Breakfast at Jurong East hawker
Queued up at the famous Fei Fei stall. Although the stall only starts serving customers at 9:00 a.m., the queue had already formed long before opening. Within minutes, the line stretched like a snake, showing just how popular this place is. The wait was definitely part of the experience!😄😅

For dinner, I bought a pack of Roasted Chicken Rice 🐓🍚 (烧鸡饭) from the nearby coffee shop. Asked for chicken drumstick 🍗 which the seller deboned and requested to add Roasted Pork 🐖 (烧肉). The savoury rice is cooked with chicken fat, ginger 🫚 and pandan leaves 🌿 with sliced cucumber 🥒 for garnish.
[Then you get inside, the roasted pork, little bit of salt, little bit of sugar, every bite is just luxurious.]

For the Pork:
3-4 lb pork loin roast (boneless)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Herb Rub:
2 tablespoons fresh rosemary (chopped) or 1 tablespoon dried
2 tablespoons fresh thyme (chopped) or 1 tablespoon dried
3 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
For the Pan:
1 large onion (sliced)
2 carrots (chopped)
2 celery stalks (chopped)
1/2 cup chicken broth or white wine
Optional Glaze:
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon soy sauce

I cannot remember who gotten this box of crackling Roasted Pork (烧肉) for dinner. Just looking at the closeup pictures, I am already salivating. In fact, mum had already stolen a few pieces of it even before my camera had a chance to “eat” it.
On my plate, there are slices of Taiwan Sausage (台湾香肠). Unlike Chinese sausages, it is juicer, sweeter and meatier with a crispy skin. They also have a shorter drying process, so they are not as dehydrated nor chewy as the former. Beside the roasted pork, mum had also cooked Asparagus & Prawn Stir-Fry.
Ever since Giant hypermarket closed its Sembawang Shopping Centre’s branch in July 2024, the foot traffic to the mall had fallen tremendously. Rumours have been flying around that NTUC is going to take up the space left vacant by the former. It did open a temporary Chinese New Year pop-up store earlier this year, only for it to close again. The space remains boarded up until May this year when it was announced that FairPrice Finest and Kopitiam Food Hall would be opening on 22 May 2025. Brought mum to the roasted meats store manned by Guan Chee Roasted Delights as both my colleague and sis had mentioned that the food is good.
Ordered the Combo Meal 3 (三宝饭) at S$11.80 which came with roasted pork, char siu and roasted duck. The skin of the roasted pork was crispy and the char siu succulent. The duck however was just decent enough, definitely not one of the better tasting ones. And before I forget, the sambal chilli paste was so good, packed with holy trinity of aromatics and umami flavours plus not too spicy. The S$16 Roasted Suckling Pig 🐖 (烤乳猪) aren’t cheap but those thinly chopped up piglet sure had extra crunchy and crispy skin to boot. It is accompanied with a sweet plum sauce that left a delicate sweet aftertaste. Overall, while I found them quite nice, but mum gave it a thumbs down. 😅
Come evening, I headed over to the coffee shop across the street to buy takeaway Roasted Chicken Rice (烧鸡饭) for mum. She requested for chicken drumstick and a portion of roasted pork to go with the savoury rice.
As for myself, I went with Economy Rice (菜饭), choosing a selection of curry cabbage, savoury and crunchy ikan bilis (dried anchovies deep-fried) & peanuts plus a piece of sweet & sour pork chop with rice.
