about
It was your sisters who were powerful at first, and you envied them for it. You never had any magic of your own, but you made sure to force your way into their community, learning everything you could about the occult. You went to university for history, your masters on the Middle Ages, and eventually a doctorate in the occult, but you tell everyone it’s simply history. It was no mistake that you found your way onto the staff at Dumfries, but it was a mistake that you fell in love with the assistant head of Wardlaw. Agathe-Marie was everything you wanted, until then neither of you wanted anything to do with each other. The fire might bring you close together once more.
Requiem is a character of color and should be cast accordingly.
connections
ANATHEMA: They’re your point of contact at Wardlaw, but when you first reached out for help, they didn’t seem to know who you were at all. People tend to gawk at men in the magical community, but you think they might be a good ally to have, even if there’s a few details that feel like red flags.
ZOYA: Your ability to detect magic is vast, possibly more in-tune than anyone else in the school. You could tell when Yorick awoke that it was no accident, and you could smell the necromancy from a mile away. But Zoya didn’t do it for selfish reasons, so you’re hesitant to report her.
CRESCENDO: You’ve known about their magic since day one, even before you saw one of their paintings. If Crescendo can be born with magic, why can’t you? It’s something you’ve always wondered, so you observe them instead.
the cards
UPRIGHT: You reconcile with Agathe-Marie, but you don’t return to the way it once was. Too much has changed between you. Instead, you focus on rebuilding Dumfries and your student body with it. You’ve been so focused on yourself and your wishes that you haven’t been able to see who needs help right under your nose.
REVERSED: The sour feeling between you and Agathe-Marie taints the air at Wardlaw and has disastrous consequences for your students. You dive into your studies and continue to search for a way to access powers you don’t even have, your feelings projecting over Crescendo’s struggles. Crescendo is the answer, you know it in your soul, but you cannot fathom why until they break.

about
You have always seen the world through eyes that are not your own. Everything fits together so well when you look at it, the colours so smooth. You took up painting when you were younger because the colours called to you, whispering to be made into something new, something only you know. You parents didn’t suspect a thing, not when your pictures whispered in the night, and not when the photos you took came to life. You paint on in blissful ignorance, unaware of how their eyes blink and their limbs move.
connections
LUNAR: You’re jazzed about the magic thing, but you’re as dumb as a brick when it comes to figuring it out. They take pity on you one day, and you find them to be easy company, even if they’re not entirely an optimist.
PRESLEY: You don’t like the idea of having a former friend walking around, especially when so much bad blood was left between you. Dumfries is a small school and you can’t help but see them around every corner.
REQUIEM: You were like their pet of sorts. Of course they saw the magic in you that you couldn’t even comprehend, but they hid it for you. They’re waiting for the most opportune moment to use it, almost like a weapon
the cards
UPRIGHT: Lunar sees your paintings one day and asks you who enchanted them for you, leading to your realization that it isn’t all a trick of the mind. You begin classes, just like Veritas, and develop your powers for the better, but you year for the simplicity of painting and letting your magic flow through you that way.
REVERSED: Requiem lies in wait as your powers began to roil underneath your skin in close proximity to so many witches, and one day you burst open. Your magic is no longer benign, no longer beautiful pictures on a wall. Your magic is now dangerous and it will destroy you.

about
You weren’t fashioned for Dumfries. You knew this perhaps younger than you realised, raised surrounded by the type that were: competitive and steadfast, loud and always tripping over each other to reach some fabricated finis line. Even as a child you held little interest in their indecorous games, felt no compulsion to be the best among these largely identical boys. You were content with your piano, and the soft notes you alone knew how to pry from the old beauty; the way it calmed your unsteady heart. But Dumfries came, anyway, and you make no effort to pretend, carve yourself into something you aren’t. They shun you for it, but you’ve always felt better facing ridicule than obscurity.
Rachmaninov is a character of colour and should be cast accordingly.
connections
GRECCO: They found you in the rec room, shrouded in darkness, fingers dusting over ivory and basswood. The music you made together was strange, and somehow dulcet. They don’t speak to you in daylight, but you think you almost like it better that way.
ZOYA: If you’ve ever wondered why they spend so much time with the Dumfries boys, you’ve kept it to yourself. You don’t want to ruin whatever is blossoming between you. It isn’t friendship, you’re not good at those anymore, but it feels like something close.
FRACTAL: You think the two of you were born friends, can’t even remember a life before them. You used to know them better than you knew yourself, you think, but something fundamental in Fractal changed. You see them and think, unhinged.
the cards
UPRIGHT: You leave the shackles of your past behind, no longer determined to live your life by others’ rules. The symphonies in you blossom. It’s not quite magic, not really, but you think it feels like something close, and that is more than anything.
REVERSED: Dumfries passes, but you have nothing to show for it. For reasons you can’t comprehend, the music dies on your fingertips. So long you prided yourself on not needing anyone, but never have you contemplated the prospect of being truly alone.
