Chapter 18: Pre-Flower Dance
Summary: Beth hears news of the flower dance and hears all about most of the townâs plans.Â
Contains: Mentions of the canon default dancing couples and very mild character speculation
Wordcount: 1.8K
~~~
Something had changed in Pelican Town, and it took Beth an embarrassingly long time to ask about what was going on. Sheâd seen a lot of flower arrangements, half done, appear in the town square, and Haley had even said hello to Beth without any kind of comment on her appearance or stature or anything. A couple small whispers when she was in town that quickly stopped when she got close enough to hear them. It made her a tiny bit uneasy.
Chapter 11:Â Underwater A glimpse into a the world (or gym, rather) underwater.
words:Â 88194 (+6424) characters:Â yuu, ace trappola, deuce spade, jack howl, cater diamond, azul ashengrotto, jade leech notes:Â feels like itâs been too long since i last updated đ i really apologize for that! but i think iâve surpassed the biggest hurdles, so that things can keep going smoothly again. weâve got the atlantica city gym in this chapter, so hopefully that makes up for it! :â) also i did mention it in the notes, but the next couple of chapters will feature some random original characters. you can really just treat them as NPCs (like octavinelle A or heartslabyul B)! they will not be fleshed out further than their names LOL
Ah yes, the match Iâve been looking forward to. I really love how this was animated in the anime.Â
[No. 36 - Bakugou vs. Uraraka]
Katsuki asks if Ochako is âthe floaty oneâ, calling her Round-face (much to her annoyance) as he then tells her to back down now if sheâs planning on doing so, because âcrying uncle laterâ wonât cut it.Â
Up in the stands, Tenya asks Izuku what the counter-strategy heâd offered to Ochako earlier was. Izuku replies that itâs nothing special, noting how Katsuki is strong - heâs got virtually no weaknesses in close-range combat. His quirk is stronger the more mobile he is, and he can maneuver in midair. But if Ochako can get Katsuki floating, sheâll gain the advantage.Â
The match starts, Ochako immediately ducking into a low run as she charges right at her opponent. She shouts that backing down is not an option; Katsuki tenses in preparation to act.Â
Izuku notes that even an accidental touch from Ochako can send Katsuki floating, so Katsuki wants to keep his distance. And if he knows Katsuki, he wonât dodge - heâll confront her! Seeming to continue this train of thought, Ochako recalls how Katsuki usually leads with a right hook as Katsuki pulls his right arm back to swing at her. Ochako thinks of how sheâll dodge this, and-
She doesnât. Katsukiâs reaction time was just too fast for her. The crowds are also put off by the huge attack, calling it harsh and muttering about going all out against a girl. Katsuki himself doesnât care, keeping focused on the smoke of his attack. He sees movement in the corner of his eye and jabs at it, telling her to not underestimate him-
But sheâs already behind him, sans the jacket heâs attacking. Present Mic realizes what happened and announces it to the crowd - she made her jacket float and went around the side, almost ninja-like! Ochako herself is entirely focused on just getting her opponent to float-
But again, Katsuki reacts too fast for her, sending her flying and skidding along the ground. Sero and Kaminari are put out, commenting on Katsukiâs reaction speed and how smoke screens wonât work when heâs so fast. Her quirk doesnât work if she canât touch him, and it wonât matter in the end because sheâs slower than him.Â
Ochako isnât giving up, charging back in again despite how hopeless it seems. Katsuki blasts her away again, she charges back in, and it continues, all while the crowds grow increasingly unsettled. Izuku and Tenya are nervous for their friend, Jirou canât even watch the match, and Mineta comments on Katsuki being âthat type of guy.â Even Present Mic is hesitant to commentate.
The crowds continue to murmur amongst themselves - it doesnât matter how good she is at dodging, sheâs just desperate now. Momoma huffs and calls whoever said that an idiot, much to the confusion of a few of his classmates. One person in the crowd asks Cementoss whether he should stop the match, since this is getting painful.
Eventually, one hero stands up, stating that he canât watch this anymore. He points down at Katsuki, stating that that is not the way someone who wants to be a hero acts. If heâs so much stronger than her, just throw her out of the ring and finish it! Stop toying with the poor girl! Other heroes in the crowd start to take the stand with him, booing Katsuki.Â
Present Mic notices it and starts to agree, only to be cut off with a painful elbow jab to the face from Aizawa, who takes the chance to steal the mic from him. Aizawa asks the hero in question whether heâs a pro, and how many years of active duty he has. If thatâs what heâs taking away from this match, then the hero can leave. No point in watching. Go home and start looking at job-hunting sites.
Izuku and Tenya both look up at the announcement booth, surprised at their homeroom teacherâs defense, while Aizawa continues to speak. Ochako has come this far, and Katsuki knows her strength. His caution shows that he recognizes her as a worthy opponent. Itâs precisely because he wants to win so badly that thereâs no room for carelessness or holding back.Â
Katsuki judges his opponent carefully, determining that despite her exhausted state, sheâs not âdeadâ yet. Ochako wipes away some of the sweat on her face, murmuring that sheâs almost ready, before thanking Katsuki for not dropping his guard - as she puts her fingers together in the âreleaseâ signal. Katsuki is actually surprised, but Monoma is able to explain it to his classmates in the stands-
By charging in low every time, she kept Katsukiâs attacks and attention focused on the ground, all to set up her weapons. With the constant attacks and the vision-obscuring smokescreens, he never realized.
Ochako declares that sheâll win as a storm of debris comes raining down on Katsuki. Present Mic is just realizing that itâs a meteor storm, with Aizawa telling him to keep up. Izuku is shocked as well at such an extreme self-sacrificing strategy, completely unaware of the fact that sheâs modeling herself on HIM. Ochako rushes forward, telling herself that it should be enough, and that whether he intercepts or dodges, sheâll find her opening. She will win! She can win! Sheâll win just like Izuku did.
Katsuki literally blows her attack away, the explosion large enough that it sends her flying back as well. Katsuki comments on how that must have been all that hanging out with Izuku, and that he knew she had some kind of plan. Ochako is somewhat terrified at how he undid all her work in one attack. As the lingering debris rains down around the arena, Present Mic comments on how Ochakoâs secret plan went up in smoke.
Katsuki flexes his hand, muttering about that being a close one. Ochako forces herself back to her feet, thinking how that was the best she could do, but it wasnât enough. She still rushes at Katsuki anyways, while Katsuki determines that itâs finally time to get serious - even using her actual last name instead of a nickname.Â
But Ochakoâs out of everything she can give. Her body wonât move; Izuku realizes that she went over her weight capacity already. Midnight rushes in to check on her, but Ochako desperately tries to tell Midnight not yet. SHe pulls herself forward on her arms, thinking about her dad. After a moment of silence, Midnight announces that Ochako is unable to continue, and Katsuki moves on to the second round.
Katsuki looks⌠disappointed.
Damn, what a fight, though. I think Ochako actually proves herself to Katsuki here, since sheâs the first person whose actual name he uses in the entire series.Â
Now if youâll excuse me, the end-of-chapter extra page isnât here, so I have to go track it down. Iâll try to have that up in a moment. See yâall later.
âSeulgi, please! Iâll pay you back!â Sooya shouted from the kitchen to Seulgi who sat in the living room watching APink perform their newest comeback âIâm So Sickâ. When no answer came from Seulgi, Sooya stepped into the living room, knife from cutting vegetable still in her hand, âSeulgi.â Her voice was demanding.
The older girl looked up to her sister. âI already told you, take the damn train. Iâm not going near that woman.â Seulgi scoffed and turned back to the TV. Sooyaâs patience was running low, she pointed the knife in Seulgiâs direction, âShe is your fucking mother too Seulgi. I donât give a single shit if you feel hurt because she prefers me. If you wanted to be the favorite child so bad, you shouldnât have fucked her boyfriend on the side.â Seulgiâs eyes widened, her throat closed off. She couldnât even take a look at Sooya before leaving her sisterâs apartment, slamming the door behind her. Sooya was shaking, she the knife dropped on the floor, âFuck.â
A Second Chance For More. Chapter 5
Fifth chapter is here! Yay! I think by this point weâre half way through, but donât worry. There is still gonna be some great moments. Also wanted to say thanks for reading and following me! Means a lot. Anyway, enjoy friends!
12. 12 bombs were recovered around Kingâs Row, and it took till evening to find them. Hanzo found three more while searching the rooftops before Jesse and Lena located the last remaining two. They were all brought back to the lift, Satya putting everyone in a hard light orb.
   âIf they do decide to explode, the orbs will diminish the blast drastically,â She informed, wringing her sopping wet hair out. It was late, Nine at night, before they finally got back to their craft. Exhausted, wet, and cold, everyone could say they were miserable. Tenfold for the Talon captive that they had procured from this afternoons chase. Hanzo switched seats with McCree from this morning's flight, Ana wanting to tend to his arm. That, and the fact Hanzo just wanted to sit away from people. Everyone else was occupied anyway, Lucio taking notes on what Ana was doing, Jesse just looking bothered from being poked and prodded, Fareeha looking for god knows what in the back, Lena was piloting and Satya returned to her hard light fiddling. And Hanzo blocked out all of it, lost in his own mind that had slowing began to remember.
   How he did it. How he hacked his brother bit by bit, stabbing, slashing, carving. How he had to wash his skin until his skin started to peel just to rid of the scent of his brothers blood. How every night, Genjiâs slashed face was the only thing heâd see. He remembered it all, felt every feeling like it happened yesterday. His mind kept telling him heâs was better, that he was improving and fixing things, but the part of his head that he thought heâd silenced had started speaking again. He was frozen in his seat, just staring. Heâd stopped when a pair of dark coloured fingers snapped in front of eyes.
Explanations and Possible Solutions
It took not even a day or so after the unbirthday party for things at Heartslabyul to get worse than they already were. Much, much worse. Trey stood by Cater, watching as Riddle collared yet another student with his magic in the lounge. He had lost count of how many this made so far this year, and it was barely a week into the new semester.
âThe Queen of Heartsâ Rule #249: âFlamingo caretakers are to don pink attireâ,â Riddle recited for the latest member of Heartslabyul to slip up and make a mistake. âIt was supposed to be your turn to feed the flamingos today. Why arenât you wearing pink?â
âIâm sorry, Housewarden. My pink clothes were in the laundryâŚâ said the student, already down on hands and knees. âPlease⌠Please donât take my head off!â
âThis is your second rule violation. I cannot forgive a repeated offense. OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!â Trey fought back a flinch at the loud clang of the collar snapping around the studentâs neck. âWrite a 5,000 word apology and weed the garden for a week. Iâll gladly remove it then.â
The student choked on a sob. âThatâsâŚâ
âDo you think I enjoy having to do this?!â The student didnât speak, though he did flinch at Riddleâs loud tone. âYouâre the one who broke the rules! As much as I would like to, I cannot ignore these infractions. Itâs for your own sake, understand?â Once again, the student said not a word. Riddle sighed, rubbing at his temple with his free hand. âTrey? Cater? Take him outside.â
â...yes, Housewarden,â said both of Riddleâs loyal companions with a deep bow each. When Trey looked up, he saw more ink dripping from Riddleâs fingers and splattering on the floor as he walked away. It wasnât just droplets now. There were thick globs of it. And seeing thatâŚ
Trey couldnât spend another moment in the dorm. He headed to the library instead in an effort to try and clear his head. He thought that if he wasnât in the dorm, then he wouldnât have to think about it. He wouldnât have to think about what Riddle was doing, what he had seen⌠Out of sight, and out of mind.
Of course, Trey was clearly wrong. As he stewed in his guilt, glaring at the floor as he slid the book back on the shelf since the librarian was nowhere to be seen, he failed to hear footsteps approaching him from behind.
âClover.â Trey looked up. Deuce, Ace, and Emery were walking towards him with Grim held in Emeryâs arms.
âOh, itâs you four,â Trey sighed. How did he not hear them sneak up on him like thatâŚ? He shook his head. âWhat are you doing here?â
âWe figured that if we waited here long enough, youâd come by to return the cookbook that we used to use to make the mont blanc,â Emery explained as if it were simple math, âso we asked the librarian to let us hide out here until you did.â Trey hummed. Pretty clever for a couple of kids who couldnât seem to stay out of troubleâŚ
âWe still got a problem with the way Riddle is running things,â said Ace.
Trey bit back another sigh. âYeah, I bet.â To be frank, they werenât the only ones. They were the only ones who actually said it. Trey tried to turn to leave, but the freshmen were blocking his path. He wasnât getting away any time soon.
âCome clean about this. What do you really think about Riddle? Is it true that youâve been his lap dog since you were kids?â Since they wereâŚ?
âWho told you that?â
âWe ran into someone as we were leaving Heartslabyul yesterday,â Emery explained. âHe said his name was Chenya.â
âChenyaâŚâ Trey sighed. âThat explains it.â The nosy cat. What was he even doing in Heartslabyul anyway? And why did he feel the need to wedge himself into an issue that he wasnât involved in at all?
âArenât you older than Riddle?â Grim asked. Not by much; what was he trying to get at? âWhy havenât you told him off already? Whatâs wrong with getting angry at him?â
âI do it when I absolutely have to.â There were moments early in Riddleâs term as housewarden where he had to correct him on some things, but⌠âI just⌠I don't think the situation calls for it.â
âIs that the truth,â Emery asked, her arms crossed, âor can you just not bring yourself to do it?â It was an honest question, and one that she had no idea how much it implied. Trey exhaled through his nose, not sure about the answer.
