During a high speed car chase pursuit, the FOX 11 Los Angeles helicopter had an unexpected moment when they spotted a rooster and a chicken casually walking down the sidewalk right in the middle of the pursuit.
The fact that they were walking 1-3mph
His joy and whimsy at seeing this
His acknowledgement of it not being as interesting as the chase
His little "huh" cuz you know they told him to focus
now that's a friend indeed
"Ignore the long Elmo" no I don't think I will

The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because they’re hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.
Did you know that soda machines at restaurants and movie theaters spy on you? That most common new cars now record your sexual preferences and send it to the manufacturer (and also data about anyone who also gets in your car, walks by your car, and maybe happens to be within visual range of your car)? That grocery stores are trying to force customers to download an app to scan barcodes on shelves instead of putting up prices, so the app can scan the phone, decide how much that customer should be squeezed for, and adjust the price? That more and more innocent people are being sent to jail for crimes committed hundreds of miles away because an AI facial recognition algorithm spit their faces out and the cops didn't bother to do the most basic of checks?
I am not uptight about privacy because I'm hiding something. I'm uptight about it because the people who dismiss my right to privacy are dangerous to you and me and our families, personally, all the time.
And often, they are assholes, too.
sometimes i get flashbacks on here to conversations i tried to have with conservatives re: white privilege - but it becomes apparent that irrespective of political alignment, a lot of people have the same kneejerk reaction to "you have privilege"
like you try to bring it up with a conservative white man and he'll say, "my life wasn't easy. I grew up in a trailer park, raised by a single mom who was also a drug addict, and I have never had things handed to me. I struggled." and it's just. yes! you were subject to classism! your mother also faced misogyny, and institutional medical obstacles regarding addiction/drug treatment. you were disadvantaged compared to people who didn't have to endure any those things, and what happened to you was devastating and real.
all that "white privilege" means is that you were also not dealing with racism on top of that. that's it. that's what it means.
but if you push on this point, the reaction then pivots to: "but i'm not racist. i haven't used that privilege to hurt black people. i don't 'wield' my privilege against them."
great! interpersonal conflict is very much not how privilege largely manifests, it's exercised by systems and institutions that are beyond the reach of you and your friends. you may not have done anything to your black friend, but if you both applied for a loan at the same bank, all other things being equal, there is a historical precedence for you, a white man, being given better terms and resources. that is white privilege. neither of you are the banker, the banker is exercising power over both of you in making this decision.
and so ostensibly progressive people on here, who experience marginalization along one axis, will still reject any assertion that they have certain privileges - "I can't experience white privilege fully because I'm autistic" - there's a word for what you experience alongside white privilege, and it's called ableism. these two things very much coexist, because you are not also experiencing racism's intersection WITH the ableism you face. "I haven't used my male privilege against anyone, I don't oppress the women around me" - I never said you did, now if you and a woman both worked the same job, who is your employer (who wields the power in this situation) likely to pay more?
like, people are still caught up in the very real struggles they're facing to no fault of their own, but they continue to interpret "you have X privilege" with "your life is easy / you don't suffer from other issues / you're the one making life harder for people without that privilege." and it would be great if we could just get back to the basics of intersectionality here and stop operating on false assumptions!!

I wish more people understood how deeply embarrassing it is to be made fun of for something you can't control.
This post could be referencing any number of things but is specifically about body odor. I've said before that I have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). I'm so self-conscious about it that I shower every day (sometimes multiple times a day!) and wear deodorant and antiperspirant all over my body. This doesn't even help.
People's negative comments about how weebs/nerds smell bad and don't care about hygiene affect me and people like me. Yes, even those of us who aren't that into anime.
Before you tell me that hyperhidrosis is rare, so you don't want to stop making these comments on account of us -- I'm not just talking about people with hyperhidrosis. There are so many disabilities that cause issues with hygiene. I'm guessing there are an even larger number of people who don't have regular access to running water.
Y'all already know not to make fun of people you dislike by calling them fat. Now think about all the other people you might be hurting when you make fun of people you dislike.
co-signed by someone whose PTSD meds fuck with my body's temperature regulation and make me sweat buckets at weird times. yeah I know I randomly look like I just ran a marathon or some shit, it's either that or have flashbacks every five minutes
Yeah. I have body odor so bad that when I was at boot camp, even though I was showering just as much as everyone else because we all showered at the same time time, my drill instructor still had to go out and buy me actual antiperspirant because the deodorant we got issued wasn’t cutting it. I was frank, “yeah I have to use the industrial strength stuff”. I literally can’t control it.
