And I love the followup comment:
Lefties cant immediately identify glowies lmaoooo
also I learned about this project calledĀ āqueering the map.ā the idea is that in the past gay neighborhoods and gay spaces were very clearly defined bc it just wasnāt safe to be yourself anywhere else. as lgbt+ people become more visible and accepted many feel that we are losing our connection to those spaces
so every dot on this map is basically someoneās queer experience: coming out, meeting their future wife, seeing another gay man in public for the first time, anything you can think of that truly left a mark on them
it started in Montreal and is primarily English-language with most pins dropped in the US, Canada, and Europe, but there are people all over the world whoāve shared their experiences. itās great to look at places near you but itās also great to see that even people in places you thought were the middle of nowhere are happy with themselves and finding community and living their lives
Itās here and itās SO SWEET?? Just clicking around itās very personal stories, in first person and a lot of them addressed to a specific āyouā, and sooo many in extremely poetic language. It feels like an art installation and itās so beautiful. ;W; Thanks for sharing!!!
⦠thereās also a lot of really silly ones (like gay sharks in the middle of the ocean)
I looked at Jerusalem and immediately found two favorites for entirely different reasons.
Things I found from the queer community of japan:
Itās no secret to the Japanese that Shinjuku nichome is the gay district of Tokyo but about half the pins left there are for the same club in that area named gold finger. Definitely a place to check out if youāre looking to get involved in the Japanese queer community for whatever reason, it seems.
I have a sneaking suspicion this submission is a haiku when written in Japaneseā¦
This guy got the scenic view I guess
Is this how people feel while reading deep romantic poetry because wow Iām moved.
Honestly the best feeling is learning weāre not as alone as weāve been led to believe
These are all super poetic oml I appreciate every single one of them
There are none in my town. Guess Iāll be the first
I went to my old, STAUNCHLY conservative town and saw āThere are a lot more of us here than most would think, past and presentā and I nearly cried
small town australia vibes
oceania gays are funny bitches
With whatās happening in Poland, itās super important for us queer folks to be able to find each other and take strength from the community. Iāve always loved queering the map and I thank whoever created it every day.
We are everywhere! š
I personally added a few of my favorite personal stories.
not be like āugh the Youthsā but i think kids nowadays have gotten Too Comfortable on the internet.
like i see these tweets on twitter like āhey im 14 and i just got kicked out pls rt so i can find somewhere to stay im in x state/cityā and like HOLY SHIT i cannot emphasize enough how incredibly dangerous this is. youāre broadcasting to EVERYONE that you are young, vulnerable, and desperate AND information on how to find you!!!! like i know you meant for that to be just for your friends on twitter but thatās a public tweet!!! ANYONE could see it!!! like I saw it and i have no idea who you are you are not in my circle and yet!!! so like WHO ELSE has seen it!!!
This girl on among us have me her number and turns out sheās 13. It was like 3am and she proceeded to tell me the name of her town, what school she went to, both of her parents jobs, how she did in class, what her home life is like, the first names of all of her friends, ect. All of this mostly unprompted. The smartest thing she did was ask to FaceTime me to make sure I āwasnāt a 40yo catfishā and she talked about the other kids that she had met on among us this way.
To any kids out there: I know that quarantine is stressful and weāre all depressed and lonely bu please please please donāt give out your information to strangers on the internet, and if you do there are dozens of safer options than just giving everything to everyone and just hoping for the best
My little sister is 14 and she gave out her information to the wrong person who shared it somewhere and she can now count on two hands the number of teens and young adults who have asked for nudes and favors and personal information. Itās really worsening her anxiety and anorexia so please Iām begging you donāt give out any of your information unless you explicitly trust the person youāre giving it to.
Stranger danger yall. And if youāre ever wondering what you could do to keep yourself safe, hereās a list.
1. Use an alias (donāt have to but doesnāt hurt, especially when you have a unique name)
2. NEVER give your last name! (E.g. if youāre Jessica, aint no way they gonna be able to find you without your last name. Donāt risk it)
3. NEVER give your address (things like country is still vague enough. But if you tell anyone your street or something super identifiable)
4. You donāt have to post photos of yourself! (You can if you want to but remember to be careful! Street names and addresses should not be visible in these photos!)
5. Block creeps. Anyone that ya getting bad vibes from, just block em. Donāt be scared about being āmeanā. Protect yourself.
This is all from the top of my head so if anyone wants to add go ahead. Letās help protect the younglings.
Not where I expected this to go.
I was wondering why the door was so dented. Holy guacamole.

Wait, waitā¦. Is that seriously it? How their clothes go?
that genuinely is it
yeah hey whats up bout to put some fucking giant sheets on my body
lets bring back sheetwares
also chlamys:
and exomis:
trust the ancients to make a fashion statement out of straight cloth and nothing but pins
Wrap Yourself In Blankets, Call It a Day
Wear blanket. Conquer world.
That last one looks dope
the chlamys is more of a dick-almost-out look
@petermorwood
Socks with sandals? Yup, completely accurate; archaeologists found evidence of it being done in Northern Britannia (shreds of fabric mixed up with the leatherwork of discarded caligae (military sandals). In addition, one of the Vindolanda Tablets (āpostcardsā written on thin wood) mentions that a care package sent by his family to a soldier serving on the Wall included socks, sandals and underpants.
Art suggests that the Ancient Greeks were less concerned about underpants, but then they werenāt standing guard on the damp and chilly edge of Empire. The āalmost-outā part of wearing a chlamys didnāt seem a great cause for concern, and though art is probably more idealised than reality, Greek culture certainly considered that If the gods gave someone a good body there was nothing wrong about showing it off. What WAS wrong was to dishonour the gift by letting it go to seed and gave extra emphasis to āreligiously hitting the gymā.
Since gym(nasium) comes from gymnos - Ī³Ļ Ī¼Ī½ĻĻ, ānakedā - and working-out was done in the buff, there was no hiding a lack of reps under baggy sweats.
To evade the stupid porn-not-art bots, Iām not posting full-frontal examples of what happened to a chlamys when the wearer moved - there are plenty if you Google, and this would be typical if completeā¦
ā¦but the ones Iāve included give a good idea of how much it covered or didnāt.
Figures wearing a chlamys often also wear boots and a broad-brimmed hat called a petasos, sometimes pushed back to give a halo effect. This seems to be visual shorthand for someone on a journey; Odysseus certainly qualifies.
Behind him on the right is Hermes; a hat, chlamys, short chiton (tunic), trademark winged heels / boots and caduceus snake-staff or heraldāās wand are his typical attributes-in-art. (Side note: the double-snake staff isnāt medical, despite appearing on US badges; an Asklepios medical rod has just one snake.)
Sometimes his Roman representations are a bit more, uh, cheeky.
The chlamys looks like something developed by a culture which wore towels at the shoulder rather than round the waist, then decidedĀ ābodies are nothing to be ashamed of and we have a hot climate, so why not outdoors as wellā¦ā
Oddly enough the Aztecs had a cape or mantle called a tilmĆ tli which was secured at one shoulder in almost exactly the same wayā¦
ā¦but thatās another postā¦
Dick out BUT wearing a hat.
Just want to add for the sake of interest (tho Im sure someone has said this in the notes by now) this is loomstate clothing! the reason its draped like this is because if you cut cloth youāre at risk of it fraying and then youāve wasted the hours and days of weaving it. We hadnāt developed cutting techniques yet that allowed for more fitted or better use of fabric - clothing evolves, and what you see with these loomstate garments is the ancestors of current clothing.Ā Its really honestly fascinating stuff - we start seeing some cut clothing with the romans in tunics and it just slowly evolves from there.Ā
