i can say for brl specifically that it will get finished. i'm pretty close to done with drafting chapter 17 rn, and i have every intention of finishing this fic. i am just a very busy person so writing and editing time is often few and far between. but it will get done! i think about this story Constantly.

i can also say that reading wips is one of fandom’s greatest joys. i know everyone and their mother has fallen in love with a wip fic only to realize that it had been abandoned eight years ago and the author has completely disappeared off the face of the earth. it happens! and it aches, to love a story so completely and never get the resolution you so desperately crave. sometimes the author comes back and finishes it ten years later. sometimes they don't. but i think it is still so worth it to have read that story, even in its unfinished state. i'd never want to go back and un-read something that left me wanting more, even if that want was tremendous. i loved that story, as it was presented to me, and i'll keep that love forever whether i get to read more of it later or not. and that's only for abandoned works! a wip is called that because it is still in progress, meaning that the author still wants to write and finish that piece! one of the greatest motivators for writing is knowing that there are People Out There who want to read your stuff and share in that joy of creation. encouraging comments and comments that engage with the text go a long way. and i cannot even begin to tell you what a joy it is on the READER'S side to follow an unfinished work. i have made so many friends just by going apeshit in the comment box in every chapter of a wip i really liked. and then in the author's dms, or in their notes or replies, and oftentimes i've unlocked Super Special Secret Privilege to read new chapter snippets or soundboard or brainstorm or even get the chapter before everyone else to beta read, not to mention all the other loveliness that comes with befriending ur fav fic authors. pet pics, life updates, rants about annoying fandom shit, snail mail, invitations to hang out when ur in the same city. genuine human connection, in the form of discord dms and porn gifs and links to wip docs. it's awesome.
