I have heard this interpretation before and it is really interesting to me. I wonder if it could also be influenced by Possum Springs’ supposed gas leaks that are making people hallucinate things?

It would kinda explain why there’s seemingly no racism between the animal races, in a game as political as Night in the Woods.

It also works really well for Mae’s perspective as this is her desperately trying to give meaning to things, as a lot of the characters do represent the traits of their animals.

The issue I kinda have with this theory is that sometimes characters interact with their body in ways that wouldn’t make sense for a human, e.g. Gregg putting cups on his ears.

This is pretty much impossible for humans to do.
