I try not to let it get to me, but some days it does. When is it my turn to receive?

I have memory problems, like major ones, cognitive glitches, and word recall issues.  I have a documented medical cause for this (more than one, actually).  Classes where I have to quickly memorize a TON of terms and information and locations of things are extremely difficult for me, no matter how much I study.  The Accessibility people tried to get accommodations for me that included a small index card with just the terms/words I thought I was likely to blank on, but the only one they were able to get for me is a little extra time.  My professor thinks that a small index card with just problematic terms on one side would be like cheating and give me an unfair advantage over the other students.  What he doesn't realize is that THEY have an unfair advantage over ME- they are much younger, healthier, and more neurotypical.  Their memories work properly.  Mine doesn't.  I have to study at least 3x as much as the others to remember stuff, and that takes a lot of time, and I have other demanding classes and responsibilities.  How do you get a professor to understand all this, though, and see that the testing is not equitable?

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He was a remarkable and impressive individual, and fought for much needed change and an equitable world. We have made progress toward his dream of a more equal world and one without racism, but unfortunately we have not fully realized his dream. We all need to strive for a future where there is no discrimination or hate based on skin color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, and any other traits or characteristics that make us diverse and unique.
