I finally made it back to my favorite grave at my favorite cemetery, with my favorite cemetery tree. It was two days after a huge rainstorm, everything was green and rather water logged, as far as soil goes. I left acorns at the grave of Sadie, my favorite grave- it’s hard to describe my relationship to Sadie. I collected soil (graveyard dirt) at the base of my favorite tree so it would have the energy of the shade, the living things, and the ‘dead’ things-- originally I intended to collect from Sadie’s grave but when I saw several rollie polie bugs (aka pill bugs) I didn’t want to disturb them, so I found a new spot that called to me.
The tree also gave me plenty of wee sticks and twigs to use in my cemetery dish, I’m planning on making a fence, if I can.
I collect and leave acorns as offerings because they symbolize rebirth to me, and its something the living creatures in the cemetery can benefit from, and also something a caretaker doesn’t have to clean up.

I’ve had this index made for a while but haven’t implemented it. Admittedly, there’s a lot of things I want to change with it already, but that’s what a work in progress is for. I used Cafe.Astro in order to get my chart and write all the little graphs out. I downloaded the printable version so I can read and organize it how I want later in my Notion Grimoire. A lot of my ethics are actually taken from Satanism. Fight me about it.
With some free time I began the promptlist of @grimoirechallenge2020 and have assembled my materials. Refillable notebook, some nice pens. The Arteza is the best, acid free and fade resistant, beautiful writing.
I assembled the graves, the graveyard dirt, and have begun assembling fences with some trial and error. It’s a bitch and a half though, it takes so much time. Sooooo much time that I’m getting a little impatient. I’m soooo ready to see this finished.
I’ve mentioned this lil project in other posts, its a cemetery dish, a wee little graveyard since I identify myself as a graveyard witch. I can’t get out with the pandemic- or rather, I could but I choose not to as my state is dumb and doesn’t take shit seriously. Thus, I am bringing a little of my outside world to my patio with this!
During the painting of the dish I used the paints to hide magical symbols and sigils that ended up blended in once it dried. You can kind of make out the pentacle in the dish, still though.

After April I had to force myself to pick myself up by my bootstraps, and taking a vacation from the world definitely helped with that. I caught up on some reading, did some journaling, and now here we are.
I found myself reading book after book about Hekate, and journeyed further down this path at a slow yet steady pace. I’ve had a few more big transitions going on in my life as well.
What I’ve Accomplished & How I’ve Grown
- I managed to find my footing after the last few months of having no motivation to do much. I haven’t been devoting myself to tarot much because sometimes I just need to talk it over with myself and not my cards.
- I created a Cemetery Dish in order to have a nice outside space where I can get some air, some silence, and some down time. Usually I go to the cemetery and read and write, and just get some quiet time, but with the pandemic and with moving away from my favorite cemetery, well, I don’t get that chance much any more. So I created this to get me through the rest of 2020 (because the pandemic is NOT over, and I’m not dying in round2, ok? cool ok) and it’s out on my patio.
- My garden is going swell, Rosie the rosemary is doing rad, the Lavender is sprouted and actually alive? (knock on wood) The Sage seems to be doing well, but I think I over-pruned it a bit this last time around. Another plant got added, my mom gave me her old rosemary bush who I have named Lolly.
- I’ve read about 5 books on Hekate and think this may be a goddess I want to invite into a meeting and see if we vibe, but on the other hand, things like that still make me nervous. I’m thinking of adding onto the Cemetery Dish and making a small area outside where I can attempt to evoke her presence and vibe with her, but I’m still taking it slow.
- I did quite a bit, I compiled my Lunar Correspondences, Month Correspondences, began an entry about Scrying and have been journaling experiences with scrying (fire scrying seems to be the most responsive in my case), I wrote a few rituals, catalogued my altar objects and my life in a personal timeline, and completed my Goodreads reading challenge of 15 books! I’m really proud of all I’ve gotten done even if some of the grimoire prompts ended up left to the be done in June- only 3 ended up not done.
What Is Still Before Me
- June 2020 is about the Physical Grimoire, and I’m looking forward to that but also the open-endedness makes it hard to know what I’ll be doing. I’ve got paper, a nice notebook, and plenty of art supplies to hopefully get me through the month, though! Maybe I should get a nice set of markers, but I don’t think that’ll happen.
- My 2 weeks notice was turned in a bit ago and my last day is June 6th. I really have no clue what I’m going to be doing after this, and that’s pretty scary. I definitely don’t want to stay, though, I’ve hit a HP:PoA, “any place is better than here” type of vibe. It might be risky to take my chances right now, but its my risk. I am fucking terrified of the unknown, but I’m going to jump into it and see what it holds.
- I began writing a new project recently and I have these hopes and dreams of what it could become and how it could help me truly cross Tarot and Writing together. It’s a book that someone could learn tarot from without ever having to memorize key words- that’s the goal.
- I did not research other deities as extensively as Hecate/Hekate. I still want to become more well versed in the Greek/Roman Pantheons, and I still want to study planetary magic.
So, this month had plenty to do on the Grimoire Prompts, but that was lead astray. I instead got caught up in a project of passion, so I do not think this is negative- passion leads us to wonderful things, and as I wrap up this passion project, I’ve decided to bookend it with this post. There is also some updates on my 30DoM, deities, particularly, Hekate. Updates on my bookshelf, and the other projects I’ve done. The ramble is under the cut.
Bookshelf
Midsummer - This has just arrived, so I’m about to begin digging into it.
Evoking Hecate - This was a good, quick read that gave me a lot of understanding and many more questions. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
The Temple of Hekate - I’m about 10% into this one and holy shitsnacks, LOTTA INFO. So much, that I have to take a few breaks just to sit back and absorb it.
The Greenhaven Encyclopedia of Witchcraft - I checked this one out on Archive.Org and have been skimming my way through it for more research topics.
White Spells - Checked out through Archive.Org again, and barely started. Meant to be a simple read, to be honest.
Cemetery Dish
A cemetery dish had been on my mind for a while, but I finally got down to it about a week and a half ago. It became part passion project, part slight devotional project as I read deeper and deeper into Hekate. I’m now maybe 80%(?) certain that this is the right way for me. My virgo placement in my astrology chart hints that I have to be 100% sure before committing to anything, though, and honestly, that’s very true. I really must be steadfast in my decisions, otherwise, they lack confidence and come back to haunt me. I digress.
This dish is now outside on my patio table by my only still-alive succulent. The sun hits it in the afternoon as I’m sitting outside after waking up (some of us work late, ok? ok) and the golden sheen obsidian just sparkles- its lovely.
I’m also preparing for next month, slightly, by getting the journal mentioned in this post here. Next month I work on my physical grimoire, so I’ve got parchment and a new journal. Not that the old grimoire is filled up, but we’ll get to that next month.
The cemetery has become a source of passion, so, inspired by this post, I have downloaded a map to add to the physical grimoire. I had to kinda photoshop it so that I could tape paper to my monitor and trace the roads- that way it’s also done by my own hand, something I find significant in grimoire & magical workings.
Personal Timeline
I created a personal timeline of my life recently, and plan on journaling about what each date means, what it did to impact my life, and so on. I think this is a good thing for anyone to do, just to take stock. Not every birthday is written down, eventually I’ll do a post on this, but as I’m still working through it for now.
Despite not sticking to my list, I don’t feel like I haven’t made progress. I’ve simply made a different kind of progress.
This month’s DoM is about deities, and how I relate to some. This post is going to allow me to ramble about that for a moment, put it all down to paper without the hand cramps of actually writing it. Feel free to continue scrolling, the ramble is below the cut.
I’ve had this, I really don’t know how to explain it, pull? Toward Hekate? I had, and have, been entertaining this for a long time, deities, and who could be my patron god or goddess. I didn’t get a possible sign toward Hekate until my birthday, when a friend did a tarot reading for my birthday- completely unsolicited and by surprise, with no knowledge that this had been on my mind. He drew a card from a deck with an image of Hekate, it was a card labeled Respect from an oracle deck- I’d have to look it up but I’m not going to right now. The message he gave me didn’t outright say “worship Hekate”, or anything like that, either, but I still remember it, and her image on the card is still perfectly imprinted in my mind.
So, as I began research she was on the list, and as one by one the list was narrowed, she stayed on. Now that I’ve done some reading the pull, that low hum has turned into a tune I can make out, is getting a bit stronger. I’m about to begin reading a bit more, but while I feel like maybe I should read a variety, truly look into the list deeper, the tune’s distinct and I’m following.
I’m about two? maybe three? books into this, and I’m picking out my next one. Meanwhile, I’ve been working on a few projects and they’re becoming heavily inspired by what I’m reading. My small outside altar that I’m planning has a cemetery dish, on account of me being a cemetery witch and finding that energy relaxing and home, and this project has become heavily inspired by Hekate, and I think rightfully so. [Photos of this project to come.]
I got a few new trinkets, a new journal is on its way, and I’m really looking forward to scrying, meditating, and thinking more on this. I don’t know if anything is specifically significant, but these ramblings may come in handy later, I guess.
