Welcome to being an adult! Featuring such injury causing events as
- sneezed wrong
- turned your neck a little too fast
- slept weird
- took the trash out to the curb and stepped at a slightly different angle than usual
- breathed
- failed to breathe properly
- breathed in the wrong stuff. Allergy time
- looked too hard at something too far away
- knees
SIMPLE GUIDE:
Body Horror: Things that cannot happen in real life. EX: The Thing, stomach mouths, eyes on hands, etc
Gore: Fresh injuries, often severe. EX: Severed leg, gutspill, deep gashes, etc
NEITHER: Healed injuries and burns, congenital differences, missing appendages, etc. If I could theoretically go to the store and see that character browsing the isles- It isn't body horror or gore. That's just a person. *AND the amount of people that tag, not just fictional characters, but real human beings as body horror is staggering. Its not solely a fandom issue, ableism and bigotry against anyone that looks sufficiently "different" is prevalent in real life and has devastating consequences.
(Modified) from my comment left on this post.
First of all, OP is 100% right that tagging other people as body horror is a shit thing to do.
This is obviously because you're (general you) being an asshole about visible differences, but also because you're not even using "body horror" correctly. Coming from a long time enjoyer of all things horror, body horror is not about unusual body parts or disfigurement. Body horror is about experiencing changes to your own body that are strange or unexpected and out of your control. (Obviously horror-as-entertainment works by giving you a proxy to experience these things through.)
Body horror can be about very normal things like pregnancy or losing teeth, the horror part comes entirely from your experience of it as something other, something strange, something uncontrollable.
I have a very strong reaction to teeth related horror, frequently my nightmares are about this. That doesn't make a picture of a person without teeth "body horror".
I know quite a few people who find pregnancy deeply disturbing and something they would rather not experience. That doesn't make my colleague walking around with her belly visible an attack on them.
It's an entirely useless tag and it's an awful thing to do to people just existing in their own bodies.
(However, that also means that people tagging themselves this way is an entirely different thing. That's their business.)

I think maybe the thing I like most about the human race is that we will invent something completely, utterly, blazingly stupid and then do it because it brings joy. This is so dumb. This is so awesome. This makes me so happy.

Yes
No
Listen, most tumblr users are over 25. That means our potential 4x older friends are... over a hundred years old. I'm actually surprised you can find 9% of people where this works.
Mine would be 168 years old, which probably means I have to start befriending vampires.

Only 13% of Germans thinking Merz is doing a good job and that's from BEFORE he went "also you will need a doctor's note from day 1 and can't call that in either you will have to go there in person good luck lmao"... Hans-Peter let's go dust off the Guillotine!
What gets me is that... this is incredibly taxing on the Healthcare system! It's really expensive! So what we're also doing is cutting benefits. Make it make sense.
Movement nudge, hand mobility! 🙌

1) do this even if you're under 40. seriously. I definitely should have been doing something like this for years and I only turned 40 a month and a half ago
2) if you're like me just now trying this going "oh god i've only done 15 and i think my hands are cramping" start lower than 30 and increase by 5 once whatever number you're doing no longer makes your hand cramp up. I can manage about 15 per exercise at the moment.
If you're hypermobile, be especially gentle.
If you do a lot of GRASPING make sure you do the SPREADING WIDE counterstretch. Whenever I crochet or handwrite for a long time I gotta do that one frequently

From the article:
Forty years after China launched the "Wild Horse Return Program", the Przewalski's horse — the world's only surviving wild horse species — has completed a historic transition from being on the brink of extinction to there being self-sustaining wild herds in Northwest China. The population of Przewalski's horses in China has surpassed 900 individuals, accounting for approximately one-third of the global total, according to figures released during an event to mark the 40th anniversary of the species' reintroduction. The milestone follows decades of conservation under the "Wild Horse Return Program", an initiative launched in 1985 to restore the species that was declared extinct in the wild during the 1970s due to poaching and habitat loss. The recovery has successfully transitioned the "living fossil" — which possesses an evolutionary history of 60 million years — from captive breeding to self-sustaining wild herds.

So! This is a perfect case study in situations where you should be wary of misinformation.
Take a moment and ask yourself, a project like this requires a lot of time, money and dedication of resources, why would scientists dedicate that time to something that could just be done by a tree?
The answer is they wouldn't. So that means this claim requires further investigation!
This project is called LIQUID 3, and it's not meant for cities with wide open spaces, it's meant for cities like Belgrade in Serbia. These cities are densely populated and heavily polluted, to the point where pollution actually chokes out current trees and makes creating green spaces difficult.
Liquid 3 was a PhD scientists answer to these problems. The microalgae tank is intended for spaces where you either:
Don't have enough space to plant full trees, or
Don't have enough time to plant trees and wait for them to grow up.
The tank is extremely efficient when you consider the amount of space needed compared to the amount of CO2 turned into oxygen. The tank can operate throughout the winter. And most importantly, it can be quickly set up in areas that desperately need relief from air pollution NOW not in 10 years when trees are done growing. Children currently suffocating on polluted air can't wait for trees to grow, they need to be taken care of now, and Liquid 3 is one of the ways to take care of them. Depending on the species of microalgea used, a number have shown a pretty amazing capacity to pull heavy metals out of the air which is something trees can get choked up by.
The tanks aren't just tanks either! Liquid 3 have solar panels placed on top, they have lighting and mobile phone charging, and they work as public benches. The designers of it want to encourage green spaces where there's room, but where there isn't room or time, Liquid 3 can step in. Realistically, this isn't a replacement for trees. It's replacing boring metal city benches with new, cooler benches that also clean the air (and have at least some heating during the winter).
Not only that, but the microalgea that grows is native to Serbia and all that microalgea has a ton of great uses! It makes for great fertilizer, compost, wastewater treatment, cleaner biofuels and even for helping create new tanks for further air purification. They only require a quick algae divide once a month, and the produced algae can be carted off to where ever it's needed. This makes them effective solutions for areas that can't sustain complex installations.
So yeah, there's actually quite a lot of places that would like these. Lots of people currently breathing in terrible quality air would much rather have their boring city benches replaced with really fucking cool algae tanks that clean the air and can be used to help create + sustain future green spaces in cities. I dunno about you, but I'd take that over a dumb metal bench any day. Put these at every bus stop and I'd be delighted.
can ppl pls reblog this version
Serbian here living in Belgrade! This is all true and I've actually seen some of these around the city a few times. They're amazing at what they do and really cool to watch up close because you can see pretty swirling inside them. It's not only functional but aesthetically pretty nice as well!
