but if I were to say that I donât think vampires inherently and universally represent queerness and that if thatâs the only way you engage with any story containing a vampire then a lot of very important messages are going to go straight over your head? i would be killed to death.
ESPECIALLY an issue when vampires very explicitly represent fear of outsider immigrant non-white invaders! Dracula can absolutely be read with a queer lens but we cannot let our desire for ~spooky gay stuff~ blind us to the very real xenophobia, antisemitism, and orientalism present in a LOT of the foundational media in vampire history! nor the racism present in modern vampire stories!!!
Was talking to a coworker today who explained that her grandfather was like Snow White âbut Californian. And an old man.â in that the creatures of the forest would follow him around and presumably duet with him.
âWhen he died the ravens sat in the trees outside for a week, watching. Taking turns. A horde of raccoons tried to break into the house every night, tearing at the siding. Eventually they gave up, but it was unsettling.â
âAww. They were checking on him!â I said, like a normal person. Internally, I thought âMaybe you could do the thing you do with dead pets, where you show them to the living pets so the living pet understands theyâre gone. But I guess if you did that to a bunch of scavenging species, theyâd be like âWell, thatâs very sad but he IS food now.â So what youâd need, for human sensibilities, is some sort of transparent corpse barrier. Like a see-through coffin oh thatâs what the dwarves were doing! Youâve stopped paying attention to this conversation about the loss of a beloved family member you gotta phase back in.â
oh that's what the dwarves were doing
It's just very telling to me that while Season 16 and 17 are centered on one BAU member's emotional arc (Rossi and Emily, respectively), S18 is centered on Tara and JJ, and S19 is centered on Luke and JJ. In nearly every episode of the last two seasons, we're reminded of what JJ's going through, and we get to watch her story develop. That's how it should be! I'm glad they didn't forget about Will or drop her story altogether. But Tara and Luke aren't given that same courtesy. I'm not saying JJ should be getting less. I'm saying Tara and Luke deserve more.
It screams, "We (and by We I mean the writers, the studio, David f*cking Ellison, etc) don't trust our non-white cast to carry a season on their own". For the first three seasons of Evolution, Luke was given absolutely nothing to do, and then, the second he gets a storyline, Tara's story is pushed into the background as well. There's also the fact that Luke and Tara haven't had a single meaningful conversation with each other in years. That's especially wild because Adam and Aisha were friends before either one of them was on Criminal Minds. They have a built-in chemistry, and the writers refuse to take advantage of it.
The later seasons of the original run weren't perfect when it came to representation, but it did feel like there was an active attempt to push the show's diversity and inclusion further. And it is a big deal that Evolution made Tara the first Queer character on the show. I don't want to diminish that. At the same time though, Evolution has also taken massive steps backwards when it comes to how they handle their BIPOC cast members and that can't be ignored either.
I don't want to flood anyone's dash with negativity, but these are important conversations that need to be had, especially when we know the current owner of Paramount is actively working to remove Diversity from its shows. Adam and Aisha deserve better.

My favorite part of this post is that it implies Fred is the one saying âFUCKâ because we know who typically says the other 4 things
which makes sense as heâs the one who actually legally owns it

Megan Thee Stallion, Entrepreneur Magazine, 2026
Okay, I have an essay on Tara and Rebeccaâs relationship in CME and the racial biases that the fucking showrunners have (homophobia is very likely in there too).
Tara as a black woman is not allowed to be in stable and happy relationship and have that be shown on screen. In her previous relationships she was assaulted by her white husband and abandoned by her black fiancĂŠ (and I do think their races say something as well). And in evolution, she has the chance for real happiness. She even says as much: that sheâs ânever been this happy beforeâ. And that gets taken from her too. And we see that fallout. We see that fight as the audience. We see the bickering and the digs at each other. But we donât see any of the make up. In fact, all we get is Tara in a life and death situation and Rebecca not wanting to be alone after that. Then, we are told that they are back together again because they âare more miserable apart than they were togetherâ. Why did that have to be the description and reasoning we are given as an audience? Why canât it be that ânever been this happyâ again? Why is it that even when they are together, we still see that tension around the inability to let each other in? And itâs only after Tara almost dies that they get engaged. We are only given a bit of happiness to cheer for after she goes through a major trauma. And then we donât even see the wedding. We barely even see them interact after getting engaged. No small touches, quick kisses, nothing. And yet when you look at other relationships that are shown on the show, you get the couple against the problem (see JJ and Will, Rossi and Krystall, Matt and Kristy to name a few). You get to see sweet moments between them and light touches and kisses and everything else you expect from married couples!!! What is the difference??? Oh, maybe that they are an interracial sapphic couple??? I mean weâve all already noticed that the two off screen weddings were the black people on the show. Is it because they would have to hire people of color to be background actors and not suffer in some way, shape, or form?? And before you telling me itâs not that deep, it fucking is, okay. And it sucks. It sucks for us. It sucks for Aisha and Nicole and all the other people of color who get shunted to the side but are expected to take it because at least they have a job on one of the most streamed shows in the world. And so while white men and white couples get to have full feasts. Everyone else is expected to be grateful for fucking crumbs.
Is this my most concise or thought out post, no, itâs not. But Iâm tired of this. And Iâm not even the most effected by it. I mean we didnât even get a Tebecca clip for Pride this year, and we couldnât for this season because they didnât have any scenes together that werenât just work. Whatever, I guess I just need to learn how to write fluff to satisfy my own need for them because the fandom ignores them too.

just remembered shows used to have 20-25 eps per season
Anyways-
CORINNE MASSIAH as MAY GRANT ⤡ 911 fox â 5x04 - âhome and awayâ
What are the changes a season of CM will be set in June and there's an episode like Saturday where everyone goes to Pride on a day off?
theyâre too homophobic for this.
the concept of that episode being the series finale (because 20 wasn't confirmed yet when they filmed) they really were just going to let Emily's character end up all alone with no life outside the bau huh?
Only JJ and Rossi felt like they were ending that season on a note that felt wrapped up. And no hate to either of those characters, but there are five other members of the team!
Penelope has arguably been given the third most fullness to her character. But even she feels like sheâs just drifting around unanchored.
I mean, Tara has Rebecca, but weâve really only been allowed to see her pain, because god forbid a black woman have happiness. And I actually have a lot to say about that but itâll be itâs own post.
Luke and Emily have nothing outside of the BAU. And Tyler barely exists as a full person. If season 20 is the last season, I hope they give us more for each of the characters than they did this season. It just sucks to feel like we care more for the characters than they do as the creators.

Iâve loved Octavia Spencer for like 25 years and always thought she was a beautiful person but the way Ride or Die treated her appeal and gorgeousness as a fact has me like DAMN HAS SHE ALWAYS BEEN THIS DREAMY?!
Do yâall remember when alcohol wasnât allowed in Quantico and they had to sneak it around? Cause like when did that rule change???? Let alone Emily brazenly drinking in her office and taunting about her liquor supply, her and Tara having a drink in the round table room and the director walks in and itâs nothing???? Like i know itâs like a character trait that Emily drinks a lot, but like Strauss had to hide it in her desk.
