The Infatuations
Title: The Infatuations Author: Javier MarĂas Genre: Novel Year of Release: 2012 Review: A chilling and brutal murder appears at first glance to be a random act of violence, but over time a more sinister explanation emerges. This writing trope is the premise for The Infatuations, where a man is slaughtered in the streets of Madrid by a stranger. Surprisingly, I wouldnât classify this novel as aâŠ

The Vanishing Futurist
Title: The Vanishing Futurist Author: Charlotte Hobson Genre: Novel Year of Release: 2016 Review: The 1917 Russian Revolution is in many aspects, a fascinating flashpoint in history. The political intrigues, the social upheaval, the academic innovations combined with the fall of a dynasty and widespread violence, and all fast paced â this is a goldmine for writers. What attracted me to thisâŠ

Alice In Wonderland
Title: Alice In Wonderland Author: Lewis Carroll Genre: Childrenâs Fiction (Apparently) Year of Release: 1865 Review: Iâm having to write this review from a combination of old memories and spark notes, seeing as after reading the book as a kid, I hid it in the back of my cupboard where the scary books went, and where I can no longer get into. Alice in Wonderland is not a kids book. It reads likeâŠ

Shantaram
Title: Shantaram Author: Gregory David Roberts Genre: Fiction, Semi-Autobiography Year of Release: 2003 Review: I have an on-again, off-again relationship with Shantaram. Sometimes Iâm certain itâs in the top 5 books Iâve ever read. At other times I think itâs pretentious and narcissistic. I reckon it depends on how Iâm viewing the world that day. Roberts started out his adult life as a poet, andâŠ

honestly I hate when white people visit the caribbean and treat it as a place where everyone is chill and everyone just relaxes and sits on the beach and everything runs on âisland timeâ whatever the fuck that means.Â
living in the islands is fucking hard and poverty is real and tourism isnât doing enough to really help fix the endemic problems that plague the caribbean
like yâalls money is going to big resorts instead of into the local economies usually, and meanwhile these people whose lives you exotify and idealize bc you dont understand what it truly means to live in the caribbean literally have to serve you in order to survive
what kinda neo-colonialist bullshit
This is a very serious problem and anyone interested in the subject should read A Small Place by Jamaica Kincaid!!! Itâs an excellent look at how colonialism persists through the tourism industry.Â

The woman in the pictures above is my beautiful mother on her wedding day 18 years ago.
Upon unboxing what we thought was her wedding dress, we realized that weâve been holding onto the WRONG DRESS for 18 years.
The Cleaning place where my parents had gotten the dress professionally preserved MIXED UP THE ORDERS and gave my Mom the WRONG dress.
This dress was made in the Philippines, along with the shirt my Dad wore to their wedding. My Mom, who was born there, said that her dress was one of the last pieces of her home country that she held on to. And now itâs gone.
Today, on Thanksgiving, (November 26th, 2015) I watched my Mother break down in tears when she realized her wedding dress was lost.
The dress was preserved near Wauconda IL. If you have any idea where her dress may have ended up, or by a slim chance you are the person who has this dress, please contact me. Send me a message.
Even if you donât live in the area, please help me and SIGNAL BOOST THIS. I want to do as much as I can for my mom, and possibly find it.
Thank you for your time.

Boost. Oh, this poor woman! Letâs find her dress!

Deadly Mali hotel attack: âThey were shooting at anything that movedâ
(CNN)Gunmen who raided a Malian hotel shouted âAllahu akbarâ as they sprayed bullets on tables of people who were gathered for breakfast, a witness said.
The attackers did not say a word to anyone as they opened fire Friday morning, employee Tamba Couye said.
They shot at âanything that movedâ as terrified patrons dashed for cover all over the hotel, he said.
By the time Malian and U.N. security forces rushed in and ended the siege hours later, bodies were scattered across the floors of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako.
At least 19 people were killed in the attack, said Olivier Salgado, a spokesman for the U.N. mission in the nation.
Interesting to see how the media seemed to pay a little more attention than usual on this attack, but not because some Malians were either killed or injured. It was because one of the first Mali attack victim was an American and also some foreigners were either killed or held hostage.

PLEASE REBLOG, PEACEFUL PROTESTERS WATER CANNONED IN SOUTH KOREA (14/11/15)
The citizens of South Korea are currently being oppressed with brute force by the government, Please reblog and help spread the word and bring awareness to the current situation
The recap:
Koreaâs current PM, Park Geun hye has proposed to make complete alterations to the nation-wide textbook, consiting of heavily biased views about past events in order to manipulate and warp both history and itâs citizens. The new textbook condemns the Korean independence movement as well as glazing over the dictatorship of her father, erasing the history of thousands who were abused over his dictatoship.
A group of protestors, consisting mainly of uni and young high school students has decided to gather at Gwanghwamun for a PEACEFUL PROTEST (met all regulations, has been reported/notified to the police PRIOR the protest) when all areas leading to the area was cut off by police.
They have since fired WATERCANNONS (WATCH VIDEO) laced with capsaicin/tear gas (X) and oil, blasting at random at protestors AS WELL as ambulances and other volunteers trying to give first aid. A man has been blased in the face and is in critical condition while many others are injured or currently are being brutally mishandled by police. The tear gas used by the government has been notified to consist dangerous levels of capsaicin and 465.75 LITRES has already been spent already in close proximity of the protestors in just few hours. (Korea is also undergoing the worst drought in 40 years. Yay) BUT MOST OF ALL, THE GOVERNMENT IS HEAVILY CENSORING ALL THIS. They have censored the most popular website naver.com, erased all of the news headlines and refused to broadcast the current situation in all national TV news channels. We have no way of communicating without the censorship of the Government without depending on SNS.
Please share and help us from being silenced by this dictatorship.

If hair braiding isnât taught in many beauty schools, why does the government force black women to go (and pay thousands) to get a cosmetology license? Whatâs worse is not doing so could result in a $10,000 fine and a year in prison. Since the 1990s, the Institute for Justice has been fighting for hair braiders â and a new legal showdown in Iowa could be their biggest yet.

âOf Iowaâs 27 cosmetology schools, not one school offers specific coursework on natural hair care for black women or braiding in particular.â
