Mum bought herself a takeaway bowl of Braised Duck Porridge (卤鸭粥) or congee from her morning trip to the market. It only comes with braised duck meat and peanuts plus the braising gravy to go with the congee.
Here is what mum gotten for my box of Economy Rice (菜饭). Knowing that I like the rendang mutton and the fried chicken drumstick 🍗, she will include these two dishes in the order. The other item she picked for me is this ngoh hiang rolls (五香卷) to go with the steamed rice.

Bought the takeaway Braised Duck Rice (卤鸭饭) set from Yew Kee Specialities (友记家传鸭饭). Inside the paper box are boneless duck meat, half an egg, bean curds, braised peanuts and sambal chilli paste over braised rice.
Mum’s bowl of Braised Duck Porridge (卤鸭粥) also has the same boneless duck meat plus extra, braised egg and bean curds but comes with a ladle of the braised gravy over the soft and silky congee.
Mum bought Braised Duck Rice (卤鸭饭)from Chong Pang Food Centre. A deboned braised duck drumstick 🍗 sits over the braised rice. She also got me braised bean curd and egg 🥚 to go with the rice. A couple of cucumber slices and the spicy sambal chilli 🌶 paste completed the meal.
For herself, mum got the Braised Duck Porridge (卤鸭粥) or congee. Rice is boiled in plenty of water until it softens, creating a thick, creamy consistency. To impart flavours to the plain congee, the dark, rich and mellow braising gravy is added along with deboned duck meat and braised peanuts. 🥜
Packed in waxed paper wrapper is my brunch of Braised Duck Rice (卤鸭饭) from Chong Pang. She also asked for one Braised Egg and Bean Curd to go with the braised rice. Braised peanuts and cucumber slices are complimentary plus there is a scoop of sambal chilli paste to give the rice a spicy kick.
Dinner an assortment of braised chicken, duck and pig dishes. This Braised Duck Rice (卤鸭饭) came with not only braised duck but also braised egg, peanuts and pig’s big intestine over braised savoury rice. To go with the dishes, a scoop of umami sambal chilli paste to give it a spicy kick.

Late breakfast came packed from the coffee shop near to our house. Mum had the Braised Duck Porridge (卤鸭粥) with braised peanuts, extra duck meat and no skin. The plain congee had a ladle of the dark fragrant braising sauce added to give it flavours.
My Economy Rice (菜饭) box had a large braised pork belly taking up half the space with stewed eggplant (aubergine / brinjal) and sweet & sour pork taking up the rest of the box.
Breakfast came from the nearby coffee shop a couple of blocks down the street. Mum bought herself the Braised Duck Porridge (卤鸭粥) with extra duck meat and no skin. She gotten me the Vegetarian Rice (斋饭) takeaway with curry mock mutton & potato, Chinese mustard greens stir-fry (芥菜) and savoury imitation pork slices.
Bought from the coffee shop further down the road are my Braised Duck Rice (卤鸭饭) with deboned duck drumstick, roasted pork, braised peanuts and braised rice plus cucumber and sambal chilli paste. Mum had the Braised Duck Porridge (卤鸭粥) or congee with extra deskinned duck meat and braised peanuts.
PS - Mum favourite braised duck porridge stall had since closed. Now, got to travel all the way to Chong Pang to buy it.
