billy is cremated and since neil left and susan is mentally miles away, max carries billy's ashes around with her because she doesn't know what to do with him, can't get to san diego to spread the ashes and billy hated hawkins so now max is That Weird Kid stashing her brother's remains in her backpack debating with a ziploc bag if he'd prefer the radioshack off the highway or what's left of the camaro-scraps in the junkyard, squishing the ashes around between classes and telling billy about all the drama between the nerds and her dates with lucas and how steve somehow picked out billy's jacket from all the other jackets from goodwill and how many bottles mom's gone through and they lost the house on cherry lane and neil just disappeared and that billy is such a dick to say sorry and fuck off and sometimes she thinks she can hear billy's annoying manic cackle telling her she's such a freak and she better learn stick because where he is they don't do lame shit like automatic.

YES. max buys a ouija board after lucas catches her arguing with her bag-o-billy to prove she is not crazy or hearing things that billy is still there somewhere and so she rounds up lucas and dustin and mike and steve and wishes so hard el and the byers hadn't moved and she rallies them all to the cherry lane house because it hasn't been sold just yet so they break in around midnight and sit in what was billy's old bedroom that's been emptied out to bare walls and dusty floors and get on with the seance and the room fills with the scent of his cologne then it starts with a few cuss words and a round of dick dick dick that has max rolling her eyes and telling billy to be serious and the boys laughing and lucas looking at her worried and then the candles flicker like they always do in these types of scenes in the movies and then steve snaps his head back and rolls his shoulders and looks at each of them in that heavy-eyed sleepy-eyed i don't give a shit kind of way before curling his lips in a smirk and asking max is she brought any smokes because goddamn did he need one.

i'm literally the priest's favorite sacrificial lamb because i am so docile and sweet and i hold very still when they put the rope around my neck and i trot along so happily while they lead me to the altar and they do not even have to tie me down because i lie so very still and only bleat once or twice in my lovely lamb voice and when the knife comes down it cuts through me like butter and i offer no resistance and i bleed so prettily all over my new white wool and my guts all unspool like the most beautiful shining yarn and my eyes are animal and dumb and hold no accusation and every time i die i come right back as another little lamb because the priest loves me so so much and he always chooses me for the sacrifice every time and he always places one hand on my small and twitching nose to calm me while he lifts the knife and he doesn't do it for the other lambs only me because i'm his favorite

they should make a version of socializing that doesn’t make you feel like you’re still the weird 12 year old kid that doesn’t know why she’s not normal like the other kids
