He’s gonna have to spend those two years in hiding while recovering so the WG doesn’t try and finish the job. Not to mention all the motor skills he’s gonna have to relearn.

This thinking is probably not new to Fandom in general, but I am always a few years-to-decades late to the party. The only saving grace here is that One Piece has been ongoing for so long and is still relevant. So, I'm just going to say it.

What if ALL devil fruits are powered by imagination, not just Luffy's and Bonnies? Yes, there are limits and some are more powerful than the others. But what if if you could imagine a way to loophole around the limit, you could surpass/expand it. And the problem is that most DF users go by the fruit "manual" and not even try, or have no capacity to think outside the box and let go of imposed/perceived boundaries.

Anyway, this is all probably just a load of something, but I would like to think that if DF are a manifestation of people's desires, each user should be able to adapt the use of their fruit to themselves, and use it in their own way.

I hit a bit of a hitch on it today while rewatching Law trying to save wounded Corazon. If Devil Fruit power is only limited by imagination, why wasn't Law able to save Cora? But the devil is in the details. (See what I did there? Haha). Simply wishing for it to work is not enough. You have to envision how that would work and believe it too. Even though a big chunk of Law's personality is basically trauma response at this point, it is not devoid of his true core self. Law is very practical and rule oriented individual. Yeah, he might be on a rebellious streak, yet in his mind all things follow a set of rules.

Luffy, on the other hand is all whimsy. Rules, what rules? He will do what he wants and won't even think if it is possible. Not even later. His response to "How did you do it?" would be "I didn't know it was impossible". There's not a serious bone in his body, and even if there was one it went out with gear 5.
