Actions over Words. Always. A narcissist or toxic person, will always say one thing, and do another. It's part of their psyche that they manipulate, that they lie, that they gaslight. They learnt at an early age, that they can say anything that the other person wants to hear, and it will either get them out of trouble, or what they want. They will do it subconsciously, or consciously for their own ends. It's all part of the fakeness and lack of authenticity of covert narcissists. They will say you're their soulmate, their perfect fit, their heart, their mind, their soul. But then they will cheat on you. They will say that they cannot imagine their life without you. But then will flirt with other people. They will say you're a good parent and role model, but then tell their kids you're not. They will say they want to commit, but days and weeks go by, and they don't. Meanwhile they're flirting with other people. You look after them, have keys to their home, provide and support them. Then they will tell their friends they're scared of you. They say they love you. But then will collect phone numbers of strangers and wave them in front of you. The Classic Covert narcissist will use emotional manipulation to get what they want - which is you wrapped around their finger, but NOT their wedding finger. They live in an alternative reality in their own minds. So, do not hear their words.
