MHMMMM I don't tend to have the energy for hot takes but I have one.

I think Buck should've gotten Bobby's knife rather than Harry. Harry and Bobby's whole relationship was about how he saw Bobby as a friend versus a father figure. His whole arc of becoming a firefighter was about filling in Bobby's turnout and honoring him.

Passing on a knife between a father and son is like such a Thing™️ that would've made more sense with Buck. By putting Harry in that place for the ritual just made the whole thing too heavy handed and trying to tell us about a relationship that we didn't see in the show.

You have a couple of instances where Buck, May, and Harry are lumped in as Bobby's "kids" but each of those relationships were very different. Harry saw Bobby as a buddy, Buck saw Bobby as a hero, and May saw Bobby as a protector all while he still filled the father role for them in some way. So by having Harry trying to fill Bobby's turnout coat, you have him finding purpose in his life and stepping into adulthood. Giving Buck the knife would've had Buck trying to fill Bobby's legacy.

MY OTHER PART OF THAT TAKE THOUGH IS... That if it wouldn't have been Buck who got the knife then I think it should've been May. Because we saw May and Bobby have more of that father-daughter relationship than necessarily Bobby and Harry, it would've been a nice twist on that ritual. It would've made May's relationship with Bobby an equal to everyone else in a way. Since his passing, we haven't gotten to really explore May's grief outside of being a supportive figure for Athena and Harry. By giving her the knife, you could've even gone further into her shared relationship of Bobby when she got together with Ravi. I think it would've been nice way to include her in that loss and then discussed more about the inner strength she has etc etc.

So long story short in my opinion I wouldn't have given the knife to Harry and would've given it to either Buck or May.

First Impressions/Review: 9x14, Part 1

La trama aborda, en general, dos temas:

1. El instinto.

2. Pedir ayuda.

May se está preparando para solicitar unas prácticas en un bufete de abogados. Quiere hacerlo por su cuenta, sin la ayuda de su madre, ya que el socio director del bufete es amiga de Athena.

Durante el episodio, le preguntan dos veces por qué estudia Derecho. Pero ella recita mecánicamente un discurso sin mostrar sinceridad.

May estudió Derecho porque creía que debía seguir una carrera que su madre no había podido seguir.

Como hija digna de Athena Grant y habiendo sido criada por Bobby Nash (su padre de corazón), tiene el instinto de ayudar en momentos de crisis. Tal y como ocurrió en el hospital.

Y tal y como ocurrió al comienzo de la temporada, cuando se ocupó de las personas heridas por la caída de los satélites.

Y tal y como organizó la subasta de solteros.

Y tal y como Athena le recordó que ella también había trabajado en la centralita.

Al final, ese instinto familiar la está llevando por un nuevo camino.

Lo mismo ocurre con Maddie.

Sue, la supervisora de la centralita, tiene un derrame cerebral. En el hospital, delega su trabajo en Maddie cuando se esperaba que Josh fuera su sustituto.

El instinto de Sue le decía que eligiera a Maddie, aunque sabía que eso podría herir los sentimientos de Josh.

Sue le explica a Maddie que ella tiene ese instinto de pedir ayuda y de delegar. Josh, por su parte, es capaz de asumir todo el trabajo sin darse cuenta de que eso puede ser perjudicial para él y para quienes trabajan en la centralita.

Ya hemos visto que Maddie tiene ese instinto de actuar en base de las emocione, sensaciones y motivaciones. Lo vimos en el episodio sobre la inteligencia artificial, cuando se utilizaron su voz y sus registros de llamadas como referencia.

Sin embargo, ¿de verdad quiere Maddie el puesto que ocupará Sue en el futuro?
