Meter
Christopher OâMahony
Found objects (antique piano keys, vintage timepiece components, oak stool seat top).
In Meter, artist Christopher OâMahony explores the intersection of chronological time and sound duration. Constructed from the physical remnants of a music schoolâincluding worn piano keys and time piece components mounted on a deeply worn oak music stool seat-top, the piece serves as a tactile record of countless hours of practice and performance. By integrating timepiece components, OâMahony suggests that while the physical tools of music-making inevitably succumb to the "meter" of age, the notes themselves remain eternal, traveling through time and space long after the hands that played them have moved on.
