Grocers, department stores, etc., are forbidden in these places, and public transportation doesn’t serve them; they are completely car-dependent. There is often a gas station with a convenience store just outside the neighborhood, but the closest supermarket is generally a mile or more away in an upscale strip mall. (The idea is to be completely isolated from “the poors” or any other outsiders who might frequent any local businesses.)

This is an image of a development that is roughly similar, as seen from the air. Lots and lots and lots of houses in rows, all alike, somewhat mazelike. This is, by the way, in Florida.

You know. The one that has to evacuate regularly. Because of hurricanes.

The one where the deranged governor is disinclined to issue hurricane warnings in good time because the Republicans hate the National Weather Service because if people know about weather they might believe in global warming.
