the thing about the spider-verse films is that they’re so clearly filled with LOVE for comics as a medium and the characters that reside therein, which is something u absolutely do not feel in most of the movies that belong to a Certain cinematic universe. and that’s always been so annoying to me, like what’s the point of adapting stories from a medium that u have no love for and that u are constantly trying (and failing) to prove you are somehow above! soulless. so it’s very nice to watch a superhero movie where it’s like yeah this is about comics! this is about comic book characters and conventions and history and art and storytelling. it’s super nice that u can feel that sense of appreciation just emanating from every frame :’-)

i love love love hearing non-comic ppl talk about superheroes. it’s so fascinating from an outside perspective like these are just guys that they occasionally see on the big screen. the decades worth of prior history that these characters have had just do not exist to them. meanwhile i am neck deep in obscure lore and having prophetic dreams that do not come to pass. we are leading two very different lives.

talking about comics canon is like. this is true. this used to be true but isn’t anymore but everyone still acts like it’s true bc it makes for a more interesting story. this is TECHNICALLY true but hasnt been referenced for so long that, practically, it is untrue. this is arguably true but presenting that as certainty is misleading and ignores the nuances of individual interpretation.
