Jokes aside, the concept of a heavily-advertised “hot (demographic) in your area” queer dating site -in today’s political climate where being openly queer is dangerous- feels like a trap. Like an anglerfish luring in the unknowing and vulnerable with glistening rainbow light.
I don’t trust that it isn’t back-ended by some nefarious shit- especially if they’re managing to pay for ads to promote it. Same with that anti-depression chatbot ad I saw a few weeks back, and the “color-by-numbers solves depression/insomnia/amnesia” ad that wove its way between the torrent of tanned pectorals that tumblr is convinced I want to see (I don’t).
It’s textbook manipulation- targeting a weak point in the armor. No big company is your friend. Every single one is either out for your money or your blood. A good chunk want both at once.
