my last Ray pov fic was about being a young adult coming out of a yearslong depressive period and realizing that you can (and have to) make adult decisions about how your life and even daily routines are gonna go, and without spoiling anything my next Ray pov fic, which will go up in the week as part of a fic exchange, is gonna be about the opposite :) in many ways it’s about moving back home after your first year of college/work/fighting in the Great War/whatever and feeling like youve completely grown up and changed and you’re ready for the next thing but now suddenly you’re back to having to stick to a curfew and you’re fighting with your dad like when you were 15 again.

lastest writing strategy which I have stumbled on by accident is “write into the story exactly what the narrator is feeling, effortfully and nicely like it’s going to stay in, and then take almost all of it out the next day.” honestly really helpful because I get down exactly what I want to get across and so I know what I’m aiming to convey when I pare it down to just the things that the narrator is able to articulate to themselves.

I can’t tell if there’s a taboo on ba’sib romance in Terra Ignota like on the one hand there’s no blood relation (point against the existence of a taboo) but on the other hand bashes are treated as a replacement for nuclear families in a way that closely mirrors an expanded nuclear family more than anything else (point in favor of taboo). And i haven’t seen any examples of ba’sib romance other than Mycroft/Saladin so far (point in favor of taboo) BUT I feel like Mycroft’s the kind of person to bring up the taboo if there was one in a “haha watch me do something edgy” way (point against taboo). but on the other hand he clearly considers Saladin above almost all his other priorities and treats him differently in narration.
