As I check tumblr after being away from it all weekend it feels like issue of Concrete as been made clear. However, it’s personally important to me that I express my apologies as I am the one who responsible for the text written next to her.

I do not associate illiteracy with people of color. That’s just not where my mind goes. Had Concrete been under consideration for an episode, she, like all of the ideas for SU, would have been scrutinized carefully to prevent any careless mistakes like this. It’s a constant consideration to champion love and acceptance in all the episodes we make. But saying this now is meaningless to anyone who was hurt by my words. It’s too late. People make mistakes and I am currently one of those people. 

I can’t undo what I’ve done but I can offer you my sincere apology. I can let you know that I make it a point to learn from my errors even when accidental. And it is my hope that any mistakes I make in the future always end with a step forward in a positive direction. That’s how I can be better. That’s how we can be better.

I’d like to apologize for ever making this joke and thank @transeldritch for explaining why this type of humor is harmful. I’ve just now deleted the original post. I consider myself a devoted ally to the transgender community and creating content that is hurtful to anyone in it is the absolute last thing I’d ever want to do. I will do my best to avoid mistakes like this in the future.

I know I’m late, but this is just ridiculous. You people can’t take jokes.

First of all, if you’re getting deeply offended by a post on Tumblr of a fake text post between two fictional characters from a children’s cartoon show, then I highly recommend that you sit down and rethink your life.

Secondly, I can see how that joke could be considered “offensive”. It’s about transphobia, and anybody who has the fragility of glass would be completely broken by that. I understand that some people get triggered by even the slightest implication of something they somehow feel uncomfortable with. But a joke like the one pointed out in that person’s post shouldn’t be as triggering as it was made out to be.

“Haha, I’m not actually transphobic!” doesn’t equate to “I’m laughing at the fact that every single day of your life is lived in fear that there is someone out there who hates you for being who you are, the way you are, and being an individual who is allowed to express themselves and be who they want to be!”. It should never equal that. A joke’s punchline shouldn’t be poking fun at something serious that affects potentially millions of people. A joke can be related to a serious issue, or based off of it without triggering somebody (I’ll admit that I love Nazi puns, despite the weight of the original issue) but it should never be created to poke fun at it.

But the original joke didn’t do that. I can’t empathize with any of those who were seriously emotionally affected by that joke, and I can’t agree that it was ever harmful. It was poking fun at the people who make those comments, by comparing them to people who nitpick over and worry about the silliest things. Hey, reminds me of someone now that I think about it!

But what do I know? The name “Transeldritch” screams “I AM TRANSGENDER, LOOK AT ME!” to me. Which makes me think that, maybe, this was done for attention. Perhaps they should learn to accept that being trans is nothing special, or anything to brag about. It’s nothing that should be used for attention, it’s something that should be just another aspect of who you are.

I WILL NEVER RELENT. NOT UNTIL WE HAVE SEEN THEM IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER AND MAYBE NOT EVEN THEN.

1. Rose is a homeworld gem (“we can never go home” in Rose’s Scabbard) and yet told Bismuth she was made on Earth??? Hmmmm maybe because taking on a persona as an Earth gem made it easier for gems to get behind her cause instead of feeling like they were trading one Diamond leader for another?

2. Pearl, Holo Pearls, and Sardonyx have been seen wearing pink diamond insignias, if Pink Diamond was bad and Rose shattered her (don’t even get me started on the shattering theory when we JUST saw a whole episode about how Rose was so against shattering she would sacrifice her friends’ lives for it) then WHY would Pearl still have a Pink Diamond insignia on her space suit?!? All clues right now point to Pearl previously belonging to White Diamond, so DONT tell me that Pink Diamond is her automatic setting wHEN SHE’S FROM WHITE DIAMONDS COURT I MEAN LOOK AT HER COLOR SCHEME IN THE ANSWER ITS ALL GREYS AND WHITES… so wHY would she put this EVIL RANDOM Diamonds stuff on her space suit UMMMM it’s because Pink Diamond wasn’t evil or random she was cool as hell and was also Rose? moving on

3. Everything else Jasper has said about Homeworld has been obviously misinformation (she doesn’t know about corruption, she quotes their Social Darwinism ideas about gems that don’t fit in) yet we’re assuming Homeworld told her the TRUE story about her diamond? (also ohmygod my poor wife someone help her. someone stop reading this right now and go help her. HELP HER NOW GoOD GOD PLeAsE)

4. ROSE DOES NOT HAVE POWERS LIKE ANY OTHER QUARTZ SHE CAN GROW PLANT LIFE, AND MANY HAVE THEORIZED PINK DIAMOND WAS IN CHARGE OF GROWING NEW GEM LIFE IN THE KINDERGARTENS

5. ROSE HAS NEVER ONCE USED THE SONIC SPIN MOVE THAT IS A TRADEMARK OF QUARTZ GEMS

6. Something she said in Greg the Babysitter. “Gems burst out of the ground knowing what they’re supposed to be and then that’s what they are. Forever”. Rose has at this point helped all of her comrades deviate from their original purpose but she is still following her predestined function. She’s a diamond, made to be a leader and that’s what she’s always been and she’s still leading the Crystal Gems. That’s why she craved a new human form that would allow her to finally change.

7. And perhaps the most damning piece of evidence, the only gems saved from the corruption song were Garnet and Pearl BC ROSE WAS ABLE TO PROTECT THEM. DO YOU REALLY THINK NO OTHER GEMS ON EARTH MADE DEFENSIVE WEAPONS? BUT ONLY A DIAMOND WOULD HAVE HAD A SHIELD STRONG ENOUGH TO SAVE THEM FROM THE CORRUPTION NUKE! NOT TO MENTION THE TRIANGLE INSIDE OF HER SHIELD’S ROSE INSIGNIA THAT LOOKS VERY SIMILAR TO DIAMOND LOGOS!

Before Garnet was canon people would google rubies and sapphires saying the cut of their gems was similar to the cut on Garnet’s hands. This is a real life Pink Diamond. It looks EXACTLY like Rose’s gem. WAKE UP SNEEPLE.

If you’ve seen any amount of Roman art, it’s likely you’ve come across this handsome fellow before:

Antinous is one of the best known faces (…and other parts) of the ancient world because there were so many statues of him made.

Antinous was the lover of the Roman emperor Hadrian, in the 2nd century CE. Hadrian was very public about his relationship with Antinous, and treated him as more like a spouse than a lover. However, what makes Antinous most famous is probably his early death and Hadrian’s public and intense mourning. Antinous drowned in the Nile river (under unknown circumstances) at the age of 19 when he and Hadrian were in Egypt together. Hadrian took it…badly. Very badly. He had Antinous deified - something that was practically unheard of for someone outside of the royal family and more than a little scandalous - and there was a fairly successful cult of Antinous for the next few decades. He also had a ridiculous number of statues made - I remember hearing once that there were dozens of statues of Antinous found just at Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli. Because of the sheer number of statues many of them of been preserved, meaning we actually have a decent idea what he looked like!

So what the name “Antinous” would have meant to Hugo is beautiful young man who died very young, emperor’s male lover, and minor religious figure. I don’t think it’s hard to see why he’d like the comparison for Enjolras. Antinous has also functioned as an icon of male homosexuality, although I’m not 100% sure whether that would have been the case in the 1830s. I suspect it would have; it’s certainly a thing among the Victorians a few decades later.

So apparently that user who made that disgusting Garnet post is playing the victim and pointed the finger at me in particular. Of course I bet they didn’t mention how they mocked me for being angry about the fact that they wanted to kill my favorite character, talking down to me with  phrases like “aren’t you cute” and treating me like a butthurt ex-follower.
