It was your sisters who were powerful at first, and you envied them for it. You never had any magic of your own, but you made sure to force your way into their community, learning everything you could about the occult. You went to university for history, your masters on the Middle Ages, and eventually a doctorate in the occult, but you tell everyone it’s simply history. It was no mistake that you found your way onto the staff at Dumfries, but it was a mistake that you fell in love with the assistant head of Wardlaw. Agathe-Marie was everything you wanted, until then neither of you wanted anything to do with each other. The fire might bring you close together once more.

ANATHEMA: They’re your point of contact at Wardlaw, but when you first reached out for help, they didn’t seem to know who you were at all. People tend to gawk at men in the magical community, but you think they might be a good ally to have, even if there’s a few details that feel like red flags.

ZOYA: Your ability to detect magic is vast, possibly more in-tune than anyone else in the school. You could tell when Yorick awoke that it was no accident, and you could smell the necromancy from a mile away. But Zoya didn’t do it for selfish reasons, so you’re hesitant to report her.

CRESCENDO: You’ve known about their magic since day one, even before you saw one of their paintings. If Crescendo can be born with magic, why can’t you? It’s something you’ve always wondered, so you observe them instead.

UPRIGHT: You reconcile with Agathe-Marie, but you don’t return to the way it once was. Too much has changed between you. Instead, you focus on rebuilding Dumfries and your student body with it. You’ve been so focused on yourself and your wishes that you haven’t been able to see who needs help right under your nose.

REVERSED: The sour feeling between you and Agathe-Marie taints the air at Wardlaw and has disastrous consequences for your students. You dive into your studies and continue to search for a way to access powers you don’t even have, your feelings projecting over Crescendo’s struggles. Crescendo is the answer, you know it in your soul, but you cannot fathom why until they break.

Dumfries has always been part blessing and part curse. They welcomed you for your family’s history, but you’ve only ever had half your heart in it. You don’t belong among these boys, and it is so horribly, glaringly obvious as you stand before them: wild eyes and scarred knuckles, crude words and quick temper. They know nothing of hardship, and you too much of it. Your mother a ghost, your father half-mad, you were raised by distant family and the chill of winter that soaked into your bones. Easy enough to blame for who you’ve become, but even still you catch yourself wondering, is this all you’re meant to be?

GRECCO: You’re not sure what Grecco is looking for, and doubt they really know either, but you don’t refuse them. You understand, perhaps better than most, what it is to have the weight of expectations dragging you in every direction.

SUNS: The closest thing you have to a friend. You don’t pretend to understand them in every respect, nor they you, but they respect you. And after enough years you’ve decided that’s enough to forge something out of.

MAIDEN: You hear the whispers, even if you don’t believe them. A striking similarity. Conjecture has never done you any good, and so you let them slide off your back. But even still, you feel the familiarity, as if you knew them in a dream.

UPRIGHT: You learn the truth of your connection with Maiden, and together forge a new path away from the weights of Wardlaw and Dumfries. Your magic comes, at first only in spurts, but with Maiden at your side you learn to harness your true potential.

REVERSED: You find yourself doing the unthinkable. Dumfries shuns you, Wardlaw with it, and once again you’re alone. Perhaps you were always meant to be. Your magic still comes, but without instruction you becomes something volatile, and fit to burst.

You were always wise beyond your years, and it exhausted you. Academia was the only place where you thrived, albeit in isolation. Idealistic young people don’t come around very often, but you kept your head down and focused on your studies. When you lifted you head up, you were the youngest vice principal in Dumfries history. It’s something you’re nervous about, an imposter of sorts, but you push that to the side to deal with this new challenge. Wardlaw holds the reins in this instance and the meagre power you’d amassed is slipping.

JEZEBEL: You didn’t mean to let passion consume you, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t. They’re pretty enough, nice enough, but they confound you endlessly. You’ll spend the rest of your life trying to figure them out, even if it kills you.

LANGSTON: Your studies were adjacent, even if they’re younger than you, but you’ve always had respect for them. There’s few people you can count as your friend, but Langston is one of them.

BRUISE: After the fire, everyone wanted to point fingers. Bruise was the unfortunate soul that all of the fingers ended up facing. In an attempt to save your job, you pointed with them. Now you’re involved in a cover-up, and a hunt for the truth.

UPRIGHT: You find the true person who started the fire and exonerate Bruise, taking any hit that comes at you for condemning them before the investigation was fully launched. You feel lighter somehow, especially as you lead Dumfries in rebuilding their lives.

REVERSED: Bruise is expelled and you were the one who held the axe over their neck. You relationship with Jezebel is revealed and in the split-second between having a scandalous secret and a shameful one, you realize you have feeling for them. Unfortunately, they don’t feel the same way about you.
