more of my Dispatch character ദ്ദി(ᵔᗜᵔ)
The humanity of the characters in Dispatch!: The beauty of reality, or almost like it.
Dispatch is a BEAUTIFUL game! And not only visually but it's story is deep and it has details that make it more real, maybe if they didn't add this details - and flaws - the game wouldn't be SO good as it is! Let me explain:
Usually when we were kids, we had an certain vision about heroes, the main characters were usually (not talking abt antiheroes ok) the good guys, the saviors, the PERFECT SUPER-HUMANS (keep that phrase in mind) that made all the good they made because it was their fate, their responsability or because 'it was the right thing to do' am I right?
That's the first conception of 'hero' that Dispatch broke, first of all, the main character, Robert Robertson III, begins his story being Mecha Man already, there was no path for him to become a hero, unlike what we often see in movies, which are a journey of how the hero became a hero.
Later in the story we find out Robert is now broke, depressed and basically HATED by everyone because he failed to carry on his family's legacy and now is retiring, and the worst of all: it didn't have a solution, because his suit was broken and... NO POWERS. But the absence of powers never stopped anyone from being a hero!. (I don't know where I've heard this but there was a quote that said 'not being a superhuman doesn't mean you can't be super')
As the events pass we see that... OUR CHARACTER IS A LOSER! (No offense Robert i love you!) But that is what it is, someone fragile, with no use to society, and broke, how are we supposed to believe that a person like that would return being a hero.
And another thing I've realized: his story wasn't pretty, it wasn't fun, it wasn't his choice, it was almost like a burden, being Mecha Man to carry his father's and grandpa's legacy, it was his fate since he was born. It's harsh. It's painful.
But, after all that Robert has a glimpse of hope when Blonde Blazer appears to him.
Remember when I said about heroes being perfect super humans and having a sense of justice? Well, In Dispatch this concept is broken by simply adding a new scenario, were they have in this universe a company called SDN (Superhero Dispatch Network).
But, there was a difference: this company made up a new program, called as we know "Phoenix program", That's all about reintroducing former villains back into society by DISPATCHING them into missions, simple or complex, that makes sense, because it creates a sense of care and responsibility towards the population they once used to harm. And that's good, BUT here's the point... the villains are not SO BAD. It's almost like "don't judge the book by its cover"
When we go deeper into the game and the story, we find out that whoops! The bad guys aren't so bad! But how so?
Because they ALL have what it's stamped in the title: HUMANITY (even if most of them are not humans but YOU GET IT)
1. Invisigal: She is introduced to us as an..stalker, spy, and annoying girl, someone who anyone could see clearly that IS a villain, not because she was evil, but her actions in the beggining they accuse her of not being a very moral person.
And she admit it later in the game, saying that "her powers are villain ones, not like BB, not like Phenomaman, who didn't have nothing to hide" but for her was different, all she did was hiding, used her powers to take advantage of others. But talking with her we see CLEARLY that she's not good with it, she's embarrassed, because of all she has done, because she herself didn't belive she could be a hero, do something nice, she regretted it, so who else would believe in her? The Z-team did.
2. Malevola: I mean... LOOK AT HER, she IS the 'supervillain' profile, but, there's something I've noticed during the game and you probably did too: she is holding on.
Yes, that's what I said. Picture this: you have demonic powers, and you can smash people in one blink, but... she was NEVER shown to us as someone evil, and it breaks our perception, and i love it. She cares for her colleagues, she pays attention to details of their lives, she has humanity in her, otherwise she would just burn everything to the ground and call it a day.
3.Punch-up: A little gut that made a deal with a sorceress to gain the immense strength of ten men. This magical pact, which allowed him to transition from a struggling carnival strongman into a powerful fighter, came at the cost of his body shrinking. This man if he kept his height would be a MENACE! That's his "thing", did you notice a pattern yet?: someone who everyone thinks is A, actually is a B, understand? That's the whole dynamic of the characters. They have everything to be evil, but... they're not. And in the case of the punch-up, this becomes clear; it's almost like a equal proportion scale, something incredibly strong being compared to a flaw (or something good) but extremely weak. That will make sense, believe me.
4. Flambae: My favorite character, he is SO funny! Like... he actually is a wall king fireball jerk, but why do we like him so much?
Because, it's.the.same.thing.that.happens.to.the.other.characters.in.this.game.!!!
Remember the directly proportional proportion scale? The amount of potential for evil that someone has will be directly proportional to... in Flambae's case, it's "cornyness". He is charismatic, being a jerk? Yes! That's the kind of character we see and ask "What's the deal with him?" And we are so invested that he might have an "redemption arc" that we simply like him, and later in the game, when he finds out Robert is Mecha Man, he gets mad- obviously, but he just leaves... and later he SHOWS UP in Robert's place, and is willing to deal with the fact that he can't change who Bob is, but he will "someday dissipate his hatred towards bob. And you will be less of a bitch for me" and that contrasts with the whole character, it shows that behind that narcissism and hate he is - even if a little bit- mature.
These were the analyses of the most "contrasting" characters that I could find. The others are just the same dynamic as those listed.
For Sonar for example would be: he is a WEIRD BAT but, somehow... he is SO NORMAL that it's hilarious!!!
For golem: he is seen as an abnormality, a monster, but he's just a tennager, he feels lonely.
For prism: i couldn't figure anything out, pls help me if you're into it.
For coupè: same as Prism.
I'm glad you've read this far! What did you think? Do you agree with the analysis or meh? Let me know. ♡

Me doing this trend with all my current dispatch OCs except one of them is way too tall for this and punch up has the silhouette of a child in the corner and I also accidentally put the wrong name for one of them

Fashion emergency! Some rich prick needs some super help with their wardrobe? Man, subscribers really like to use SDN to the fullest. Certainly the most well dressed of our heroes can help.
(this took a while to get out, sorry about that)
