THE DEVELOPMENT OF NECROPHILIC PARAPHILIAS IN YOUNG WOMEN PART I

Rationale

Paraphilias are categorised as abnormal sexual behaviours brought about by extreme sexual fantasies that are perpetual in nature and have adverse effects on personal, social, and career aspects of life (WebMD eds., 2024). Some paraphilias are more unconventional than others, ranging from sexual attraction to atypical objects or situations, to living targets such as children, animals, or non-consenting adults (Brown, G. R., 2023). Understanding the underlying causes of paraphilias may help with the process of rehabilitation of heavily affected individuals.

Necrophilia and death-related paraphilias such as autassassinophilia and erotophonophilia are scarcely studied due to the rarity of such sexual behaviours in individuals, and even rarer are those who are willing to openly discuss them. Statistically, a large majority of reported necrophiles are male, and with the minuscule number of necrophiliacs, necrophilic women are seldom studied (Dryden-Edwards, R., & Kumar, K., 2024).

Through bridging the gap in information, not only does the likelihood of providing proper aid to women who are often overlooked in research significantly increase, but also, the less unknown the topic is, the easier it is for affected individuals to reach out and seek help; ergo, the possible evolution of a society that more readily delivers support due to the thorough comprehension of paraphilias with a larger scope of specimens other than just men. Additionally, creating a safer environment for adolescents, teens, and pre-teens to safely open up about sex in order to identify symptoms of paraphilias early on and help them navigate sex and further steps moving forward.
