Commission scammer spotting guide
Tumblr has been plagued by art thief acccounts pretending to be artists and trying to scam you to commission them. Here's a list of things to watch out when a suspicious account is claiming to be a commission artist. Not to say that every "red flag" is an indication of fake artist, but if you see too many red flags at once, it's safe to assume the "artist" might be a scammer.
No digital footprint - Despite the quality of presented art and the supposed number of commissions they're getting, the account is fairly new and unknown, there is no trace of them ever existing before on tumblr or any other sites.
Varying styles and quality - Sometimes it's a full painted pieces, sometimes it's a sketchy drawing and sometimes it's a simple cellshaded chibi. There are artists who work in different styles but the things like quality of lines and consistency of shading don't usualy change overnight.
Bad quality uploads - Small and pixelated quality of uploaded artwork probably means they stole it from somewhere.
Eveything is a commission - Most artwork they upload is described as "commission from a client" to legitimize their commission scam. Also note the consistency of them calling their commissioners "clients" everytime. "Thanks for trusting me" is also a common phrase used by scammers.
No fandom tags - Even if the artwok is clearly a fanart, they never label the media or character, often claiming it's an oc.
Nameless OCs - When they claim the artwork depicts their own characters, you never learn their names or what they are from except "a story i'm writing" or sometihng like that.
Vague artistic descriptions - The scammers commonly use short artistic descriptions like "She represents balance warmth and cold, chaos and grace held together in one moment." instead of regular artist's comment about the art or character on it.
They are most likely to message you randomly whenever you post anything about wanting to commission an artist.
Of course things like AI claimed to be their own art or leftover signatures from original artists are a clear indication of art theft. If you are unsure you can always chek their images on google lens to see if there are any suspicious matches.
I uderstand this is not an exhausive guide and that yes, real artists are sometimes guilty of some of these too, we're just people. Just because an artist didn't tag their fanart or put a weird description doesn't automaticaly mean they are fake and trying to scam you. It's just general list of common red flags shared between confirmed scam accounts and might be useful when you're looking for commissions and want to verify if the artist is legit or a thief/scammer.
If you are interested to see what those scam accounts look like and how they are exposed, go give @ai-art-thieves a look.
honestly i think we kind of lost the plot on "therapy speak" as a bit of media criticism
i swear it used to refer to a story using a very formal, almost workplace safety-type tone of dialogue that's unintentionally jarring in context and feels like the writer is trying to make extra sure the characters come off as healthy and nice even though the language doesn't make sense contextually, now it seems to frequently refer to characters having any conversation about their feelings at all or even stories that are about therapy/are deliberately evoking that sort of verbage throughout as a stylistic choice. very odd.

horses cant scratch themselves but humans cant go fast. we support this legandary partnership
Wrong! Humans irrelevant and obsolete now

I don’t think people truly understand the scope of the damage Sony is about to do to physical media. They literally invented the compact disc. They are the reason why Blu-ray as a format won the HD wars over HD-DVD. They have gargantuan influence over manufacturing disc-based media. If Sony as a company stops making physical media for their next gen gaming consoles, this is going to affect movies and music as well. If you buy CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays, those are next on the chopping block.
I do want to point out that about 10 years ago, there was one manufacturer still pressing vinyl records left in the U.S. But since the resurgence of this format, multiple pressing facilities have opened, or reopened, and now vinyl is the most common form of physical music on the market. CDs and cassettes are also making a comeback.
Sony claims it’s using sales trends as a reason to phase out physical games. Corporations do actually care about making money. They follow these trends. I’m not saying panic buy all the physical media right now, but when it comes to owning things you can hold in your hand, you have to actually buy them.
Support places like:
iam8bit
Limited Run
Strictly Limited
Super Rare
Red Art Games
Just For Games
Hard Copy
1print
Gamefairy
And more
All of these places produce smaller batches of (typically) Indie titles but also some big name games too. 8bit has a contract with select retailers as well (BestBuy and Gamestop for sure, but potentially others) to keep physical media alive, but ordering directly from them will always be better.
We as consumers have blocked Sony - and Microsoft - from pulling bullshit like this before. Don't go quietly. Dog on 'em on social media and put your money where your mouth is to buy games and other media physically wherever you can.
i'd go a step further and say try to be less invested in what "big names" like sony and microsoft are doing now. all the games you love already came out. if you don't have them any more, pirate them! if you want hard copies, thrift them! fuck sony. pirate the new shit too, if you must, if you really must.
and if you really want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who get paid more to work less, put your money where your ass is and buy more indie games. if a game is pwyw, pay more than the minimum. support the folks who are actually driving innovation in games instead of the parasites that are profiting off rehashing the same shit over and over.

Man I miss free the nipple. Its getting warmer and we don’t even have free the nipple anymore
feminism has backslid so hard in recent years people don't even know what free the nipple means anymore
To clarify for those who don't know, "free the nipple" isn't about going braless, it's about going topless
No shirt, no bra, completely bare torso, just like cis men are allowed to
It's about desexualizing breasts and "female presenting nipples" and not being criminalized for our bodies if we want to go topless because it's a million damn degrees out. This was a popular growing movement that was still widely known a decade ago!
And the fact that not wearing a bra is so discouraged and stigmatized that people think the movement was about being able to go braless under your shirt in public rather than about being able to not wear a shirt at all says a lot about how far we've backslid in the past decade

Idea of kitties so mazing
Youre Little Friend With The Ears
unclean = adj. of or pertaining to uncles
Contemporary art haters will be like "i don't get it" and then not read the title or artist statement or the medium or the year or
How to "get it":
Ask yourself, how does this piece make you feel? (No wrong answers)
Look for an artist statement nearby. What does it say about the artist and their relationship to their work? What does the artist say that they are trying to convey with their art? What contextual clues can you pick up from what they say about their background, or what they omit?
Look at the title of the piece. What is the artist saying about their work by naming it that, either explicitly or implicitly?
Look at the medium. Is there anything about the piece that stands out to you, knowing what it's made of?
Look at the year it was made. What cultural events might have been happening around this time? Was this piece part of a particular art movement? What was the purpose of that art movement, and what was it trying to say?
Accept that sometimes, you still might not get it. This is perfectly okay.

Unironically I think the early to mid 20s age group in America has unbelievably bad consent boundaries on all levels and so much language to defend it but this makes me sound like elon musk if I say it however the commonality of someone who will be like “I had 47 panic attacks and it’s your fault” if you tell them no is insane
I rejected someone and got called “the scariest person I’ve ever met” with so much therapy speak interspersed like alright okay alright okay alright okay
“You just say whatever you’re thinking and I don’t know how to handle it” was verbatim part of this conversation. Also everyone hates to see an autistic bitch
When I was in this age bracket, there was a huge emphasis on improving consent culture via graceful rejection, and it's gone by the wayside. Which sucks.
Twice in my youth (once in high school and once in college) I was in situations where I was asking someone out and I could tell they were calculating in their heads the risks of rejecting me, and both times I said, out loud, "you can say no, I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't prepared for either answer." And then they said no. This wasn't some spark of special wisdom I had - I knew to do it because feminist conversations among my age group brought it up regularly. This isn't happening nearly enough anymore.
More recently, I was really glad when we got to "rejection sensitive dysphoria" in my IOP program and it was one of those symptoms where the therapists really emphasized how it affects others. Because it does.
Being someone who cannot handle rejection makes you much more likely to violate boundaries, and yes, that includes sexual ones. Yes, you, reader who has never hurt a fly. If you don't want to stumble backwards into sexually assaulting someone, fix your RSD meltdowns. If you keep them up it's only a matter of time. Because if you're nice enough to interact with, but are known to have RSD meltdowns, guess what happens when your friends and acquaintances need to reject you?
this is going to sound like such a little sibling ass take but i genuinely believe that being a little bit annoying is actually a greater sign of maturity and self awareness than being universally likeable and on good terms with everyone
if some people find me annoying and can't stand me because of how i think and act then that means i'm a fully realized human being with my own personality and opinions and free will and not just a reflective surface for other people's desires, which is in fact a good thing despite what people who want you to just be a reflection of their own opinions and desires will tell you, and why being considered "cringe" or whatever doesn't bother me at all
also it's really funny when you're confident enough in yourself to know that people not liking you isn't always a sign that you're the problem. like there's something undeniably hilarious about being aware your mere existence has the power to piss someone off and ruin their day and i recommend embracing it.
[ID: A screenshot of a tumblr post from user kermitlesbian. It reads: "hm. I think every time I feel an impulse to people please, to be unproblematic and likable and charming and feel the safety that comes with universal adoration, I need to remind myself that I want to be loved like a person, not like a dog."]
