As a fully formed adult I now realize exactly how fucked "fend for yourself" was. Like you can't just set an 11 year old loose on a farm to do whatever when the farm chores are done and expect them to feed themselves in an ingredients household where you're not supposed to cook because that makes messes. Goddammit my mother was stupid. Still probably is, but I've had at least 6 or 7 years of no contact peace so I have no idea if that was a wake up call or not. Not my circus anymore.
