do you guys like it when I draw will wood be honest
you think it’s all fun and games and gay marriage not being legalized yet when you’re reading ancient fanfic but then you get blindsided by a fucking slur and you really have to take stock
Mmmmmm I just had another big "straight girls don't do that" moment and no one to talk to about it..... mmmmmmmmmcoolcoolcool
And again! Arghhh
Although actually this led to me asking my crush out for tea/coffee, so we'll see what happens... I feel like I need to beg my repressed high-school self for forgiveness

I hate it when I have a problem and the answer really *is* "fix your sleep schedule, do some exercise, leave the house, and drink water" like fuck offffff I don't wanna
leave the house for the first time in three days against my own desires and feel like both the soaking wet cat covered in flea medication and the owner struggling in the tub with it
the genuine human experience is to be both animal and owner
“Glimpsing at the seabed through the water and the complexity of the light within, at a soothing southern sea.” By Shigeko Inoue (2002).
Born in 1945, Inoue studied traditional Japanese and Italian woodblock printing. Her work focuses on nature, transparency and the movement of water.
A bit late for Pride month, but this is my first ever blackwork finish! - pattern by Peppermint Purple by Emotional-Owl637
[ID: cross-stitched progress pride flag with each stripe done in a delicate pattern on a black background. End ID.]
I made a paintbrush today and am absolutely obsessed.
I’ve tried to be as ethical as possible - the fur is from vintage clothing offcuts and the rest of the materials are either foraged or things I already had (dental floss, wood glue).
I’m still figuring out the best method, but if anyone is interested, I can write up what I did.

If you ever find a bruise on your body that you don't remember, it may be that you bumped into someone who was invisible
Tag game! Thanks to @trashpandacraft for tagging me, I think? 😝 I'm cheating and using the same answers from my other sideblog, balmfrost.
Currently reading: nothing, because I'm unable to read and knit at the same time. BUT I did just read Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree, which was delightful (and has turned me into a coffee drinker as well as a tea drinker; it's a problem!).
Favourite colour: I am constitutionally incapable of picking just one, but I love soft greys, deep jewel tones, as well as desaturated jewel tones. I am most often drawn to mint, eucalyptus and sage greens, mauve, amethyst and lavender purples, robin's egg, cornflower and smalt blues and garnet and ruby reds.
Last song: ummmm, title unknown instrumental performed by a busker (name also unknown, sorry) on electric violin with effects pedal to loop and layer; also Tuca Tuca performed by Pink Martini; and also It's Thursday Night performed by the cast of Critical Role.
Last movie: Nimona! And I love it!
Sweet/spicy/savoury: yes (though I am a wuss when it comes to spice, trying to build a tolerance).
Currently working on: knitting the border for a baby blanket for a colleague; writing, working desultorily on The Tales of Bretha Stitchwitch and The Trials of Rowan Queensbane, an original fantasy duology. The knitting is progressing much faster.
Tagging: (with the caveat that you can 100% ignore if you'd rather not participate) @stripeycrayons , @mieraspeller and @witch-of-the-wild-xxx !
I don't have the best working memory, but I don't think I've ever been tagged in one of these (on Tumblr anyway) so I shall participate!
Currently reading:
I'm listening, when I have time, to Old In Art School by Nell Painter, a nuanced journey of what it's like to be a sixty year old black woman with an academic background, choosing to put herself back in school for a bachelor's degree in fine arts. It's funny and frustrating, and I often get mad at her teachers for being casually dismissive of their students' passions.
Favourite colour: hard to choose... fuschia pink? Prussian blue? Neon orange? Raw sienna? There's too many good ones!
Last song: Heal Over by K. T. Tunstall, unless you count the snippet of Love Shack I just heard in the mall
Last movie: Astérix et Obelix, L'Empire de Milieu on Netflix, subtitles on of course, it was so so good!
Sweet/spicy/savoury: yes to all, but if I really had to pick one it'd be savoury.
Currently working on: I'm packing to move, so I really can't be working on much right now, but I have a spinning project (pink three ply corridale) and a crochet project (multi-coloured infinity scarf of double crochet) to tide me over.
Tagging: @i-am-hannahs-regrets and @persianpenname if you want, you don't have to play, but it might be fun!
okok i KNOW i promised I'd cool it with the new print designs since I made 8 of 'em in a fuckin week but like
the fact two seperate folks got it commissioned.....
yall want this as a print, right?
It would cost me an arm and a leg to ship a print to Europe but I NEED THIS I BEG YOU MAKE IT A PRINT
my guy these are sent using POSTAGE it costs you like two euro to get them sent internationally idc if you're in France or Taiwan
(I'll head out to staples first thing to get a hi-res scan, this bitch oughta be etsy ready within 24 hours)
kay heading out to do scans and digital cleaning and stuff, with luck this'll be ready for sale in a few hours
okay first of all: bad news, I miscalculated the conversion, stamps fees to international shipping actually cost around €4.20, not two euro.
good news, it's allll ready! you can buy 'em at this link here for ten canadian bucks apiece!
Okay so I did some research, very basic research, on the user base of tumblr and how many of us there are.
There are at least 300 million unique visitors worldwide on this site. Over 500 million blogs.
Listen. Tumblr is $30 million in debt. This is Super easy for us to solve.
If each user gifts one blog crabs, which costs slightly over $3, that would be roughly $600 million at least. Far more than enough to get Tumblr out of the red zone.
If we want tumblr to stay afloat and not change something as integral about their operating system, we need to show them they can be profitable without reducing themselves to common social media sites. What we have here is special. It is different. We are the social media site people run to when theirs collapses and for good reason.
If we want this to work, we have to make it work. We can even make it into a game. Just how long can we outlast the other social media sites?
Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying.
It needs to be a holiday. Pick a date a few weeks from now, and just make it Crab Day. Maybe a Saturday as a lot of people are paid on Fridays. Just in case this post becomes more popular than any I've had before, lets set the date as the last Saturday in July (which for us in 2023 will be July 29th.)
On July 29th, gift as many crabs as you can without breaking the bank. Post crab memes if you cannot afford a crab.
Tumblr can pull this off. Tumblr likes doing things like this.
Guys there's an account for this now @crab-day-counter

can you read in your dreams?
yes, the letters are the same as they are in reality
yes but the letters are symbols that don't look familiar
no, the letters are too weird to comprehend
no, I don't read books in my dreams
no, I don't dream
clicky clicky show me the - ah.... ticky?
mysterious last option for 'none of the above Imma tell you about it in the tags
I was just watching a piece on lucid dreaming and remembering an old animated Batman episode where he realized he was dreaming because none of the books had words he could read in them.
I read books in my dreams all the time.
Hence tumblr poll time. Please reblog for sample size. I'm seriously curious if reading in dreams is A Thing or not, especially on a site that has a high ratio of people who tap their imagination heavily.
thinking about all the “small” art that’s ever existed. songs that were only ever sung in one village. stories written by children that got lost in the shuffle. personal paintings that didn’t survive the test of time. how they affected the lives of just a few, but still existed, still mattered to someone.
this is not a sad post!!!! this is a celebration!!!!! art is part of the human condition!!!!!!! we were born to create and share!!!!!!!!!!!
BF and I were just talking about how there must have been, in ancient times, just after we harnessed fire, people who put on shadow puppet plays. And some of those people, just as some shadow puppet performers today, would have been astonishingly good at their job. And it's so ephemeral, just firelight and a favorable surface like a rock face, cave wall, or stretched hide, and the motion of human hands.
We have always made art. And the overwhelming majority of it has been "small" art. Almost nothing lasts. Almost nothing. That doesn't mean it meant nothing.
