Will humanity ever be free of the influence of Edna Mode? Can any of us so much as consider the character design for a hero or villain without her manifesting in the room, fully aware of our sins?
You know what, another layer of difficulty is when you’re thinking about villains, and the wise words of Megamind come into your head. You don’t just want your child to be just a regular villain. But how do you make your villain a Supervillain with no cape? Where is the drama? But Edna says no capes, you must deny them the flair. It is impossible to please them both, and it’s tearing this family apart.
you. you get it.

Counteroffer: Big dramatic cloak to protect your identity that you drop on the floor before every fight
#there are two wolves inside you #one is edna mode #the other is megamind (@remnantofahero)
I can’t believe the compromise is Obi-Wan Kenobi
“No capes!”
“Game on, then.”
Okay, but I love that Gandalf is just dropping his cloak to reveal another, slightly smaller cloak underneath it.

QUEER IS AN IDENTITY, NOT A SLUR

out of context moments in BVS to convince you to watch it:
Lex Luthor cosplays an even worse (somehow) version of Mark Zuckerberg
Batfleck is fully ass-out in the training montage
a Senator is force-fed a jolly rancher by Lex. like he shoves it into that dude's mouth against his will and everyone just. watches??
Batman gets stabbed in the shoulder and proceeds to pull the knife out and stab that person back in the same exact place just to be a bitch
Clark Kent works full time as a reporter and manages to write 0 total words and somehow his coworkers don’t hate him
“I like those shoes.”

i was gonna say “wow, they’re really pushing the came back wrong trope because buffy keeps repeating the exact phrase” until i googled and realise the phrase “came back wrong” literally originates from buffy. this show is like the modern shakespeare
in 2004 a thread started on buffistas.org to discuss tropes used in Buffy and other Whedonverse shows. At the time there were no formal names for most tropes so users assigned them names based on the scenes they were discussing. This thread inspired one of the site members to start the website TVTropes.org
Most of the listings on TVtropes were named after scenes and quotes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
what learning fandom history is like
(and if it's not btvs, as people in the tags have noted, it's star trek or the x-files)

did you know you can re-read fics? did you know that if you wait long enough and have a bad memory and/or have read so many other fics since then that they all blur together you can then experience the fic almost as if it's the first time all over again??? DID YOU KNOW

Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
Anyone gonna mention how this guy actually preformed live with Carly Rae Jepsen?
I’m gonna scream is2g
I was thinking of reblogging this again just because the original video is still amazing, but then I see the second video and lost my mind. The upgraded fan, the body glitter, the sheer fact that he got to do this with the actual singer.

Years before the covid pandemic began, author Naomi Kritzer wrote the charming, emotionally genuine short story "So Much Cooking," which was a pandemic log through the eyes of a cooking blog. The premise is that the author is a home cooking blogger raising her kids, and then a pandemic hits--and bit by bit she's feeding not only her own, but her sister's kids, some neighbors' kids, and so on, in a situation of pandemic lockdown and food shortages.
It's very good, and was prescient for a lot of the early days of the covid pandemic. I found myself returning to it often in the first couple of years because of how steadfast it was in its hopefulness.
Last year she wrote a novelette, "The Year Without Sunshine," which attacks a similar problem in a similar way; instead of pandemic, this one is about the aftereffects of a distant nuke or a massive volcano explosion (it doesn't say), which has churned a great deal of dust into the air, causing massive damage to society and agriculture. The story covers one neighborhood, pulling together to keep each other alive--not through violence, but through lawn potatoes and message pinboards and bicycle-powered oxygen concentrators.
I recommend both stories. They're uplifting in a way that a lot of what I see lately isn't. They're a bit of a panacea for constant fearmongering about intracommunity violence and grinding hatefulness. We can be good to each other, if we try.
These are both excellent stories, and I also heartily recommend her story "Better Living through Algorithms."

i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.
it's funny looking back at this post specifically because shortly after i first posted it, it got reposted to reddit and most of the responses were "this is a rosy view of the past internet at best, things aren't that bad now" which, if you really think the current internet has produced safer conditions for children and minorities, i beg heavily to fucking differ. but then it got reposted to that same reddit a few months ago and the response was universally in agreement. i think it's been that fast of a noticeable decline. just interesting to note.
