I am not empty

I am waiting

in a room that echoes your name

long after you’ve left it.

You pass through me in fragments

a touch,

a glance,

a half-finished moment

and I gather them like crumbs

off the floor of something that used to be whole.

It should be enough,

I tell myself.

It should be enough.

But hunger doesn’t listen to logic.

It grows in the quiet,

in the space between “hi” and goodbye,

in the hours where I become

background noise

to something brighter than me.

I am learning what it means

to starve slowly

not from absence,

but from almost.

From almost being chosen.

Almost being held long enough.

Almost mattering in the way

that fills instead of fades.

And when you turn to me, finally,

I feel it

that rush, that warmth

like rain on cracked earth.

But you never stay long enough

for anything to grow.

So I bloom in seconds

and wither in silence,

over

and over

again.

And still

I reach for you

like I am not already
