multiple people have now said they were MOST immersed in the chapter 13-14 sequence that i ripped out and rewrote whole cloth and agonized over for months. the lesson i choose to take from this is that i should Always follow my heart when i want to rip the guts out of a major chunk of book

I joke but man I’ve ripped the guts out of this manuscript a few times already. The original ch13 got completely annihilated yeah but also I straight up deleted almost 8k of a final chapter in favour of the current epilogue structure and I think it’s WAY cleaner, it’s paced better, AND it works better thematically. I’m saying all this for my own benefit bc I can get really in my head about. Spending all this time polishing a novel while knowing that IF!!!! I can get it an agent and the agent can sell it to a publisher, it’s going to go through more dev editing bc that’s how the business works. and like yeah that’s still true BUT i have already done a bunch of that work myself. and it made the book better. ramble ramble ramble point is none of the work is superfluous it’s totally worth polishing to a high shine EVEN IF I have to rip into it again later it’s gonna be okay
