Trey says he likes hats and he owns multiple, so hats may be a regular part of his non-NRC wardrobe.

He says he would wear mascot-themed caps at theme parks at his little sister’s behest, but they are “definitely not (his) thing.”

He says he knows the he is supposed to “be buttoned up” in his dorm uniform and apologizes for his sloppy appearance, and says that the casual clothes of Vargas Camp are his exact style, though he prefers more muted colors.

Trey describes the “flair” of his New Year’s outfit as being “definitely a bit over the top for (him),” but, “I always feel at home wearing black.”

Trey does not enjoy the Stargazer outfit of the Wish Upon a Star uniform, saying, “Dancing in this getup is embarrassing.” When Deuce compliments him for looking great in it he responds, “Looking good is besides the point.”

Epel gives Trey a black cap with patches and embroidery for his birthday, saying, “I don't know about this bright red apple patch, though... Might be a little too loud for me.”

He explains, “I tend to dress casually when I'm not in my uniform.”

Maybe Trey normally wears Vargas Camp-adjacent clothes (in black and less vibrant colors) when outside the school?

Trey says he has been wearing glasses since elementary school and he has a lot of different pairs. He says, “(I) swap them out for style's sake or when the mood strikes me. It's kinda like changing your wardrobe, in a way. I mean, people call glasses ‘eyewear,’ right?”

Out of all the different glasses that he owns, Trey says that he gets the most compliments when he wears rounded Wellington or oval frames” and “Conversely, more quirky cat-eye or rimless frames don't tend to go over well.” Trey says he has tried half-rim glasses in the past but his mother and sister would complain about how they made him look angry, so he “decided to retire the half rims” in order to keep them from frowning at him every day.

Trey says that he has considered getting contacts, but decided not to after his sister said that he would “look sinister” without them.

Riddle is often ending questions with だい (dai). It does not literally mean anything by itself and can be used to add emphasis, or express curiosity, or express frustration, etc., depending on the context.

Much like "dai," かい (kai) is also a casual way to ask a question and can be used when skeptical or to seek confirmation of something, and Riddle uses it often.

Saying "dai" and "kai" so much is something Riddle has in common with Rook, who says them both just all the time.

Riddle is also often saying よろしい (yoroshii), close to an English equivalent of "acceptable" or "satisfactory" or "okay."

A line that Riddle also says before battles, he will often say "ii dokyo ga oari dane," which is something like "to have some nerve."

Other characters will say variations on "ii dokyo" (usually Vil and Leona), but this full phrase is unique to Riddle.

Riddle is also often saying おわかりだね (o-wakari dane), which means close to "You understand?"

He will often use it when threatening people with a beheading (similar to "If you don't do as I say you know what will happen to you, yes?") but also in lower stakes conversations as well.

There are many words in Twst used for friendship including 友達/友だち/友人、the more slang ダチ and マブ、幼馴染 for childhood friends, 友情 for friendship, and 親友 for best friend!

All of the above were counted in the Friendship Tracker!

There is also another, 学友, which translates closer to "school friend" and was not included, as it carries slightly different nuance:

The difference is relationship context and boundaries!

It is like drawing a line between "associates-due-to-circumstance" and "real" friends and sets emotional distance, choosing to emphasize the context of a relationship, lest someone wrongly assume that there is mutual emotional closeness where there isn't any.

This barrier is more important to some characters than others, with Jamil refusing to refer to anyone as Kalim's friend even though Kalim himself has maybe never said school friend at all, and keeps everyone the same level of just "friend!" (except for Jamil, whom he refers to as "best friend," just once).

It is also the game teaching us relationship dynamics through language as a character development tool rather than having everyone monologue about their personal interpretation of the concept of friendship.

Going up to someone in Briar Valley and saying you are Malleus' "friend," for example, would carry a lot more weight that introducing yourself as his "school friend": the latter narrows the spectrum of your relationship, like Malleus himself does during the Firelit Sky event after Kalim refers to him as a "friend."

Perhaps Kalim does see Malleus as a close, personal friend, and believes that their relationship is not defined by their current circumstances.

Malleus does not seem to share this interpretation of their connection, however, and never once uses the word "friend" to describe anyone at all (as of this post!).

And these interpretations can also vary by character! It all depends on an individual's interpretation of friendship and how heavy they consider the word "friend" to be.

You can use "school friend" and "friend" interchangeably if you are closer to the Kalim spectrum, for example! But several characters in Twst--Malleus, Jamil, Lilia, Cater, etc.--have been shown as drawing this line between "friend" and "school friend," classifying them as two different things according to their personal feelings on friendship :>

Malleus runs from loss and change because he wants to run from the fact that he can feel afraid. To be above his subjects and humans means being above regular vulnerabilities like fear. If he's just like them in this regard, instead of differently flawless and omnipotent enough to be his people's ruler and deliverer, then he's failed at the purpose he was born for, that so many people sacrificed and died for him to be born for. Fear is worse than wickedness because fear is useless.

Malleus has such an interesting and ironic relationship with utility. It's one of my favorite parts about his character because it's both funny and tragic

^ Referring to the multiple instances where he tries to do something helpful/comforting (favors can also show his goodwill and bring people closer to him) using his most defining asset (magic), only for it to backfire awkwardly and disastrously and sometimes leaving others with an even WORSE impression of him (Lantern fire incident in Briar Valley, Spectral Soiree ghost party, Dorm uniform vignette with the housewardens, the entirety of Book 7, almost unleashing thorns to liven up the party venue in his First Birthday Interview... etc.)

"Malleus doesn't make any effort to get along with others" is something fans usually say and in some ways it is true. He does technically work hard to learn what topics or ideas he doesn't know; but even though he wants people to get closer to him, he's not ready to see those prospective companions as EQUALS (because his identity as fae king needs to be defined off superiority and inferiority). That's the one thing he's not yet willing to work with when trying to connect to others

Also only seeing connections as above or below is the reason why Diasomnia has all their miscommunication angst (that caused the events of Book 7 to begin with)

They can't differentiate between completely doing something for someone else/someone else doing everything for you (serving either below or above) VS working alongside someone and WITH them, which is why they keep thinking they need to bear burdens alone and be the one protecting the others to keep being worthy of them. To also bring up what a mutual said about this before: because theyre so close they've probably spent so much time together acting like this, that they think they completely understand what the others want and that they should be content with this relationship

I am facing ~$15k in costs due this month

I've started a gofundme, linked in the title. I'm so sorry to ask this of anyone but I'm at a loss for how to deal with this. My immediate upcoming expenses:

a water bill for almost $3500 dollars, with another one I estimate to be almost $1000 on the way (water leak of 240k+ gallons). I have tried to plead to lower it, but it is controlled through an HOA who refuses to budge. It must be paid on time and in-full. I no longer own this house and lost money in selling it

My car will not start, current unknown cause but likely to be the starter. The car has 200k miles on it and is nearing the end of its life

I have just moved cross-country for a job that may let me go soon (reference the news for context). I am paying to break an old lease, put a deposit on a new lease, and hire movers (saving money by only hiring labor and driving a truck ourselves). Breaking the old lease costs ~$2000, the deposit and first month’s rent on a new place costs $3300; I have not booked any moving help yet but my estimates from research is ~$3500-4000

All relevant proof is included on the gofundme site, and I truly mean it when I say I never wanted to turn to this; I do my best to take care of myself for when times are tough, but this is way too many things at once to have prepared for.
