Calling all writers of LGBTQ+ original fiction
Farlands Fiction, a new small press focused on LGBTQ+ representation in science fiction and fantasy, has an open submissions call for an asexual representation anthology, with the theme of Space Ace. They are accepting science fiction short stories (1000-10000 words) that feature space or space travel, and that contain at least one asexual spectrum (e.g. asexual, aromantic, grey ace, demi-sexual, etc.) character in a prominent role.
All submissions must be entirely human-written - no artificial intelligence/LLM use allowed.
More details on payment, how to submit, and the full rules on the publisher's website.
Alastor is good ace rep
Isn't it fucking crazy that the best ace rep I've ever seen in media came in the form of a fucking deer who eats people? Because I think it's crazy.
Hi, I'm your friendly neighbourhood aroace, here for another ace Alastor yap sesh! Grab a chair, get comfy, and grab a snack, why don't you?
I know Vivzie said she is excited for Al's journey about his sexuality, because it is something he doesn't quite realise about himself yet, and I think that is beautiful. But there is something that people have pointed out, that I really thoroughly enjoy about Alastor's character.
He may be asexual, but he does not refrain from weaponising sexuality to get what he wants.
This spits in the face of the absolute heaps and I do mean heaps of works out there infantilising asexuals. I do not need to see anymore uwu baby asexual characters who are just so innocent, or feel so uncomfortable with anything sexual that they must be protected at all times.
No. Alastor is a grown ass man. Furthermore, he is a very dangerous man. Not for all the power he possesses, but for all the ways he has learned to sweet-talk himself in and out of situations. He is manipulative, observant, always two steps ahead if he can help it. And yes, he will use whatever tools he may have at his disposal to get to his end goal; even if that means flirting with the enemy.
When he is kidnapped, most characters aren't concerned for his safety, simply for the fact that Alastor has never shown himself to be in need of said concern. He is The Radio Demon, the most powerful sinner in hell, who also just so happens to experience little to no sexual attraction. This is not something that makes him burst into flames as soon as sex is mentioned in any capacity.
He may not be interested, sure, but that does not make him clueless. I'd think it an insult to his intelligence, that anyone would assume him to be, tbf. This man survived for as long as he has by being observant, cunning and sneaky.
He recoils from Vox's touch. Yep. He doesn't like being touched, that was a behaviour he exhibited throughout the series, it's not new. When he first meets Lucifer, he shakes his cane, not his hand. Does not mean he's above utilising allure to play with Vox.
This little dickhead spent an ENTIRE SEASON showing us how much he does not care what he has to do to get where he wishes to be. He doesn't care who gets hurt, so long as he comes out on top (pun intended HAH) . So yeah. Love this little cunt.
I love that he's terrible. I love that he's not interested in sex, but knows other people are, and he exploits what he sees as a weakness. I love that he is so openly uncaring about that aspect of himself. I love that this may still be a journey for him to go on as he slowly makes connections. I think we may see more interesting and very real asexual experiences from Al (like the confession scene with Vox), and I cannot wait for them.
That being said, if people want to headcanon him as demi, I don't see an issue with that! I love seeing Al get dicked down, lmao.
Toodle-oo!
i love that olric is non romanceable, i love him so much he is my best friend in the world, i don't need to date him

🖤🩶 ACE WEEK 🤍💜
QOTD: What’s your fave book with ace spectrum rep?
For this year’s ace week I’ve put together a list with books from all kinds of genres for you to choose a new read from!
Please note that with some of the series, it’s not made apparent that the character is asexual until a later book but I have only included the first books.

Ace rep and the "kiss" controversy
I always found comfort in the Aziraphale/Crowley relationship. They love each other deeply, and they don't need to kiss or hold hands for that. The only time they do kiss is disastrous and is stated, by the one who wrote it, to not be a romantic gesture but an attempt to reach out. Yet that doesn't stop them from saying stuff like "the only thing I want in the universe is you and you're the one making me complete". And that's so, so very important to me.
We're told so often that to be real, a romance needs kissing and sex. My first serious relationship fell apart because I didn't feel comfortable with sex, and my then-boyfriend told me that "a relationship is like a table and sex is one of the table legs" (quoting here). I thought I had a problem. At that time, I searched for and read a lot of fics portraying canonically ace-coded characters, especially in the Good Omens fandom (including the great ao3 fics by the ace writer IneffableDoll) and the Sherlock Holmes fandom, and it helped me feel like I wasn't abnormal.
I feel that, too often, a fictional (or non-fictional) relationship is deemed "complete" or "finally starting" when the characters do kiss. I realise (with a little bit of horror) that I'm now expecting kissing as a show of sincere love in fictional works and, like everyone here, I was expecting a kiss in the finale (with some resignation). Because that's how it's supposed to go.
So I'm so, so very glad that we didn't have one. I understand that some people can be disappointed, because we like to project our own expectations about relationships onto others. I do that too. But Aziraphale and Crowley have never, in canon, shown any inclination towards sexual matters, and that never prevented them from having a comforting, secure relationship. Not kissing in the finale doesn't mean that they're dysfunctional, or that their love isn't as legitimate.
So yeah I know it's a heated debate rn. I've never received hate on the internet so I hope today isn't the day it starts. But I wrote this because their relationship was and is so very important to me, and I do think that ace rep matters for a lot of people that are not often heard.
