have i gone insane enough that i feel compelled to try and write 70s loumand with side daniel stalking im not sure but it remains frighteningly possible

honestly the unreliable narrator and memory things and how the camera actually functions and what its showing us in iwtv is kind of madness inducing if you think about it too long like dont be afraid just start the tape is like one of the best episodes but also the way it uses memory is sort of baffling if you think about it too long because in some ways the idea that ur gonna be able to construct the perfect accurate exact truth of some event in the past that has been carved out of their minds thru drugs near death experiences memory wiping and the passage of time becomes absurd and to some degree that they can reconstruct such a specific and clear image of that time almost undermines the entire function of memory and like the kind of violation that removal of memory is and deeply unsettling reality that you can often never truly remember all the details of a trauma that allows obvious closure the fact you truly will never ever know the truth and whatever like genuinely where is the camera coming from whos mind is this or is it the objective view of the past only the audience is privy to and i think the constant returns to daniel and louis hampers the ability to at least explain it away that this is maybe a sort of collective recreation that may or may not be true or that we are slipping away to know things that they may not know and leave it tactfully ambiguous idk

i find it quite surprising how many people are yearning for daniels pushback to lestats narrative to get back to the structure of the previous seasons i do think daniel providing a specificity of audience was useful in seasons 1 and 2 and is an important conceit for attempting unreliable narrators in a visual medium but i think i have a very different view of the strengths and purpose of an unreliable narrator function than most other viewers i never enjoyed daniels pushback because i think it to some degree undermines the like the most interesting function of the unreliable narrator and displaces it in favor of seeking some kind of objective truth like this is whats so baffling about all these retcons to me alongside daniels interrogating of the truth of any individual moment louis describes is that the unreliable narrator always tells emotional truths the unreliable narrator tells what is the truth to them and gets you swept up in their view of things something the show never comfortably let happen with louis it always paused to have daniel try to drag us into some idea of objective fact when the emotional truth is the strongest and most distinctive part of an unreliable narrators world you know and lestats narration now is still too like irony poisoned and distant almost allergic to the idea of emotional truth the show is getting further and further from letting us see how the characters truly felt and how that changes their experiences you know and like the show sort of tries to have it both ways that of course louis is trying to dig up memories and things lost to him because of armand but its then also framed as digging up the true emotional truth about his feelings for lestat which feels like we are kind of mixing purposes here like rather than experiences that get radically recontextualized when he realizes the various lies armand was keeping from him that then creates new emotional truths and the bottom falling out on a lot of ways he thought he understood the past creating a new emotional truth for louis to convey and seek to understand the push and pull and arguing over what louis actually feels with daniel feels pointless and overcooking the whole concept and does not allow us or louis to really explore a particular mindset in ways that feel they tell us something

my mean impression of iwtv shipping culture is lestat fans and armand fans like loustat and devils minion respectively so that the other guy can be the perfect receptacle of forgiveness and trauma for their favorite guy and then the louis fans have to work with the weird corners they can carve out of loustat and loumand where they can talk about louis as a fleshed out character and not as someones boyfriend or ex

actually how the hell did devils minion get so big amongst show fans was it really just everyone who was less than enamored with loustat went sicko mode on it like genuinely how is it the most popular ship in the fandom it literally hasnt even happened

it really is so dire how many times they come back to the idea that love redeems an abusive relationship so what makes louis and armands relationship so evil is armand never loved louis and why lestat and louis' relationship is ok is because theres love like genuinely insane recurring theme on abusive relationships in general like ok <3

the new orleans times-picayune advertising department breathing such a sigh of relief that anne rice isnt alive to see this season so they wont be in charge of some kind of full paper advertising campaign litigating lestat characterization and telling rolin jones to die

its just so baffling because it seems like they deeply resent that they have to like deal with the fallout of horribly abusive relationships or like think about the implications of what they wrote but its like literally nobody forced you to make the show just about abusive relationships like this you did this.. this was the adaptational choice you made why are you mad

fully insane theyre gonna drag jacob and assad out for a panel at sdcc like what on earth are they supposed to say they got some of the worst fucking scripts baffling character choices jacob had to be talked into and were sidelined for most of the season like... and tho im sure the majority of fans that turn out for this will be the ones that think this season was a masterpiece or whatever the types of fans that will want to turn out to see jacob or assad specifically probably have not a single good word to say about the season like... is some crazy armand fan gonna get on the mic and tell rolin to kill himself?
