Working a day camp this summer. Today one of my kids was up against me and asked if I had a baby in my tummy.
Fuck.
I’m on my period, but still… I don’t look too different than when I’m not on it.

I’m not toned and trim, I don’t have a smooth hairless body, I‘m not in love with my skin color, but I wore a bikini in Puerto Rico last week on the beach and celebrated life. My chaffed thighs and bikini bumps and cellulite saw the sun and I ate meat on a stick and drank fancy cocktails without worrying about calories or what other people thought. If any of this makes you cringe, thinking “Good for you, but no way could I possibly…” here’s the secret —it’s HARD and it takes a lot of WORK. Not hard work to “not care” or to manipulate my body into a configuration “I can deal with”, it takes a lot of hard work looking at myself and accepting myself and retraining my brain. What I have learned can be applied to anyone anywhere who has the courage to face and embrace themselves. Stop sidelining yourself. Stop missing out. Stop limiting yourself. It’s a mindset makeover, that’s what I’ve created with Fashion Therapy and it’s freeing and transformational AND I’m gearing up to give everyone a taste of it for free with my upcoming Shine and Rise Style Confidence Challenge! LET’S 👏🏻 TALK 👏🏻 ABOUT 👏🏻 WEIGH-INS! 👏🏻 • When I weighed in daily, I used to focus only on my weight fluctuating up. • I convinced myself that my weight went up because I did something wrong—not drinking enough water, eating too much salt, eating too late in the day, eating the wrong thing—the list went on and on. • I was terrified of the scale, terrified that today I might be heavier than yesterday. • Getting out of this mindset can be tricky; one thing that has really helped me has been to look at the BIG PICTURE rather than each tiny fluctuation! • If you ever find yourself getting caught in the minutiae of fluctuating bodyweight, take a step back and look at your progress from day one to now—and you’ll see that you’re on the right track! • #weightloss #bodypositivity #selflove #bodyconscious #positivementalattitude #mindset (at Portsmouth, New Hampshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/B04tGiBHKXD/?igshid=jjvaq35unbl5
The girl in this picture from one year ago was uncomfortable in her skin... she wore fake lashes because she was self conscious when hers were falling out, she wore spanx because of the size of her bum, she was retaining so much extra water that she was 30 lbs heavier (from fluid)... this girl is no longer afraid to say that sometimes I hate that my hair and lashes fall out and I supplement. I dislike the fluid gain that made me extra uncomfortable and I most certainly have a goal to embrace this body - scars and all... sometimes with a few added features to help a girl out... don’t judge if you don’t know
P.S. fun dressing 👗🥿up with fancy cars - makeup 💄 by @dior professional stylist cannot remember her name (she was a rep from headquarters & awesome)

Positively Self Conscious
“I need to be more self-conscious” said no one, ever. But being conscious is nothing more than being aware. And I find that being more aware of who you are is a strong suit. Why is being self conscious a term used with negative connotation. I don’t believe that it should.
Growing up I was always labeled as self-conscious before I even knew what the phrase meant. I was short and chubby and I was made very aware that I was short and chubby. From grandparents pinching my cheeks to school kids giving me nicknames, everyone around me made sure I knew that I was overweight. In turn, my awareness was made into something very negative. Even as an adult I feel the burn of judgement.
I‘m sure it goes the same for most. You live your whole life with people telling you about yourself. Friends, family, strangers on the street, magazines and social media. They all tell me who I am or who I should be before I have a chance to decide on my own.
The worst of it is my own added pressure. Because of the outside world, I tend to be even harder on myself. I compare and contrast myself to others all the time without even realizing I’m doing it.
So stop!!!
Stop it all. Don’t give in the the pressures of society but most importantly don’t take it personally. The only way to cease this way of living starts with me. Stop comparing. Stop judging others. Stop being who everyone else wants me to be.
Be aware but only be aware. Be conscious but only be conscious. Change the things I want to change but only when I want to change them.
Being conscious of my self and conscious of my body can be a positive awareness. I am prepared to be comfortable in my own skin because this is the only skin I will live in. I don’t get a choice. But, like most change, it doesn’t happen overnight so I am in for the long haul. Remember! I have a lifetime. And Note: This is not only a personal lifestyle change but it is also a change advocating for change in the world around me.
