I swear sometimes I feel like going to the Steven Universe subreddit is turning into a method of self harm.Ā
This morning I got screamed at and blocked and mocked as tl;dr for explaining to someone for the fortieth time why Stevenās reintegration inĀ āChange Your Mindā was not in fact a nice metaphor for being able to finally hug his mother. (Lessons learned not to argue with people namedĀ āpoprocksinmyassā I guess?)
Only to now run into a weird person who isĀ ālmfao-ingā at the very concept that peopleĀ āthinkā Rose and Pearl were in a relationship. They laughed at a person suggesting this was true,Ā ācorrectedā them to say Pearl just learned to be free and more herself through Rose and therefore cared about her a lot, and rolled their eyes about how many peopleĀ āmisinterpretedā Rose and Pearlās relationship by drawing romantic fanart. Iām ??????
Looking in the personās post history they also apparently usedĀ ātheyā pronouns for Garnet becauseĀ āSapphire is a boy and Ruby is a girl,ā and therefore Garnet is a they. I guess if you ignore a) Garnetās consistentĀ āsheā pronouns throughout the show; b) Sapphire and Ruby both beingĀ āsheā Gems and they are NOT a boy and a girl; and c) that this is one of the queerest shows on TV and you have to reaaaaaaach to see straight people here . . . then yeah sure that makes so much sense.
Iām taking psychic damage going there and I think I need a break.
The media has been incredibly irresponsible with how they reported about Demi Lovato using she/her pronouns. She decided to start using them again IN ADDITION to still using they/them as well. They are still non-binary and still queer. And guess what? Even if someday they decide they are not non-binary, they are allowed to explore their identity and find what definition works best for them. Anyone claiming sheās aĀ āqueer touristā is being anti-queer. I was actually surprised when she publicly came out as queer because I thought sheād come out years ago lol.Ā I firmly believe people trying to minimize her queerness are just doing it because they donāt like her. Celebrities that you donāt like for personal reasons are still queer if they say theyāre queer š¤·š»āāļø
I swear to God the people complaining that Pennywise, the murderous child eating clown from another dimension, is "anti-queer" are bigger clowns than pennywise could ever be.
stop calling the lgbt community the queer community!
itās EXTREMELY disrespectful !!!!!!
1) queer is not a slur that is as common anymore and the lgbt people who struggled with it the most are typically older than this ugly tumblr generation!
so as a result: they have actual trauma and triggers around the word. donāt force them to be a slur bc you uwu want to.
2) itās disrespectful to all of the lgbt people who died in the aids crisis! they died being called queer! we canāt just call them queer because we feel like it. especially when we say things like āqueer history.ā
3) a lot of lesbians donāt identify as queer! actually most of us donāt! queer is a vague word. it can mean youāre fluid in your sexuality or your gender. it can mean youāre 100% gay or that you 10% gay.
that being said it implies that lesbiansā sexuality is fluid or it can be fluid! which it isnāt!!! so donāt call us queer unless an individual lesbian asks to be called that.
also the word lesbian is always scooted around bc itās considered dirty and itās just a way for you guys to be lazy and not call us by our name just like everyone else on this fucking planet!
4) literally lots of people have trauma from the word and donāt want to reclaim it! just bc you want to reclaim doesnāt mean literally anyone else wants to!
5) itās literally not the name of the lgbt community. just like plain and simple: itās not!

This survey will be discussing (specifically LGBT+) slurs, some of which some people may consider offensive, without any censorship. If you
Hi everyone! I am an undergrad linguistics major, and I'm currently taking a socioling class. For our final project, we need to do research on a community/social movement. I am LGBT and consider myself deeply intertwined with the community, and I found myself curious about a movement I have seen pop up more recently. If you have opinions about slurs, reclamation, and the usage of "the Q slur" and you would like to share them, your responses on this survey would be invaluable to me! I am especially looking for LGBT participants, but responses from people of all demographics are useful. Trigger warning for the mention of LGBT slurs without censorship.
I will not disclose my personal opinion on these topics, as that would be unbefitting of a researcher. If you know my personal opinions, please leave them off this post.
The survey should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. A majority of my participants thus far have completed it in about 10. Thanks for taking the time to share your views with me! And if you feel like it, please signal boost this post so I can get an even larger pool of responders!
Note: Please leave any and all discourse out of the notes of this post. I am very interested in your stances, but I want to see them on the survey, not here. Thanks!
i donāt know why this is so hard to get across itās like constantly saying the same thing over and over again. i feel like iāmĀ in the twilight zone
queer: it would be great if everyone stopped saying that queer is a slur every time i identify as queer anti-queer: itās really bad that youāre using queer as an umbrella term because itās a slur queer: iām not, iām saying that queer is my identity and i would like to use it without getting into an argument about it every time i self-identity anti-queer:Ā itās really bad that youāre using queer as an umbrella term because itās a slur queer: thatās not... are you... iām not using it as an umbrella term, iām queer anti-queer: Ā itās really bad that youāre using queer as an umbrella term because itās a slur
