Edit: the title for this comic is âPuzzle Ratâ this oneâs a few days late due to having a lot of doctors appointments sorry itâs  just 9 pages, and about some rats⌠itâs more symbolic than anything really

I need those people to understand that Penelope waiting for Odysseus was a fight for autonomy. She wanted to remain his wife, she wanted not to marry any of those suitors, she fought against an entire society to retain that very autonomy that they spent several years trying to steal from her by insisting (and even threatening) that she must remarry. Trying to act as if Penelope was forced to wait for Odysseus is once again another attempt at woke feminism wherein you completely take away a female character's voice and try to act as if the replacement you draped over it is 'more feminist' despite you literally silencing a woman.

people are always like "Oh a vampire wouldn't get horny while drinking someone's blood, that's like getting horny while eating a sandwich" and like man have you never had a really good fucking sandwich?
The sandwich i had for lunch didnt moan and scream and squirm against my body and then become limp and pliable when i was done now did it

tbh Iâve always found it very funny that Elrond is like âthereâs no point bringing Glorfindel on the quest, even though heâs a balrog-slayer. You wonât need balrog-slayersâ and then thirty pages later they run into a balrog
#and they couldâve really benefited from having a glow in the dark elf in moria (via @emyn-arnens)
obsessed by the implication that glorfindel is bioluminescent
#most elves arenât #just glorfindel #dwarves on the other hand ARE bioluminescent #but itâs in a spectrum that elves and men and orcs canât see in #hobbits can see in that spectrum fine #for better mushroom hunting #but they think itâs rude to point out that one of their party members is glowing #and so the dwarves have no idea the hobbits notice (via @mandaloriandy)
The first night Bilbo camped with the company he very nearly said something about it, but, having no idea what dwarves are and thinking it might be rude, he kept the observation to himself and decided that dwarves must be some kind of fungus. It improved his estimation of them most incredibly, and was, in fact, one of the observations he was most keen to pass on when he got back, seeing as howâeven if it didnât quite make him respectable, per seâit at least provided a valuable new addition to hobbitsâ mushroom-lore, which no one (not even a certain few silver-spoon possessing relatives) could fault him for.
#anyways itâs common knowledge in the shire that dwarves are actually just a kind of mushroom#but no one says anything#because they think (seeing as how the dwarves havenât brought it up themselves) it would be rude (via @willowcrowned)
My partner, reading this over my shoulder: âIt never ceases to amaze me when Tolkein fans write meta that goes off in really bizarre directionsâ
Me: âThese books are 70 years old, everything normal to say about them has been said; if youâre gonna say anything new about it, itâs gonna have to be weirdâ
bluh bluh let women be feminine WHATEVER but it kills me that while adaptations of Athena often leave out how genderblurry her presentation of herself and her form is over the course of the odyssey IS, sheâs both strongly linked to the world of war and to internal domestic works of clothes and weaving which in the odyssey manifest as directly noted links to storytelling trickery and cunning. So it kills merchant Athena is rarely shown in the many incarnations of gender age and class she takes the form of across the odyssey but it also kills me that while sheâs rarely shown with her armor and helm in adaptations sheâs âŚ. Also rarely shown in outfits that make manifest her expertise in weaving and clothing as well, which would include things like a lot of fabric, many folds, designs and patterns and layers. Modern adaptations tend to portray Aphrodite as âthe goddess of love and beautyâ and then relink beauty to a modern idea of âfashionâ but I think Athena is far more powerfully linked to what we might consider âfashionâ today in terms of the clothes themselves. Let Athena wear couture
i feel like iâm cursed forever but other than that iâm doing alright
In love with this random guy who had a lock slapped on his storage unit for not paying its rental and not only did he ignore management and took his stuff out without paying, but also chose to steal the lock itself and send it to the LockPickingLawyer along with a confession letter
@theoutcastrogue
cant believe you didnt include the full sentence
People always focus on the "lockpicking" part of his name and ignore that the lockpicking lawyer is, indeed, a lawyer, and can tell you exactly which crimes you committed in getting this lock to him

i like "social ergonomics" bc like yeah. furniture is usually made in a way that's like "we think this is probably what is needed for a human to immediately perform any given task" and often we are wrong about what types of furniture or spaces will have a detrimental long term impact on our bodies. ergonomics ideally looks at the evidence of the impact on bodies and then works backwards from there to come up with design.
social ergonomics should mean looking at social structures and analyzing the outcomes they have re: human welfare, and then taking that information back to the design board and redesigning things to hurt people less.
this should also be a zine. someday. but that would require me being able to sit upright
My partner is a game designer. He crafts experiences intended to elicit specific behaviors from thousands of strangers as his full time job. He often looks at social structures from this perspective in his free time and we talk about it a lot. and hoo boy are a lot of our systems not doing what they are officially meant to do.
i am thinking about this ALL of the time. maybe I should also be a game designer
if youâre genuinely interested in game design you should check out Radiator Yangâs game The Tearoom (NSFW, unless you work at the Sucking Off Dudeâs Guns factory).
I realize itâs weird to show up on someoneâs post to say âyou like game design. Have you played this game about giving head in a bathroom?â but itâs a really thoughtfully made game (see the artistâs statement, which is also NSFW) that is also about the effects of surveillance on communities. when, after about half an hour of play, I realized what mindset the game had deliberately cultivated in me, I had to turn off my computer and stare at the ceiling for ten minutes. and thatâs Game Design, to me
oh thank you for that link to the artist's statement about this game, that was FASCINATING
