Rest in Peace to Disability Rights Activist and Author Alice Wong (51,she/her)
I woke up today to find out that Alice Wong has past away as of November 14th at the age of 51. Not only was her work deeply impactful to the disabled community, but she was only just beginning to be a disabled elder - she was younger than my mother. She was brilliant, unabashed, and dreamed of an inclusive future. If you haven't yet, please go check out her books:
Her writing reshaped how I viewed my own body and mind, and encouraged my further reading on disability, community care, intersectionality and radical love. This is a devastating loss, and I wish her family and friends well as they mourn this amazing woman.

hello, and welcome once again to the first edition of disabledtober!
first off, we're very grateful for the incredibly positive response we received, with dozens of people following this blog less than a day after its creation! without all of you, this event wouldn't be coming to life as smoothly as it is <3
i am pleased to announce that the prompts form is now open! it's completely anonymous, and it has a space for any feedback you deem necessary, which you can also send in the blog's askbox :)
feel free to fill the form as many times as you please, regardless of whether you are disabled or not!! it will be open until the end of july/beginning of august, so you have time to think about what you wish to write and/or read during this challenge
[header ID] the disability pride flag, but slightly darker and with light sparkles over it [end ID]
feel free to fill in as many (or few) q
(event explanation under the cut)
moderated by @everythingwsnormalhere and @fortheloveofgrantaire, disabledtober is a full-month writing challenge focused entirely on disabilities!! whether you are disabled or not, you are welcome to join in :)
this challenge will last for the entire duration of october! the prompt list will come out at some point during the month of august, as soon as we have put it together, so you'll have the entirety of september to begin writing if you need extra time
while this event and its prompts will be focused on writing (both original stories and fanfiction), you can also fill the prompts with art, poetry, songs, and whatever your heart desires!! we encourage all kinds of creativity, so restraining people to one format would be counterproductive hah
this blog will also reblog disability-related writing and art advice, so stay tuned for that!! feel free to send any questions and suggestions into our askbox, and happy pride month<3
Is the person you’re shitting on using AI or are they just disabled?
My partner @jessequinones is autistic and has some learning disabilities that affect the way he speaks and writes, which, apparently, is making some people think the posts he’s writing are AI. I can confirm they’re not, we share an office space and I watched him write them myself. We’re also both vehemently anti-ai in general.
Look, I get it, we have to be vigilant about AI in our spaces, especially in the writing spaces, but please remember a lot of the “obvious AI writing tells” are also common in Autistic speech, and in the speech of people with learning/intellectual disabilities. AI is getting harder to spot, and a lot of these tells don’t even apply anymore, but that’s not stopping disabled people from getting accused, so please be mindful before you start claiming random people are using it.

Happy Disability Pride Month! 🌈♿🦓🦻🧑🦯🧑🦽➡️🧑🦼➡️🧏🦾
This month Haunting the Scavenger is featured in the Disability Pride Month Bundle on itch.io alongside 30+ other fantastic independent disabled horror, fantasy, and scifi authors. As someone who lives with Chronic Migraines, Ehlers–Danlos Syndromes, and Thalassemia B Intermedia my experiences inform my work and I am proud to be a disabled creative!
I feel like writing but like would y'all read a shadowvanilla one shot (maybe multi chapter fic dunno yet, if it gets attention I will) about pv using that compassionate healer rizz to be with multiple variants of shadow milk in an effort to save him??
It's February. Pearl has been falling behind on her work since the start of the year. All her continued failures weigh over her like a shadow until she feels undeserving of the slightest thing. Guilty.
Cleo tries to help, but neither really know how to fix this. It all adds up into one bad night.
Or; Pearl’s self-worth is reliant on her productivity, so what happens when she gets seasonal depression and just… can’t.
