I've been thinking about untranslatable words and I would like to introduce you to the Welsh word braf.
So the dictionaries give various definitions like agreeable or fine or lovely, which is all fine (but not braf). Here are some examples of why translating this word is tricky:
Mae hi'n braf heddiw. She is braf today = the weather is nice/fine today.
Braf siarad efo chdi. Braf speaking with you = it was nice to talk to you.
Braf siarad efo chi. Braf speaking with you (formal/plural) = it was agreeable to speak with you (formal)/it was nice talking to you (plural). Admittedly the difference is mostly just a cultural thing. You're probably trying to ingratiate yourself if you use the 'chi' here.
Mi oedd hi'n braf mynd allan. She was nice to go out = it was a lovely relief to go out.
What I'm getting at is that there's not really any one word that you can use as an equivalent in English. Something that's braf is something that induces the feeling of being outside in good (which is to say, sunnyish and dryish and warmish - we're talking about Wales here) weather. Or the feeling of having spoken to good friends. Or the feeling of relief of going outside (especially after lockdown etc.).
Braf are the things that induce that feeling of safety, of relief. It's respite, and contentment.
