"this is DEFINITELY written by AI, I can tell because it uses the writing quirks that AI uses (because it was trained on real people who write with those quirks)"
c'mon dudes we have got to do better than this
I am big AI naysayer but I think making it into the latest of a series of unprovable accusations that you can use to harass anyone who annoys you slightly for any reason is literally the worst way to push back against its encroachment into our spaces
#the only AI quirk I believe is the use of the em dash (—)#just because it’s a pain to properly type out and real people really don’t use it that often
hey so. not meaning to pick on you for this, but:
there are various types of word processors or other text inputs which will automatically convert -- to —, meaning its difficulty in being typed out is irrelevant
there are a lot of people on tumblr, including in the notes of this thread, who have actively said that they use the emdash in their writing
the whole point of LLMs is that they train on real people's writing; they are not just randomly picking characters from the US-ASCII charset to include; AI would not generate text with emdashes if its training base did not also include writings by real people that used them
this is exactly the sort of thing I'm saying is a problem. people saying that they think they can tell that something is an "AI quirk" because "real people" don't use it, because their personal experience does not encompass its usage
[american voice] not typing like an american is a dead giveaway that you're not a real person

There’s nothing ominous about that sign. Clearly you people just don’t know anything about colour theory.

i’ve got another joke about proofs by induction but you won’t get it unless you got the last one
If you liked that joke, you’ll like my joke about proof by contrapositive. But if you don’t like my joke, you didn’t like the first joke either
If you like my joke about proof by cases then you like at least one of these 3 jokes.
You’ll like my joke about logical equivalence only if you liked the last joke, and vice versa of course
Ok so imagine you didn’t like my joke about proof by contradiction-
"obligatory fuck hp and terfs but" you really don't need to do that
"this hp fanwork was made so well I just have to bring it to the dash!" you really don't need to do that
once you start noticing how many of the Sexy Thicc Anime Babez hornyposted across the net with fat tits and fat asses overflowing out of their micro-bikinis still have 24" waists and rail-thin arms and pencil necks you never stop noticing it
if you're going to say a character is "thicc" and show off her assets, you damn well better make sure that, in the immortal words of sir mix-a-lot, the red beans and rice didn't miss her
the opposite of that "orc can't read ulysses" is an elf who smugly delivers a lecture misinterpreting the Very Hungry Caterpillar
this might be my favourite shot in all of fmab

my eye is twitching
Between this with Jumba and Pleakley I get to why some parts of the internet is freaking out because how lately Disney have been with letting us down with remakes but also I mean I'm very skeptical myself but also I kind of want to give it a try but then again I don't want to be disappointed
Don’t watch this movie, I’m begging. This is more than just complaining about how disney doesn’t need to do live action remakes. This movie in particular has already exploited the lands of Hawai‘i by filming there and will continue to do so by promoting tourism there, which is destroying the islands and harms locals and indigenous natives who are already getting pushed out of their homes by foreigners due to tourism and gentrification.
This movie also promotes whitewashing. They casted a lightskinned wasian woman to play Nani instead of an actual indigenous Hawaiian woman. This movie is promoting the erasure of Hawaiian people getting to tell stories about themselves, there’s not a single Hawaiian person behind the writing or directing for the production of this movie and its clear that unlike the original cartoon, it’s made with a clear lack of respect for its people.
Do not watch this movie.
I am still thinking of "ice cream guy" so it's time to talk about it. I saw a tweet about someone excited that they even included ice cream guy, and I am really glad it wasn't just me who caught the change they made, because that change, making 'ice cream guy' native, changes everything behind Lilo's motivations. I flipping love Lilo and Stitch. I was so happy that my kids enjoyed it when they saw it last year, and when my husband mentioned how much he loved Nani's lullaby, i told him about the history behind Aloha Oe, and how the movie is so good about being a movie that places Hawai'i as a real home, where real people live, and not just a backdrop to your vacation.
There's a scene cut for time from Lilo and Stitch that explicitly dealt with Lilo's experience being the backdrop to a bunch of tourists, and even though it was not in the full movie, the motive is still there. She took a picture of that white guy with his ice cream the same way people take pictures of her as "oh look honey it's a real native."
There's times when changing the race or gender or background of a character is a neutral thing. This was not a neutral act on Disney's part. This divorces Lilo's action from her motives. It leaves it hollow, not just in the way that all of these soulless live action remakes are, but in a way that removes her home from her background. What is she taking a picture of, if it's just some guy with a dropped ice cream? Why is she doing this? Why are you watching her do this? What's the point?
Do not watch this movie. Go watch the original. It's great! And if you missed that cut scene, watch that too.
That scene is really cute, it shows how Lilo and Stitch connect with their chaotic energy too.
LILO doesn’t get enough credit as a character. She’s not just a weird girl, everything she does has a specific purpose. Every weird thing she does in the first movie is designed to help her cope with problems she’s too young to handle on her own or even put into words.
Her parents’ accident was caused by bad weather, so she made friends with a fish that controls the weather and is extremely fastidious about him.
She has to deal with tourists treating her like scenery, so she photographs them like exotic animals.
She can’t stop her bullies from picking on her, so she tries voodoo to make them stop without resorting to violence.
And most importantly, she senses a kindred lost spirit in Stitch, and insists that absolutely no other pet will suffice, because caring for Stitch is like caring for herself. She takes on the role of caretaker, exactly the way her big sister does for her.
She might be the most smartly written character in any Disney movie, and it all happened because Disney had no direct hand in it.
This remake feels like an executive skinned the original and is wearing it around to try and lure in kids and their parents. It’s gross.

“Lilo and Stitch” 2002
Deleted Scene
Lilo plays a trick on the tourists.
IF YOU LIVED HERE YOU’D UNDERSTAND
I desperately need to understand
WHY
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY
Was this scene cut from the movie??!!
Fucking christ, do you know what this would have done? What this would have meant to SO MANY people?? The truth of this is devastating. And to think it almost found it’s way into a DISNEY film??
The inclusion of this scene alone would have made it the greatest animated feature the company ever produced. Easily. And if you think that’s hyperbolic clearly you don’t understand.
No, really, if anyone knows why this was cut PLEASE let me know.
oh man WHY WOULD they cut this, this is so great, holy MOLY
It was clearly something the crew was very reluctant to get rid of if it made it all the way to rough-clean (and in a few scenes clean!), fully inbetweened animation. That is like, thousands and thousands of dollars and weeks (months?!) of labour. Maybe a reluctant producer decided they would alienate their white middle-class American audiences by making them feel “too guilty” and pressed them to drop it? It’s unfortunate, it’s one of the most honest accounts of racism in a Disney movie (which is why it’s believable that someone got uncomfortable and made a case to get it chopped)
Designing entertainment by committee for maximum marketability is probably the most heartbreaking process in Hollywood.
I’ve been seeing this around my dash and think it deserves some more recognition!
