Ace rep and the "kiss" controversy
I always found comfort in the Aziraphale/Crowley relationship. They love each other deeply, and they don't need to kiss or hold hands for that. The only time they do kiss is disastrous and is stated, by the one who wrote it, to not be a romantic gesture but an attempt to reach out. Yet that doesn't stop them from saying stuff like "the only thing I want in the universe is you and you're the one making me complete". And that's so, so very important to me.Â
We're told so often that to be real, a romance needs kissing and sex. My first serious relationship fell apart because I didn't feel comfortable with sex, and my then-boyfriend told me that "a relationship is like a table and sex is one of the table legs" (quoting here). I thought I had a problem. At that time, I searched for and read a lot of fics portraying canonically ace-coded characters, especially in the Good Omens fandom (including the great ao3 fics by the ace writer IneffableDoll) and the Sherlock Holmes fandom, and it helped me feel like I wasn't abnormal.Â
I feel that, too often, a fictional (or non-fictional) relationship is deemed "complete" or "finally starting" when the characters do kiss. I realise (with a little bit of horror) that I'm now expecting kissing as a show of sincere love in fictional works and, like everyone here, I was expecting a kiss in the finale (with some resignation). Because that's how it's supposed to go.
So I'm so, so very glad that we didn't have one. I understand that some people can be disappointed, because we like to project our own expectations about relationships onto others. I do that too. But Aziraphale and Crowley have never, in canon, shown any inclination towards sexual matters, and that never prevented them from having a comforting, secure relationship. Not kissing in the finale doesn't mean that they're dysfunctional, or that their love isn't as legitimate.
So yeah I know it's a heated debate rn. I've never received hate on the internet so I hope today isn't the day it starts. But I wrote this because their relationship was and is so very important to me, and I do think that ace rep matters for a lot of people that are not often heard.

Some things I really like in the finale
& I added few more things over there.
BURNING BOOKSHOP if you own one Hell, collect 4x the Tides rolled.
so guess what card doomed Crowley in the ineffable monopoly ah ah ah (help)
There's only so much you can hope for when the game is rigged.
Shifting priorities.
Unpopular opinion but I love the finale SO MUCH
I love that very conforting, secure relationship where Aziraphale is telling how much he loves Crowley and Crowley isn't blushing or stuttering he just KNOWS. I love how Crowley's last decision of the show parallels his first, giving free will to humanity, and it's so perfect for him. I love the angelic crossword trick, the "murder mystery" that isn't one (like I was expecting a whodunit episode and they're just like "oh ok it's Michael" it was so funny??), the way they DID erase the whole universe, which I never would've expected in a show that played it very safe in s2. That s3 episode made me feel things that I didn't feel in all of s2, and the vibe was imo so much closer to the book canon. Great finale. will watch again.

Ok but the "kiss" was perfect
One of the lowest point of Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship was that messy, non-consual kiss from s2, so it made sense to adress it in some way. But I was very afraid as to how they would do it. I do think the point is not to indulge us but to be true to the characters, and that kiss was true to them. Aziraphale and Crowley had an ace-coded relationship from the beginning. A kiss on the lips doesn't make their relationship "better" or "stronger", even if that's what's we're expecting from movies. Aziraphale and Crowley have loved each other deeply for centuries, and "we can run off together" is way more powerful than any flesh-to-flesh contact. So is growing old in a cottage together, and we don't see them kiss there either.
Of course queer people kissing in movies matter politically but I don't think Aziraphale and Crowley are the best characters for that, and ace-representation is very important too. The fact that we're expecting a kiss from two characters that have loved each other for centuries without ever kissing, and that we think that their relationship is less complete if they don't kiss, is the biggest proof of that.
About the fear of moving forward
Every 21st century piece of writing advice: Make us CARE about the character from page 1! Make us empathize with them! Make them interesting and different but still relatable and likable!
Every piece of classic literature: Hi. It's me. The bland everyman whose only purpose is to tell you this story. I have no actual personality. Here's the story of the time I encountered the worst people I ever met in my life. But first, ten pages of description about the place in which I met them.
Modern writing advice: Yes your protagonist should have flaws but ultimately we should root for them and like them from the beginning :)
Charles Dickens: Here is the worst ugliest rudest meanest nastiest bitch youâve ever met in your life.
Modern writing advice: Make sure your POV character goes through a significant arc! Make sure they are changed by the narrative! Make sure they learn a lesson!
Narrators of every book of the 19th century: the lesson I learned is these people fucking suck, sayonara you freaks
Modern writing advice: Itâs all about the character overcoming obstacles and learning! They learn their lesson so they can fix their mistakes and make good choices in the future! Itâs a character arc! Itâs called growth! Readers love it!
Everyone from ancient times through the 19th century: would you like to watch a Guy fuck up twenty times in a row
Somewhere or other, C. S. Lewis points out (and I'm paraphrasing here) that every era of writing has its own tropes and its own blind spots; its own failings and its own successes. This is why it's important to read in lots of different eras: so you can see what does and doesn't work, in the long run, and be able to make your own informed choices about how to write.
Yeah exactly! To borrow a nice quote from AndrĂŠ Maureas: "Deep down, you see, classicism and romanticism, it's all a joke; the only thing that matters is talent"
Crack AU where Crowley goes to heaven and acts as Aziraphale's assistant. This is a horrible idea and would be absolutely awful but if we ignore all the realistic implications of it, it has endless comedy potential! Have some dumb doodles
It always starts with a soft kind of âfiewwwâ. Just a little, fluttery sound.
Zachariah knows it will be his demise.
There are no therapists in Heaven but soon thereâll be such a need that some angels will have to buckle up and make it their job â maybe those from the Eden Supervision Department, itâs been a few millenia, God knows what they do all day (scratch that, She might not). So you might just say: there are no therapists in Heaven yet.
Because then the âfiewwwâ gets louder, becomes a âfiEWWWâ then a âoh hello, thereâ then a âdidnât see you there, palâ. Yeah man, fair enough, I mustâve been so hard to spot in that huge fucking empty corridor. Nothing but white walls in a five miles radius, albeit with sometimes the nice addition of Saraqael squinting menacingly from a distance.
So thatâs the point when you must turn and smile politely. âPleasure, Chief Executive Manager Crowley. How are you?â
Although by now Zachariah mostly does a 180 degrees turn on the white floor (squeaak) and blurts âhiâ. You donât want to make the moment last.
Then the man smiles at you behind those terrible, ominous black glasses. His hoverboard is wobbling, as if to notify you that he can and will come roll over you any minute. Or at least make you retreat until you disgracefully hit the wall and start crying. Zachariah knows someone did that once. Might have been him.
âSo are your tasks coming along well?â
And that is just the worst, isnât it? Cornering you alone for a random checkup, smiling like a manic, holding a clipboard. A clipboard. Chief Executive Manager Crowley invoked material matter in the sole purpose of looking intimidating.
It works.
âYes, sir.â
âFantastic. There is a meeting in a few moments.â
Of course. Of course, there is.
Gabriel was terrible. He would smile with way too many teeth visible, mightily clap you on the back for no identifiable reason, and wink at you as if you somehow shared a bond (you didnât) and he wanted to deepen it (physically painful thought, that. No-go zone).
But new boss Aziraphale wants to do things ârightâ. Asks for input or whatever. And so he holds meetings. With everyone, together. Then with everyone, individually. He wants to know what they think, what theyâd like to do, what Future they envision for Heaven and for his little planet Earth. Zachariah likes Heaven, doesnât care about Earth, and simply wants to walk around in corridors without the fear of that âfiewwwâ sound manifesting behind him. And without having to attend so many bloody meetings.
Heâs fairly certain that everyone would have started calling in sick, if Chief Executing Manager Crowley didnât bully them into attending.
Sometimes, Zachariah canât help but think Gabriel was actually not so bad.
(So @twilightcitysky asked for someone to write it so I did bc hoverboard!crowley is cracking me up)
