imagine being a film director and constantly meeting people who say "oh i love movies! i watch the sound of music every day. i hate julie andrews and musical numbers though so i just mute the movie whenever she's talking or there's a song and invent my own dialogue about the italian mob"

and if you suggested they should maybe try watching a mob movie they got really mad and defensive and complained that you weren't letting people just enjoy movies the way they liked and that some of their absolute best memories of movies were muting the sound of music and looking out of their window and seeing a beautiful bird. and if you ventured that perhaps this was something they could do without having to have the sound of music playing on their tv while they ignored it they explained that they were just already familiar with watching the sound of music so it was just easier to do it this way
