For starters, I'm glad they are finally saying the quiet part out loud. It's a small vindication for the many fans (myself included) who have been sounding the alarm for the past year, only to be dismissed as bitter, illiterate haters who didn't understand "the vision." TVL is a relaunch, and according to Miss Ma'am over here, it's designed to appeal to the audience that found S1 and S2 "not for them". For those who still don't get it, the important question you should be asking yourself is, Why were some viewers completely uninterested in S1 and S2, but are willing to give S3 a chance. Is it just the janky rock tunes and the psychedelic, colourful visuals? Or, mayhaps, could it be because IWTV was a black-led show, with a predominantly non-white main cast, that explicitly focused on the intersection of race and queerness? Anyways, is any of this really surprising given the current political climate? Not really. But is it still disappointing even when we saw it coming from a mile away? Absofuckinglutely! Welcome to "Great Again" America, where neither your president nor your favourite vampire can be black!

And again I must say that Black people, not being a monolith, there are no hard fast rules to being Black. I’m more than sure there are Black people like what I’ve described above, I’m not saying it’s impossible; what I’m getting at is that the only Black Nerd we see. There are Black Nerds that play basketball, that bump Kendrick Lamar, and use AAVE since it’s an ever changing dialect. I’m just saying there’s no one way of being a nerd and no one way of being Black.
