The ADHD Gods have decided I was going to wake up this morning to YAP and so YAP I SHALL! CAUSE I LOVE TO YAP, ITS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS TO DO!
So I got two projects in progress side-by-side, cause insanity loves company. Indebted to Death - the Prohibition Mafia AU - and The Lamb Known As Death's Betrothed - which is intended to be before, within, and after the events of the Main Game, standard fanfic stuff.
Both Lambs in both AUs share a name - Quinn Shepherd - cause I love the name, didn't feel like coming up with a new one, saw some of my favorite fic authors also reuse their Lambs names for different fics, and I love the name.
But the two couldn't be more different at the start.
Indebted To Death (ITD for short) Quinn is a shorty twink. They're 5'10, physically unscarred, polytheistic, muscles mostly from cardio, can barely fight, anxiety trouble, usually patient but short-tempered when stressed, and has to pretend to be someone/something they aren't. Their Narinder also towers over them, he's 6'5 and has a healthy thick musculature from being a mob boss who actively gets his hands dirty.
Death's Betrothed (DB) Quinn on the other hand! They're a 7'2 muscle bae who would've spat on any god that wasn't Yngya (before the events of Woolhaven, opinion changed after), had the musculature of what you'd expect from a veteran warrior with the fighting skills to match, patient as Death itself, and OH LORDY SCARS, PLENTY OF SCARS. Needless to say this Quinn towers over their Narinder, whose still 6'5 even here - post usurpation - but is more of his standard slim build you usually see Narinders have - given he was chained for centuries.
They do share some things though! I won't go into all of them, cause there's story spoilers aplenty if I did, but my favorite one is this: neither of them give two shakes of a lamb's tail for Narinder at the start.
Narinder is the one who pines for them first in both AUs. It eventually becomes mutual, but I wanted to make stories where the cat has to work for it. Especially for DB given the title of the AU, I wanted to defy expectations of the title.
ITD Narinder actually falls for Quinn without realizing it's Quinn at first. For reasons the story will show when we get there, slow burn gonna slow burn, baby!~
DB Narinder is a combination of him having a thing for danger, power, general attraction, and the fact that Quinn is actively avoiding him if at all possible. Like they see or hear him approaching and will make a visible effort to be somewhere else or have someone intercept Narinder so they don't have to deal with his shit.
It makes DB Narinder want to interact with them more cause 'curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought him back.' Why are they avoiding the tomcat? 🙃Oh... Reasons.~ That's spoilers though.
Okay, that's my ADHD impulse satisfied at last. YAP SESSION COMPLETE! Time to actually go do some writing. Chapter 2 of Indebted to Death is halfway done! Soon.tm!
Chapter 1 of The Lamb Known As Death's Betrothed is 3/4th done, but it'll probably be on the back burner while I focus on ITD.
