Angelica Catalani (1780-1849) was a legendary soprano. In 1797 she made her debut in Venice and then she sung in Florence and Milan as well as Rome and Naples. This engraving shows the singer making his evening debut at the Royal Theater in London in her favorite role in as Semiramide in the opera
“La morte di Semiramide” by Portogallos, 1806. In 1814 she was also director of the Théâtre-Italien in Paris. All the great Personalities of their time revered them. In 1820 she gave ten-year-old Fréderic Chopin a gold pocket watch with a dedication, why she was so impressed from his talent. She donated large sums of her fee to the poor. An exciting life story.

Toscanini mourned Catalani's untimely death his entire life said the Maestro at rehearsal, such a talented composer... It IS incredible music!!! TOITOITOI to all my amazing colleagues!! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Je suis dans le journal à nouveau, génial !! Merci à Len Lear, le roi des journalistes !! C'est parti pour Loreley, de A à Z, pas joué aux US en entier depuis un siècle (littéralement !!)
