with  a  soft  chuckle,  vada  says,  "  sure,  babe.  lead  the  way.  "  she  steps  inside  and  follows  dakota  up  to  her  room,  her  expression  lighting  up  at  the  mention  of  her  open  mic  night  performance.  "  yeah?  "  she  murmurs  playfully,  her  eyes  staying  on  dakota  the  entire  time  as  she  watches  her  step  closer.  as  much  as  she’d  love  to  hear  more  about  it,  she’s  not  really  in  the  mood  to  talk  right  now.  when  their  lips  finally  meet,  she  slides  a  hand  up  to  the  back  of  dakota’s  neck,  holding  her  gently  as  she  pulls  her  closer,  deepening  the  kiss  and  letting  herself  get  lost  in  the  moment.

in  all  honesty,  vada  knows  she  should’ve  just  walked  away.  keeping  this  conversation  going  with  daphne  isn’t  doing  either  of  them  any  good,  and  as  much  as  she  deserves  the  criticism  coming  her  way,  she  isn’t  the  type  to  just  take  it  either.  she  stares  at  daphne  for  a  moment  too  long,  a  scoff  slipping  past  her  lips.  "   i  didn’t  know  you  actually  cared  about  me  like  that.  you  feel  bad  i  might’ve  got  nothing  out  of  fucking  your  husband,  daph?  "  then,  a  beat.  "  oh,  sorry,  ex  -  husband  . . .  wait,  he’s  actually  still  your  husband  at  the  time.  "  sometimes  she  should  really  learn  when  to  shut  the  fuck  up.  a  fake  sigh  leaves  her  before  she  goes  on,  "  well,  i  guess  you’re  right.  maybe  i  just  do  this  shit  for  the  love  of  the  game.  too  bad  i’ve  quit  it,  though.  i  don’t  really  go  for  married  men  anymore.  "  not  that  it’s  something  she  makes  a  habit  of,  but  there’s  no  point  in  denying  it  when  daphne’s  already  decided  that’s  the  kind  of  person  she  is.

that  mission  isn’t  going  well,  clearly,  which  is  why  vada  hasn’t  brought  it  up  in  a  while.  not  on  purpose,  of  course.  "  right,  about  that,  "  she  begins,  taking  a  sip  of  her  coke  to  wash  the  food  down.  "  i’m  not  even  gonna  lie  to  you,  babe,  but  i  think  i  might’ve  fumbled  her.  "  well,  she’s  not  entirely  sure  the  whole  you’ve  been  sleeping  with  my  brother  thing  is  a  dealbreaker  for  kara,  but  it  certainly  looks  like  one.  "  she  didn’t  seem  very  happy  to  find  out  i’d  fucked  her  brother,  "  she  tells  avani  with  an  easy  shrug.  "  i  mean,  she  never  told  me  she  wouldn’t  sleep  with  me  over  it,  but  you  know.  i  can  fucking  tell.  "

vada  tilts  her  head  slightly  at  him,  another  scoff  slipping  out.  "  so  you  finally  grew  the  fuck  up,  "  she  says,  a  pause  hanging  before  she  adds,  "  who  would’ve  thought.  "  at  his  next  words,  though,  she  couldn’t  help  but  grimace.  on  one  hand,  she  knows  he’s  probably  just  trying  to  get  a  rise  out  of  her.  on  the  other  . . .  what  the  fuck?  "  right,  as  if  that  makes  it  any  different.  and  what  the  fuck  is  that  supposed  to  mean  anyway?  "  she  doesn’t  really  see  the  point  in  him  telling  her  all  that,  since  she's  already  decided  she's  not  sticking  around  for  his  stupid  little  storytime.  "  good  on  you  that  moms  fucking  love  you?  you  want  a  fucking  round  of  applause  or  something?  "

once  winnie  walks  off,  she  pulls  out  her  phone  and  texts  lily,  asking  where  the  hell  she  is  —  mostly  just  to  be  dramatic.  it’s  not  like  she’s  in  any  rush,  and  she  doesn’t  really  mind  talking  to  winnie  if  she’s  got  nothing  better  going  on.  a  grin  spreads  across  her  face  the  moment  winnie  comes  back  with  her  coke,  even  more  when  she  spots  lily  arriving  at  the  same  time.  it  fades  almost  instantly,  though,  as  whatever  she  hears  makes  her  scrunch  up  her  face  in  response.  "  ugh,  i  hate  it  when  couples  wear  matching  shit.  it’s  so  fucking  stupid.  "  call  vada  a  hater,  but  there’s  nothing  cute  about  it  at  all.  she  shakes  her  head,  trying  to  push  the  thought  away  as  she  looks  over  at  lily.  "  no,  babe.  i’ve  only  ordered  a  drink  because  i  thought  you  might’ve  taken  longer,  but  thank  god  you’re  finally  here.  we’re  ready  to  order,  right,  lils?  "  she  glances  at  winnie  with  a  smile  before  turning  back  to  lily.  "  you  go  first.  get  whatever  you  want,  babe.  i’m  paying.  you’ve  already  had  enough  shit  to  deal  with  today  anyway.  here,  drink  up.  "  with  that  being  said,  she  slides  her  coke  toward  the  other  blonde.  @yourcinluv

to  be  fair,  vada  doesn’t  really  think  she  has  the  right  to  judge  people  for  the  way  they  write  songs.  most  of  what  she  knows,  she’s  picked  up  on  her  own.  she  only  went  to  a  few  songwriting  camps  during  her  time  at  her  previous  label,  but  that  was  about  it.  nothing  about  using  sheet  music  to  write  songs,  though.  at  the  mention  of  avani,  it  all  suddenly  clicks.  "  well,  fuck.  maybe  you  should  listen  to  her.  i  mean,  her  shit  absolutely  slaps,  so  she  must  be  doing  it  right.  "  that,  and  she  likes  avani  enough  to  stand  by  her  choices,  even  if  it  seems  like  she’s  completely  against  the  idea  at  first.  "  okay,  but  do  you  really  want  her  to  go  easy  on  you?  sometimes  you’ve  gotta  learn  shit  the  hard  way,  win.  if  she’s  so  up  your  ass,  then  prove  her  wrong.  show  her  you  can  fucking  do  it.  how  hard  is  it  to  use  sheet  music  to  write  a  song  anyway?  "  

somehow,  she  didn’t  expect  the  compliment  to  be  thrown  back  at  her  like  that.  "  thank  you,  "  she  says,  clearly  amused.  "  that’s  new,  though.  people  usually  just  find  me  hot.  "  not  exactly  the  kind  of  thing  most  people  would  say  out  loud,  but  vada  has  never  been  one  to  think  twice  before  she  speaks.  at  the  mention  of  tabby  talking  about  her,  her  eyes  light  up  almost  instantly.  "  she  did?  "  vada  asks,  a  grin  tugging  at  her  lips.  "  well,  i  hope  you’ve  only  heard  good  things  about  me.  "  for  the  record,  she  couldn't  care  less  if  people  talked  shit  about  her.  she  highly  doubts  tabby  would  have  anything  bad  to  say,  though  she  wouldn't  really  blame  her  if  she  did.  vada  knows  she  can  be  a  handful  sometimes.  she  waits  until  jackie  finishes,  a  brow  lifting  at  the  question  that  follows.  "  nothing,  really.  you  wanna  hang  out  with  me  or  something?  "
