there’s this thing that happens on this website that’s like the opposite of pissing on the poor and is far better but also still somewhat annoying when you post something where the point is implied and then someone else adds the point you were making in a reblog as though they are like, adding something new and insightful to the post. eg you can post something about a female scientist from the 1800s having her intellect undervalued in her time and someone else is going to add like “that’s so crazy… i think they were treating her this way due to misogyny” and like well yes. i mean… yeah. you got it

Knight and Midsummer eve (happy pride 🏳️🌈)
we have a new baby. the rest of the herd is gonna make their way out to pasture and i want abilene and her calf to stay close to the house where i can give abilene hay. the pasture is dried up and shit so i've been feeding the herd in the barn. i lure them over there to eat that. i come back to where i left abilene with hay. abilene says "thanks bye" and starts to take her baby all the way out to the pasture where the herd is

in the middle of crying for no reason i was interrupted by the sounds of one of my neighbors blasting "shadow the hedgehog pissed on my fucking wife" so loud it echoed around the courtyard outside
When i turn an idea into a fic, it means that was an idea that developed far enough to have (for me) a compelling narrative through-line, and like a thesis for what this fic is about.
What this doesn’t capture is the ongoing daytime television playing in my head most days of self-indulgent scenarios that don’t have things like “cohesion” or “a narrative arc” but do an absolutely great job of filling time while like. Waiting for the bus.
Like it’s hard to come up with an original and compelling idea and then figuring out how to best wrap and deliver that idea through a set of cohesive narrative beats.
What’s EASY is going “what if Character Who Gets Hurt A Lot gets hurt again and it’s not even THAT bad but for some reason this was the last straw and they’re crying in a bathroom stall about it while being mad at themselves and then the Character They Least Want To Find Them Like That comes and finds them like that”
And I think what’s most important about these scenarios is they’re so interruptible. There’s no planning out a truly solid set of narrative beats that need to play out in order. It’s just a pause and play and rewindable scenario. So I can go “oh bus is here” “oh meeting started” “oh oven timer went off” and then come back to it later, whenever, at any part of the story.
And this also fundamentally makes them poorly suited to make into a real fic because there’s 8 variations and no true end. I could write it and be like “okay and that’s like, that’s like as far as I got, this doesn’t go anywhere, thanks, want to see the 7 alternate versions of that middle scene?”
And also it does not lend itself well to fic because sometimes the aforementioned self-indulgence is like this
And I don’t need everyone knowing I live like this
