Lesbian Holiday Movies Perfect for the Hallmark Channel
i honestly still think that 2013 tumblr when it was basically just an open source skill-sharing platform for people making gifs was far more radical at least in execution than tumblr is now when weāre all fighting over whether or not some white person represents us properly or not. in 2013 i essentially mastered photoshop (which i downloaded for free) in 3 or 4 months thanks to the combined efforts of people sharing their skills resources feedback and experience and i ended up using those skills to get into art shows and eventually art schools. i really think it would be a more fruitful use of all of our time if we accepted that mainstream media will almost never truthfully represent our lives and focusing on building the skills to make media of our ownā¦look at already existing media as guideposts for what to do or what not to do rather than taking it as likeā¦doctrine

Anyway if youāre from the US and you ever wanted to know what tumblr feels like from a non-USAmerican perspective (please note that the rest of the world is not a monolith either and none of these apply without exception):
Everybodyās talking about brands and stores youāve never seen in real life. You generally assume they exist, but they might as well be one giant prank the rest of the internet is in on.
You find a post that just sounds wrong. It makes no sense. Itās like OP lives in a weird alternate reality. 9/10 times, itās just some USAmerican Thing.
Youāre still not entirely sure how much an inch is. Or a foot. Or even how many of the former there are in the latter. You maybe know your height in feet and inches.
You have no idea how much a pound is. Youād also like to know how the fuck pound shortens to lbs.
What the fuck is āmilitary timeā
Somebody talks about some legal process or something similar. They donāt mention which countryās legal system this pertains to. You know anyway.
People talk about politics. None of it pertains to you. Many posts contain guilt tripping. āHow can you not care about this?? Why wonāt you reblog this?? People need to know this about x candidate for y position!ā Youāre busy trying to stay on top of the political landscape in your own country.
You pick up some random slang from the internet. Monkey see monkey do. Youāre called racist. You didnāt know it was AAVE. You learnt it from black letters on white background, not from the mouths of people whose faces you could see. How would you have known? You try to unlearn it.
People tell you that you must publicly denounce Chick-fil-A or youāre homophobic. You donāt even know what a Chick-fil-A is.
People say you donāt know LGBTQ+ history. What they mean is you donāt know USAmerican LGBTQ+ history. Nobody cares about your countryās history.
Youāre ācalled outā on using an āoffensiveā term. Itās (a direct translation of) a completely harmless word where you live.
People expect you to have an idea of how far apart 2 USAmerican states are. You barely know geography past your countryās immediate neighbors.
You randomly switch between British and American spellings. Nothingās real and there are no rules.
People talk about multiple hour car rides and you get twitchy just thinking about it. You suddenly understand why USAmerican cars are so big.
Somebody talks about school shooting drills. You only ever had fire alarm drills.
You see a cool statistic. The studyās only about the US. Itās unfortunately of no use to you.
People misuse/misspell words and names from your native language. Itās tiring.
(You feel sorry for the French. Nobody should be allowed to mangle the word déjà vu like that.)
Youāre still not over the fact that USAmerican school children are supposed to say that pledge thing every morning. Youāre never getting over that.
You still donāt know why the men are fresh or what the fuck a sophomore is.
Who the fuck pays up first and then fills up gas??? Thatās made up, right??
Everybody has a weird obsession with some comfort food youād never even heard of before you signed up here.
Fellow non-USAmericans, please add anything else you can think of.

the year is 2012.
I have two tabs open. one is tumblr. I am 160 posts back on my dashboard - I have made it back to the place I left off the night before.
satisfied, I open the second tab to pull up a post-avengers fanfic. everyone lives together in stark tower - each of them has their own floor. for no explained reason, loki shares thorās. no one questions that he has not been arrested. the team has friday evening movie nights. at breakfast, thor eats all of tonyās pop tarts.
I am content.

getting over your hatred for pink is self-care

Call me the dreamer
Headās in the clouds
What must go up always comes down
I still believe
This was always here for me
This was always meant to be
I think itās deeply, deeply sad when I watch a video on YouTube and a woman says, āIām having a no makeup day/itās important to have no makeup days/I didnāt feel like doing anything todayā¦. So I just put concealer under my eyes and on my zits and evened my complexion and did my brows and a little bit of mascaraā.
Like their idea of not wearing makeup is⦠wearing makeup. Itās disturbing. I wish these women werenāt taught that the ādefaultā of womanhood is still covering your imperfections
or maybe⦠they just enjoy wearing makeup? they feel better with it on? why do we assume women who enjoy wearing makeup or prefer to always have some on āhate themselvesā or ādonāt valueā themselves. let women wear makeup who want to and let women who donāt want to have a bare face in peace. jesus fucking christ.
without fail - WITHOUT FUCKING FAIL - whenever theres a post like this, theres people like you in the comments, and i have to say, im fucking sick of it. i dont know if it stems from some sort of defensive instinct, some feeling of being attacked because you wear makeup and this post criticizes (an aspect of) makeup, but either way, you show up in the comments like reading comprehension lacking little roaches.
this post DOES NOT SAY women who like makeup should feel guilty.
it DOES NOT SAY every woman who wears makeup hates themself.
IT SAYS THAT WEARING MAKEUP - SOMETHING THAT TAKES UP MONEY, TIME AND EFFORT - SHOULD NOT BE THE NORM FOR WOMEN, TO THE DEGREE THAT āNO MAKEUPā IS DEFINED AS CONCEALER, BROWS, MASCARA AND BB CREAM
THERE ARE WOMEN OUT THERE WHO ARE SCARED TO BE SEEN WITHOUT MAKEUP BY THEIR PARTNERS, WHO SLEEP WITH MAKEUP ON BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID THEIR SIGNIFCANT OTHER WILL NOT FIND THEM BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT MAKEUP
YOU CANNOT TELL ME THESE WOMEN āENJOY MAKEUPā IN THE WAY SOMEONE WOULD ENJOY KNITTING, THERE ARE MANY LAYERS TO THIS, AND SOCIETAL PRESSURE, REWARD AND EXPECTATIONS *ARE* RELEVANT. YOU CANNOT SAY OTHERWISE WITHOUT LYING TO YOURSELF.
Going without makeup shouldnāt be brave, it shouldnāt be an emotional challenge. But it is for a lot of people.
I have seen girls doing no makeup challenges who fucking⦠Got upset and cried. Just having their bare, natural faces without products on it has become so expected of them that is induces distress and anxiety to be without it. They feel judged.
Thatās fucked up.
Makeup as an item, as a thing⦠It is nether good, nor bad, it is just a tool. But a culture of makeup is manipulative and warping the way a lot of women view themselves and how they view other women.
That is not empowerment, itās not āchoice feminismā⦠Itās a culture designed to exploit women emotionally and financially until they feel socially inept when not wearing makeup.
so who else gets irrationally afraid and embarrassed about their interests being known to people in real life
#iām not embarrassed but#i hate the thought of having to guard what i love#and defend any of my interests to others#people are the worst i donāt want them to know me
