Tabby knew she probably looked like a mess, all frazzled and running through the door close to 11. But she didn't want to miss this! Just her luck that the convention was the end of the week, the same time as an Open Mic Night. She'd gotten a few texts from people, asking where she was, expecting her to be up there singing. Normally, she would be. But right around the same time, she was staring at diagrams of animal stomachs and the new technology that allowed them to see further into the cellular walls.
So, after getting off the plane, she'd raced home and dropped off her stuff, only to race back here. Spotting a familiar face, she pretended to wipe off a drop of sweat. "I'm so sorry I'm late. Did I miss anything good? Did I miss you going up to sing?"
cider point never really ceased to amaze danny with the events and the amounts of people that showed up. this was absolutely no exception in his eyes. its loud, fun, and buzzing with people he both loved interacting and avoided like his life depended on. good thing it was busy enough for him to hide when needed. maybe if he wasn't lowkey left somewhat alone, he would have done less avoiding. however, it doesn't take much longer of staying on the side-lines when he finally catches a sigh of tabby running through. "apology accepted." danny starts, looking at the stage when she asked if she was going to sing and pointing back at himself "me? up there? not a chance." he almost scoffs "however, you missed some fun stuff i will give you that."
his head tilted side to side, the last five years flashing through his mind, and then the five years before that following soon after. âhonestly? time's kind of slowed down.â for many reasons, not all of which he's willing to name, but he's grateful for it all. âsometimes it feels like i've done it all, slow motion, speed run. here, i've justâŚstrolled. but i agree, it's nice that everyone's so involved. community's important here, you know?" cheeks warm, he shrugged, couldn't help but feel as though he showed the hand he didn't realize he was hiding. âno, nothing like that," he laughed easily. âi teach english at the high school. so there is a desk, but i don't sit at it a whole lot. the kids keep me on my toesâŚâÂ
"really?" danny asks, brows raised "i feel like it's sped up for me." he says, honestly surprised at the difference in their experience. he listens to owen, nods his head even a few times. funny how people could experience things so differently "community is great here, i agree. i really like it. one of the best things if you ask me." he says, perking up a bit more out of curiosity when he finds out about owens job "no way. i used to be a teacher before i came here." it slips out quicker than he insists, almost makes him laugh at how he sounds "yeah, kids can be a handful but that's half the fun of being a teacher." he says, placing the needed amount of cookies in the box.
âWell, sometimes those are the best things, right? Seen better days, and all that.â And Billy really had to believe in that, given the state of himself. He had more of a beard than heâd had in years, and his eyes were sort of sunken in a bit, but he came out here, and he met up with his friend and he tried, which had to count for something. Maybe he was just like the discarded pastries. A little worse for wear, but they tasted just as good, just as sweet. âNice, man! What book are ya reading?â He chuckles to himself, picturing the altercation in his mind. âSheâs a funny one, that Grace. Always pretty kind to me, though. Why? You on her good side? Sheâs one I wouldnât want to cross.âÂ
"fully agree." danny says with a sturdy nod "some days at work i feel like the pastries man, like-" he scoffs at his own trail of thought "especially when things dont work out. like i drop the flour- oh my god, that was something i will never forget, have you dropped like 10 kilograms of flour? that shit went everywhere." he whines maybe slightly too dramatic as he reaches to rub his eyes like it would help remove the image from his mind. "i'm on the hype train, project hail mary. highly recommend." he says with a small nod, hands dropping from his face. at the comment about grace being funny AND kind, danny can't h elp but turn to look at billy like he had grown two heads.. maybe three "sorry mate, can you repeat yourself again? are you sure we are talking about the same grace?" danny asks, voice a bit too deadpan "me? cross her? she dumped me- i should be the mean one-"
"Did you like it?" The question leaves her lips before she can stop it. It's not a bad question, of course, but it feels like asking him to weigh in on discourse he might be trying to avoid. Her work had divided the internet, and though his answer won't change whether or not Nora is drawn to it, she's interested to see where he lands. "I'm also a sucker for a hyped book, I'll admit," with warm cheeks, "and as sad as it sounds, whenever I have a popular book in my book journal video for the month, it always does a little better than when I don't." Not that Nora chases views at all, but it feels like a fair trade: reading something that feels a little risky, to maybe make enough back in ads to buy a book she really wants. "Have you seen My Sister's Keeper? That's hers. If you haven't, don't. It'll wreck you." She laughs softly. "That's so worth it, though. I've heard it's really good. The wait for it at the library is crazy right now."
he can't help but shrug his shoulder, slightly pondering at the question "not my thing i guess?" it didn't really matter to him what his opinion was, the internet could never sway him - especially if he didn't like a book "its not bad, she has some good ones but... yeah, just average?" he explains, bringing his cup of tea to his lips as he listens to nora speak. "i haven't noticed a trend like that with mine. I tend to pick an author and kind of.. binge read all of their things, it's been years since chris carter released anything and im just dying for another good crime book from him." danny says a bit dramatic as he places his cup back on the table "i actually haven't, but, i like me a book like that." he says with a nod "do you have it? i will have to borrow it." he tilts his head to the side at the mention of the wait list "really? i'll give it to you once i finish it, wont be long."

âfor real,â she repeated, giggling and giving a nod. âwould you want to take care of him this weekend? maybe for an hour?â eyes glanced from him down to cerberus, watching as he enjoyed playing around. âhaving a german shepherd would be cool though. do you usually have a busy schedule? if you ever decide to get one, i hope that means cerberus will have a new friend.â
"a weekend sounds great." he tries his best to sound even a just a bit nonchalant about it, but his eagerness slips a bit too obviously with the way he answers without missing a beat. "it would be very cool." he manages to get the ball out of the dogs mouth, throwing it back into the grass for it to chase "i wouldn't say i have a busy schedule, but its busy enough for a working dog. maybe a whippet? a silken hound? something slightly funny looking. i think it would match cerberus good. " danny says, half joking half serious.
with arms crossed over her chest, vada watches as the girl browses through, her face lighting up at the mention of a party. " a theme could be fun, " she offers, lips spreading into a smile. her gaze eventually drifts down to the navy blue dress against charlieâs body, taking a moment to take it in fully before she nods in quiet approval. " itâs perfect. " then a playful eye roll. " i know, these lights are so tricky. we have better ones in our fitting room, though. you want to give it a try? "
"but what theme? should it be silly? or something like wear and outfit you have nowhere to wear?" in which this case the blue dress might be a poor option. but vada tells her that the colour is perfect and she's tempted to go and try it on "should i? you're tempting me now." charlie says with a grin giving the dress another look before nodding "yeah, i think i should try it on." she agrees, already turning towards the fitting rooms "but i could also try and organize a pool party? the weather is getting warmer and all."

"I'm so sorry, she's not normally like thisâ" Which isn't entirely the truth. Lucky does love to rush up on people for fuss, but never anyone she's never met before. He's always overly cautious; you never know how people feel about dogs in general, let alone ones that come at them at speed. She'd given him the slip this time, caught him off guard and made her way over with fervour to an unsuspecting passerby. "Are you okay with dogs?" He asks, already wrapping her lead around his hand to give it a tug at a moment's notice.
maybe charlie really shouldn't have pouted in the direction of the dog when it ever so vaguely glanced in her direction, but she doesn't regret it a single bit with the ball of fluff almost taking her out. "no, no it's okay-" she says, trying her hardest not to smile too much as her hands find their way behind the pup's ears "me?" she looks up at the owner, nodding her head confidently "absolutely!" her attention turning back to the dog she was petting "who wouldn't be with such a cutie! what's their name?"

âi know i brought them to tradeâŚâ winter sighed heavily as eyes bounce between the two smalll plant pots in her hand. two things were absolutely true at once. one, winter didn't need the pots. she never planted anything that that small anymore. two, she didn't want to let them go. they weren't particularly special, but, well, she always had a hard time letting go of anything. at least if anyone understood that, charlie did. âbut what if i didn't and just said i did? i mean,â she held them up to her face, in charlie's eyeline, âlook at them! they just look so pretty sitting on my porch!â empty, growing nothing but cobwebs.Â
charlie can't help but look at the two pots in winter's hands, brows raised a bit sceptical "i mean.." she starts, pouting, trying to figure out what to say that made sense "but you picked them up to trade them, didn't you?" she asks, reaching over and wiggling her fingers at winter as if to hand over one of the pots "why change your mind suddenly?" the pots look like pots, but she was never a big flower person so maybe she misses something important.
He gave her a quick look over as she walked by before huffing out a laugh, "She give you a lotta trouble?" The question was mostly in jest. Xavier had done enough farm work to know it was nearly impossible not to complete the task Charlie did without ending up in the same state. "I'm nearly finished cleaning up in here. There might be hope for getting out of here before the sun sets yet." Probably not, there was always something else to do. Truth be told, he really didn't mind, though. The farm was steady, calm, and predictable in a lot of ways that he found comfort in and made him far more placid than he usually was. "Unless there's some sort of goat related issue." A small glint of amusement shone in his eyes, "How much you wanna bet they're giving Day a run for their money again?"
"not more than usual as you can tell." charlie says, glancing down at her legs. she's had worse days at the farm washing animals, which usually consisted of the animals not being washed and her being covered in mud either way. she lifts her fingers crossed when xavier tells her there is some hope of an early finish "if you jinx it, you're buying me a beer next time we go out." she says, obviously teasing as she closes the door of the stable once the horse was safely in. charlie looks at him, lips pursed together like a toddler trying not to laugh at the mentions of any goat issues "now that you say that..." she looks through the barn doors, like she would be able to see anything happening with how big the ranch was "twenty bucks?" she asks, turning her attention back to xavier.

Sadie had decided approximately six minutes after arriving at the Rhythm & Waves open mic night that live music was scientifically proven to make people hotter. There was simply no other explanation for the energy around the festival grounds right now; string lights glowing overhead, music spilling from both stages at once, strangers swaying with drinks in hand like theyâd all wandered accidentally into the same coming-of-age movie. She leaned against the side of one of the bars with a cocktail sheâd chosen entirely because the bright blue color looked fun, festival wristband sliding down her arm every time she gestured dramatically toward the stage.
âSee, this is exactly how people develop crushes on musicians with absolutely no survival instincts.â The brunette announced as someone nearby finished an aggressively emotional acoustic cover to roaring applause. âOne man sings into a microphone under mood lighting and suddenly everyoneâs like 'thatâs my husband now.'â Sadie took another sip of her drink before narrowing her eyes thoughtfully toward the lineup board. âAlso, open mic nights are terrifying because there are only ever two possibilities: either you witness the next indie superstar before they make it big⌠or a guy named Brandon performs seven uninterrupted minutes of emotional warfare while maintaining direct eye contact with the crowd.â The woman let that marinate in the air for a moment. âAnd honestly? I support both.â
this was definitely charlie's scene to say the least. the music, the vibes, the people she doesn't remember seeing before blurring in between the familiar faces. it's exactly where everyone should be with the way the weather has been warming up. she brings her beer to her lips, nodding her head in approval at the singer wrapping up their set. however, her attention quickly shifts to the person next to her speaking. in a desperate attempt to answer quicker, charlie almost chokes on her drink, but she is quick to recover.
"i mean-" she looks at the stage again "isn't this the perfect place to catch a crush?" she asks, looking around them. her attention turns back to the other, nodding her head a bit too enthusiastically "so is that your husband?" she's teasing a bit, questioning about the guy getting off the stage now. the next words that come out of the girls mouth make her laugh, a bit too loud probably, but the rest of the music spilling from the stages around them drowns it enough "what did brandon do to you? you know, the chances of one of them being called brandon is high." charlie points out, but the image that was painted is enough to make her grimace as she drowns the feeling with another swing of her beer "definitely generous with the support..."

charlie debated about this for the whole walk to the bakery. she debated stopping by the cafe or even the supermarket for a subpar carrot cake that wouldn't quite hit the spot. heck maybe even asking a friend if they were willing enough to bake her the cake. with a big sigh, she pushes through the door of the bakery, smile wide on her lips "hey! how are you?" she asks, making her way quickly to the till and eyeing the available options of baked sweets on display.
with: vada bregmann, @k1tschs location: lois & found
"but no, i'm being serious." charlie speaks as she looks through a set of hanged clothes to pretend to be busy. as if she wasn't thereto just speak with vada "i was actually thinking of hosting another party later this month, but i don't know if i should pick a theme or not." she hums, pulling a navy blue dress from the rail and putting it against her body while turning to vada, as if asking for her opinion "it's too dark isn't it? or not dark enough? i can't tell with these lights."
with: xavier de zilva, @offkeykisses location: bianchi farm
charlie's very vividly struggling to keep the smile off her face making her way back to the horse stables with one of the mare's in hand. yes, she is covered in water and maybe mud and that's probably horse shampoo in her hair but it was warm and nice and her ass wasn't freezing off anymore. "i think she was the last one of the day." she tells xavier as she walks past him, a pep in her step visible as she heads to the mare's enclosure.
with: riley preston, @grxndvoile location: harvey's market
"this is stupid." she mutters under her breath as he specific jar of sauce just slips past her fingers and disappears further back in the shelf. "bullshit." charlie scoffs, almost stomping her foot as she steps back to try and see the stupid jar. she's tall, taller than average, why can't she reach? she goes on her tip toes again but now she can barely brush her fingers against it. if only she wasn't so keen on having pasta for dinner... so she does the only thing that makes sense, turn to the only other person in the isle with her "hey- sorry to bother, can you give me a hand please?"

starter:Â charlie ( @stup1d4u ) location: shirley's diner, day after the fight
"The rumours are true," he starts, hissing in pain as he slides into the booth opposite her, "the dumbass who got his shit rocked outside the movie theatre was me." Winter had made light work of all the blood, but his lip has since split again, and the bruises have really started to blossom overnight. "But as you can see, I'm fine," he looks and feels like shit, but he isn't about to tell her that without a little prodding, "my ego took the biggest beating." Which is somewhat true, at least. His whole body aches but it's nothing compared to his heart. "Anyway, what'sâ What's new with you?"
"i thin i could put two and two together." charlie says with a raised brow as if captain obvious didn't just slide into the empty seat across from her. however, it still felt a bit surreal to hear todd admit it. she scans his face closely, openly grimaces at the bruises that are still there and looking worse than she would like to admit "so.. fine, but ego bruised? yeah, okay." she says, rolling her eyes and handing him a menu "what did you do this time?" charlie asks, arms folding over her chest as she very obviously and on purpose ignores his attempt to change the topic.
âwell, if you ever want to spend time with one, you can always take care of cerberus for a day. or babysit for an hour or something, if you want,â she stated, glancing his way with a small smile. âhe always loves company anyway.â her eyes turned back to the two year old dog, happily running toward the ball before bringing it back to danny. âif you were able to get one now, what breed would you want?â
"for real?" the suggestion surprised danny. a very dangerous idea, what if he wanted to get a dog after taking care of cerberus... he looks from layla to cerberus, before leaning down to at least try and take the ball from the dog's mouth, turning into something like a tug of war "i really don't know. i like big dogs, always wanted a german shepherd but i don't think i have the time to properly take care of it, enrichment and all."
