cassandra: disapproves
“Generically medieval”, by which we mean our peerage is French, our castles are German, our weapons are Italian, and everybody speaks English.
you can have religion in one of 2 flavors: “woo hoo aesthetic garnish” and “Sinister State Control in Bad Allegory for Problems in Modern Christianity”
Also, the latter is aesthetically French Catholic, theologically German Protestant, and has the institutional structure of the Church of Scientology.
not to mention that this land is simultaneously inhabited by thinly modified northern vikings (Nordic pre-medieval/9th century), travelling mongols (European medieval/13th century) and a wealthy italian merchant family with a house full of oil paintings (Southern European renaissance/15th century). the dance of the day is waltz (refined German 18th century country dance).
But it will only actually be called inaccurate if an adaptation chooses to add a Black person.
They should make a content label for ai posts like they do for mature content so I dont ever have to fucking look at it
how i unfucked my search engine
do your search engine results look like this? or worse?
this is wildly inefficient and frankly gives me a migraine just to look at. you deserve better than this. your searches deserve better than this.
good news! you don't have to live like this and unfucking your search engine takes less than 5 minutes, even less if you already have firefox.
here is my current solution for making the internet suck ass less. this is not an unmitigated endorsement of any of these companies or products/extensions, this is simply a list of what is currently, right now, working for me personally. do not give your loyalty to any particular (tech) company, none of them give a shit about you.
anyway.
1- if you are currently using chrome, switch to firefox. i'm sure there is some way to do these things using safari or some other non-chromium browser, but again, i'm just talking about my own personal setup. obligatory fuck mozilla for pretending to be your friend, they are also a dogshit company in bed with ai, but at least, for now, you can turn a bunch of their garbage off.
2- click the three lines in the top right of your firefox window. click on settings. click on search. change your default search engine to duckduckgo. obligatory fuck duckduckgo for being a dogshit company in bed with ai, but at least they let you turn that shit off for now.
3- search for literally anything in your duckduckgo search bar. i like 'sand' personally. click on the three lines in the upper right of your search results window (different from the three lines in firefox, i know, i'm sorry). click on 'ai features.' turn off duck.ai, set search assist to never, and set hide ai generated images to hide. you probably need to close and re-open your browser to see the changes.
4- finally, and you can also do this step immediately after installing firefox, these are the extensions that i personally use to further scrub my basic internet usage of stupid inefficient bullshit: ublock origin, GeminiNope, and aiBlock by amorehuman.net. i'm sure all of these extensions have their issues, but they work for me. i'm also sure you can add other extensions, but i literally just use these and here is what my search experience currently looks like:
you may not like it, but this is what peak search engine performance looks like. actually lots of people would rather skip the wikipedia summary or related searches too and that's great i'm pretty sure you can turn these off or get another extension to hide them, i just don't care.
i hope this helps someone have a marginally less terribly experience online. there's a bunch of other shit you can and probably should do to further take control of your internet experience, but this is what i see as bare minimum 'please god just make the internet useful again.'

Here is an article from NPR about it (May 22, 2026):
Carolina Milanesi, an independent technology analyst, said Google is trying to make its cash cow business — search — richer and more personalized, and it will make shopping easier. But there is a risk that users may have fewer choices about what to click. "Right now it's: I ask a question, I get a bunch of answers and I feel that I'm in control as to which answer I take, or if I'm looking for something, which product I'm going to end up buying. That is going to be less so going forward," she said. Milanesi envisions AI-enabled search and agents proposing products to consumers — perhaps even those they have requested — but with less clarity or choice around where it's coming from. "If you're going to say: 'I want a pair of Jordans, go find them,' you're not necessarily sure what steps have been taken and whether the AI has used a source or a store that was paid for and therefore came up in the search results," she said, "or if AI actually went and did their due diligence and picked the best for me as a customer."
And here's one from Time magazine (May 20, 2026):
While Google already has “AI Mode,” the company will now power the whole search bar through its new Gemini 3.5 Flash model. Instead of the classic list of blue links, Google Search will now also generate a custom page with an AI-generated summary of what you’re searching about, which will then trigger a conversation with AI Mode on the main page, allowing users to ask follow-up questions—similar to the kind of layout you would see when opening ChatGPT.
And a little more from Time's article on how this may affect the websites that we are trying to search for:
When Google first started implementing AI-assisted results, news publishers warned of “catastrophic” impacts on the industry, much of which relies on Google search to drive users to their websites. Last year, news websites saw significant traffic declines as chatbots increasingly replaced Google search as the primary way to find sites and ask questions. Small businesses also noted drops in traffic to their sites from Google, which has traditionally delivered customers. Lily Ray, vice president of SEO strategy & research at Amsive, a digital marketing agency, warned as early as last year that Google’s planned changes to search are “going to have a devastating impact on the Internet.” “It will severely cut into the main source of revenue for most publishers and it will disincentivize content creators who rely on organic search traffic, which is millions of websites, maybe more,” she told Technology Magazine.

Everyone have a nice day. Imagine something self indulgent for the ocs or the characters
btw i want to say that the entire tumblr community banding together is what got these changes reversed so i hope u all realise the power of a reblog and start reblogging posts instead of just liking them this is the reblog website so hit that button right now
as a denizen of this busted ass website for half my life now i do know how staff works and i’m going to lay out what they think will happen as someone who has witnessed this exact thing play out
People get very mad for a few days and then roll over and accept the change to the enclosure. This is what they are betting on. They have had meetings about this.
Getting around it: set an alarm. Get mad not just now, but in a few days, a week, two weeks. They are expecting people to sigh and get over this very odd edit to the site in a few days. Keep flooding them for more than just tonight. Be mad for the week, for the month. Leave a message every day.
like . I cant even blame them for being like “we’ll monitor for the week”. Remember when they changed the blue back in like 2015? This website acted like staff had gone into their house and shot their dog. We’re here because we’re allergic to change and therefore it’s hard to parse if people hate the change because it’s bad or because we go into thermonuclear meltdown over what color blue the background of the website is. Just continue to bug them beyond today and beyond this week.
Another "for later" step I'd recommend is, once the changes are out in the mobile app (NOT YET), leave a one star review on the app store and mention why. If the rating goes down significantly, that provides quantitative evidence that people do not want this change and it's a bad idea.
I'll do that as soon as it has been implemented. Let's be vocal and annoying so that they do not do this!

You know technology literacy is dying because I saw this meme with 76k likes
F11 the full screen button? You’re scared of the full screen button? F10?? It opens the menu bar???
Computers are so scary what if I accidentally hit F12 in a steam game and it takes a screenshot. What if I press shift + F12 while in word and accidentally save my document 😖
If you had to learn what the F keys on your computer do through me reblogging this post, then I'm glad you did. Computer literacy is not a skill that gets taught anymore, and it is absolutely one that needs to be taught in order to be learned. Don't ever feel bad for not knowing something, but ☝️ don't ever stop learning learning about your environment, the tools you use, and especially the people around you

Thank you for your service.
I think disability justice would be easier if abled people understood that being disabled is a mixture of all three of
I can’t do that without negative consequences
I can’t do that unless I have support for it
I can’t do that
and that trying to treat one of these as if it’s another one will get you nowhere.
can I add 4. I can't do that now even if I can at other times
